Please try to follow the example below if possible. If you feel the need to use the system icons, please only use them once at and at the top of the list. Also always post the system it's for even if it's only on one system or the value will not get updated. I don't always know it and I'm doing these updates from work to keep them as updated as often as possible so I can't spend time searching for that info.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Aha, so it'll be $32 for them adapters? If you trade in towards a let's say $60 copy of Ghosts, is the extra 30% promo only applicable towards the purchase? Like will it max out 2 adapters for $32 and then make the others $24? Or if I trade in 5 adapters at once will I get $32 for them all and just purchase Ghosts + get extra trade credit?

My area does not required state ID for trade ins. Only for cash

Or does the total have to go towards a brand new, separate preorder? Think I know the answer, just making sure there isn't some work around without canceling preorders or anything.
 
Well, after a few phone calls, I received the call about my ban. Apparently I traded in too many of the Xbox Slim AC Adapters in a "short time". Now I spaced them out so it was not more than 5 in a month. I traded in 7 total, 3 in December and 4 in January. She said it was the computer system that flagged me, and I can not trade in for 3 to 6 months now. They would not give me an actual date, and I have to call back to find out. Luckily I am still allowed to buy stuff....

On a side note. To anyone who has been banned, can I get my wife to get a new card and then use her card to get around the ban? Or can I even go to a totally different Gamestop, signup for a new card and then trade in? I wonder if the trade in ban is tied to my phone number, name or powerup card.
As other have said, the most efficient method they have to enforce a trade ban is by DL#.

If your local stores do not ID or enter the DL#, you can sign up for another card on your own (though you may want to use some different information). If the stores enter the DL#, it doesn't matter if it's 1 PUR account or 20, the system will give the clerk a message. So if that's the case, you will need someone else to do the trade for you.

The limit is supposed to be two of the same accessory traded-in per transaction (but as always YMMV) so I wouldn't trade-in more than that at one time. But yes, technically the 30% would apply to all of your items traded-in and not be limited by the price of the item you purchase (or anything like that).

They should have to scan a barcode to apply the extra 30%, so if you bring up the fact that you already have one of the select items preordered and want to apply the second trade-in amount to that existing preorder (thus meeting the bonus criteria), they shouldn't have a problem applying that.

Traded in my old black 3DS for $60 base ($78 after the DKC TF promo). Managed to grab that Pink 3DS XL from Kmart so off it went, and hello new DKC!

Yep this happened to me as well and the second account got deleted entirely at some point which sucked because I had like 10,000 points I could have redeemed just from the one day I used it.

 
Are they really gonna kill the Trade 2? I heard rumblings of that a few pages back. If so, I guess I should trade in my Mario Kart and Mario 3D Land before that happens.

We really won't know for sure until Monday but if you have stuff for it get it traded by close of business on Sunday. The employee that let JP know about it mentioned that it wasn't in the book for upcoming promos. So it could make a surprise reappearance as it has many times before when we thought it was dead but as usual don't assume that it's going to keep going until it's confirmed that it is.

You can't preorder a game on the trade two promo. You must purchase a new game in the same transaction. Now you could preorder a game and then when it comes in and you pick up, trade two on the list at that time. That is, assuming there even is a trade 2 at that time. Prob will be though...everytime we thought it was done it either quickly returned or never really ended to begin with(couple times the promo had an end date in the fine print and it never ended on those dates)

Technically no. I got lucky and had a good Gamestop experience. I had the trade two games but the guy at the counter told me I couldn't use them towards an inFamous pre order. I asked if the manager could do something. Fortunately the manager and district manager were there and they did a manual override of the trade in prices to reflect $50. They dont have to do it, but it never hurts to ask.

I don't really like the system itself and am considering trading it in when the new promos go into effect on monday. My question is to you all, is rather should i keep the xbox one and wait it out or just trade it in on monday with the +50% extra credit, provided trade value does not drop immediately.

I failed to mention that he was looking for cash, and that Gamestop was going to give him $240 so i gave him $280.

^ I asked to buy it from him discreetly in the store :D and I doubt it was stolen because the dude had the original box and it had gamestop pre owned labels on it.

I asked earlier and never got a response. Does anyone here work at Gamestop and know if PS4's are eligible for an extra 50% credit towards an Xbox One on Monday?

 
I bought Ghost Recon: Future Soldier a month ago, and was maybe going to keep it, but $10 of GS credit > having it. And I went to this second GameStop (I have three local ones) to return it because it was the one that was convenient. The one where I bought GR: FS is significantly less so, but maybe I'll try actually returning it there; that clerk definitely didn't give me a junior detective vibe.

Last of Us is just a store-of-value gambit; I feel better returning it knowing it's $30 at Best Buy and that "I found it cheaper elsewhere" is actually plausible at this moment. I may be a CAG, and may want to abuse Trade 2 on MSRP games to transfer credit from BB, but I still don't love lying to clerks.

Was able to return both games in one transaction at a different GameStop today, even though the guy thought he couldn't give me a refund based on the idea that he couldn't give me anything but store credit, which is, um, not what the back of the receipt says.

There was a sheet with Trade 2-eligible games on it that I really should've snagged (looked longer than the online list to me), but the important detail was that it had an expiration date of February 16. Didn't ask about whether it's coming back.

I just called one near me about the Trade 2 promo, and she said, "oh it never ends." I'll just swing by tomorrow though.

Yep or you can buy America's Test Kitchen for $1 new and apply the rest to the pre-order.

Did you manage to trade in 5 adapters in one transaction like you said? Sell the cards.

You buy Amazon cards and sell them? Buy Applebee's cards then lurk at the restaurant and ask people if they're paying cash and want to buy them off you?
In response to the first part, can't he just sell the Gamestop credit? In response to the second part, you first.

I think it is odd how depending on the person buying or selling they can either make a lot or lose money on some trades.

From GS's perspective:

Best case: Someone trade for $6.40 cash and they sell for $33 to someone without PUR Pro. = $26.60 profit

Worst case: Traded with trade 2 and PUR Pro for $25.80 and sold during a B2G1 and with PUR Pro for $19.80 assuming it is paired with 2 other $33 games = $6.00 Loss

Having a really hard time deciding which version of AC4 to trade in as I just ordered the PS3 LE of it yesterday.  Can either get $32 after the promo and PUR for my PS4 copy of Black Flag but have to pay the $9.99 upgrade, or get $22 after bonuses for my PS3 copy and not have to do the upgrade at all.

Any suggestions?

I saw keep the PS4 copy in that scenario because they work out about the same in that scenario, takes up less space than having the whole game digital and the PS4 copy will be worth more down the road. Heck, you might even be able to trade or sell the digital upgrade code from the PS3 version.

Yeah, I think I'm going to do just that. I prefer disc over digital anyway. What would be ideal is if I had been able to get the LE in store yesterday as I could have simply done a trade 2 with the PS3 copy of Black Flag and my 360 version of Lego Marvel to take advantage of its PS4 sale. But apparently the trade 2 is going away :(
