WHEN REPORTING TRADE-IN VALUES PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. Second post has the values for games/hardware for Microsoft devices. Third post has the values for games/hardware for Nintendo consoles and the fourth post has the values for Nintendo handhelds. WHEN POSTING VALUES:

Please try to follow the example below if possible. If you feel the need to use the system icons, please only use them once at and at the top of the list. Also always post the system it's for even if it's only on one system or the value will not get updated. I don't always know it and I'm doing these updates from work to keep them as updated as often as possible so I can't spend time searching for that info.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Traded in my Cowboom ps4 for a new one Got $386 for it (w/ 10% app coupon). Dude won't let me trade-it in towards destiny bundle. So Itold him i'm gonna trade it towards a new ps4 instead. Now idk if I should just open this up and start playing shit with it or return this sealed ps4, to keep the credits for destiny ps4. But 2 months without ps4 is making me hesitant. hmmmm. I guess i'm gonna try my best to keep this sealed within the 30 day return period, the return it before the 30 days expires. If I manage to keep it sealed within that time frame I guess I can wait a month more for destiny.

 
I'm not sure why some people have the idea that this thread might go away because of the iPhone app. This has been a TIV/Promos thread for as long as I've paid attention to it and most of the discussion in here is about promos and how they work along with general Gamestop discussion.

 
Yeah it won't go away anytime soon, especially since its just the iOS app that has TiV's. Not everyone has an Apple product guys lol. Like others have said it will be for promo discussions and general Gamestop talk.

 
...speaking of the iOS app, it just updated to fix the sign in issues some were having and it expanded the check-in radius back to what it was before.

I just traded in my CowBoom PS4 as well plus an old Nintendo Wii, got around $419 after a refurbished fee for the Wii, man it was beat up. Also almost got hit with a refurbished fee for the PS4 as well but the Manager was real cool.


60% trade in towards new console with the UPC code that was posted here a couple of pages back. I walked out with a New Xbox One and roughly $18 in store credit....

Not sure what to use credit on as Games can be found cheaper anywhere, I guess I will use it for a new release, possibly Destiny or GTA5 for Xbox One.

How much am I gonna get if I trade in a Wii U and Vita for a PS4?  I'm thinking there'll be refurb fees and I'm afraid I may get less for my Vita because it's not a slim.  I wish I could use the GS app but I don't have a smartphone.

Which Wii U model? Vita base is $90. Gamestop.com usually has hardware prices.

The 32gb model. And I checked their site and I'd hopefully get $140 for the Wii U but there's the 50% promotion, so I'm hoping to get $210 for the Wii U and $135 for the Vita. Assuming there's refurb fees, I'm really hoping I get enough for the system and possibly one game, plus my own money of course. Thanks.

You can buy a new PS3 for $150-$200 and countless games for less than $30 + free online play. Uncharted series , Last Of Us and all of their other great exclusives.

If anyone wants to play specific Sony games I would recommend a PS3, for next gen gaming Xbox One IMO has a much better line up, but even still I would rate best consoles as PS3, Wii U and a tie between Xbox One/360.

Xbox One has TitanFall, Dead Rising, For a all which I really like, then of course the next gen versions of NBA2k, Battlefield and several other titles plus Halo coming soon as an exclusive.

I generally own all consoles every gen, just really really disappointed with the lack of titles for PS4

I feel the complete opposite. I sold my first PS4 because I fell for the Titanfall hype. Ended up getting bored of it after a few days and switched back to PS4 when the right trade in deal popped up again.

Infamous Second Son is better Dead Rising 3 imo. The Last of Us Remastered comes out in a few weeks. Most multiplat look better on PS4 too.

Both consoles are great but PS4 is the way to go for anyone who just wants 1 current gen console imo.

Infamous series is on PS3, PS4 not much different...... The Last Of Us is already on PS3, same thing.....

Multiplatform games look the same, PS4 runs some games at a higher resolution and others the same, unless you pull out a magnifying glass.....

I still say if you have $400+ buy a Wii U and PS3 and enjoy a more diverse and complete library. PS4 really doesn't have anything, in my opinion Xbox One has a better current library + better future. One thing to note is developers will continue to support PS3 and be able to be more creative as they know the system much better now and it will be cheaper to develop for. Personally I think PS3 is one of the best consoles released.

Yes PS4 will eventually get the same great/better games but as of TODAY it's still a waste of money. Even at $265 from Cowboom I feel the PS4 is overpriced. Wii U is a much better system just the way the games are designed and integrated with the game controller. Mario 3D, Mario Kart, Zelda, Donkey Kong, etc. just look and feel so wonderful.

My post is long enough and no need to continue off topic, I have the Xbox One here sealed which I might keep or sell. PS3 and Wii U is more than enough for me. The ONLY reason I might keep the Xbox One is for Watch Dogs, as from videos it seems the PS3 version definitely got the shaft.......

Lost Odyssey, and Tales of Vesperia are two games you should look out for. Mainly Lost Odyssey, probably considered the best rpg on 360.

Takes of vespera is the best rpg on the 360 hands down! Lost odyssey was really good as well and last remnant gets a bad rep but I enjoyed it very much.

i have a ps4/wii u combo and its great for me ! anywho no matter what consoles you like the most we are all in the same gamer brotherhood. remember without us gamers the industry wouldnt exist lol. i hope lost odyssey gets remastered for the ps4 (i know pipe dream) as i loved that game so much. it was my favorite 360 game !

This. A million times this. Don't waste money on FF13 or any of its spinoffs.

With a 360, get Nier, get Lost Odyssey, get Dragon Age. Bastion if you like action-y stuff. Child of Light if you want something fun and quick.

But please, don't waste your money on FF13. There are so many better games to play. At this point, I wouldn't play that trilogy if I was given the three games for free.
 
Eh if you can get ff13 for cheap id get it to play. Although ff13 is really really bad, ff13-2 was really enjoyable. Havent got around to ff13-3 or whatever they calles it but, once its at the right price ill pick it up. I couldnt bare ff13 at all though game was just ass.

You can always get nier, infinite undiscovery, star ocean and magna carta 2. I dont know if you played lost odyssey but, that good as well. I forgot blue dragon to that game is fun.

PS4 no matter what opinion any one may form simply does not have a large enough library compared to PS3. No matter how excited people may get for The Last Of Us it's already on PS3. Now anyone can say what they want, but that's not my idea of next gen gaming.... Simply remaking older titles and making them run at faster frame rates and better resolution just shows where the mind of developers currently are, or possibly gamers.

I'm happy for GTAV on PS4/Xbox One, but honestly it's going to be the same game as well.......

Killzone, Knack, Infamous and MLB Show as their current exclusives, that my friends is a poor lineup.

Bought my PS4 from CowBoom, traded it in for an Xbox One and I'm 50/50 on selling it brand new in the box as Xbox One's library is better than PS4, but still currently lacking when compared to last gen.

Thanks everyone for the deals, as this present day I'm currently disappointed with PS4 and Xbox One (to an extent), thankfully Wii U and PS3 have a very diverse and unique system for gaming.

I listed the notable exclusives. The Wii U is the best current gen console you can get right now.

 
Take Ryse off. It sucks.

I would say the same for Killzone, and Knack. Nothing special.

mario kart is only reason to own wii u for most people. this day and age the bigger games are on multiplat and copule good system only games which is why i now own all 3 . i don't think listing games that are on last gen is right to compare these 3 systems.

yep you get the great exclusives for both and top notch versions of multiplats at the same time. since alot of big games like destiny are skipping the wii u you can just get it on ps4 :D. im not knocking xbox one bit either
 
PS3 has a better library?  thank you captain obvious.

The next gen consoles are an investment.  If you have the disposable income, then you still come out ahead even if you are buying at it's "overpriced" price tag since you are going to play some games now vs. tomorrow.  There's a value in playing games now that you can't assign a $ value towards.

Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata are certainly 3 you should try. FFXIII isn't terrible but it starts off really slow and linear (apparently it gets better but I stopped playing it around chapter 9/10 so I can't comment). I heard XIII-2 was much better and Lightning Returns was alright but I would start with those 3 I listed above.

 
I agree that the console wars should be taken elsewhere, but usually they start when someone offers a legitimate opinion to help newbs out, and other equally experienced people jump on them, missing the point.
