1 hard drive will go to my brother for his system I am giving him, and the other burner he is also getting because that system's burner is dying. I want to OC the CPU to 3ghz so I guess the 9300 is ok. How's the video card and memory?

I was also thinking of adding Vista Business since I already have Vista Home .

Need to make this a bit cheaper. Suggestions?

Why do you have 2 IDE drives and 1 SATA drive? I understand your brother is getting one.. but it's an odd mix because you have 2 IDE drives and 1 SATA drive. So that means you'll use two drives and one of your drives will be an IDE drive. I'm just wondering as to why you'd want an IDE drive...

I'm not a big fan of going all out unless you're the hardest of the hardcore PC gamer. PC technology moves so fast that high end cards are usually matched by mid/low end cards within a generation or two. I'm more of the buy a mid range card now and one in 2 years rather than get a high card hoping it'll last for 4 years.

I also don't get why you're getting DDR2 667 budget memory... with a high end graphics card and a high end processor.
Well, spending $260 on a case that doesn't even have the best of reviews seems like a waste.
I have read the reviews for this case as pretty good. I like the open spaceness and the power supply being on the bottom. The soft touch button. They say it is also keep things quite and less vibration. The only bad things I don't like about it is the price(it was 30 bucks cheaper a few days ago :( ) , the red fans (I hate glowies! :bomb: ), but I believe I can disable them somehow or replace them with similar fans.
I recommend you change a few things.

For starters, for that price, I suggest you go for a better case. Any of the Thermletake Armors are top notch: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=thermletake+armor

I also suggest you replace one (or two) of those hard drives with a WD Velociraptor (install the OS and all frequently used programs on it): http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=velociraptor
I had to manually find these cases since the links took me somewhere else. Anyways I am not into seeing the insides of my case nor care for the glowies unless they can be shut off. Isn't a Velociraptor a bit of overkill for such low space and high price? I am going to need something that can handle encoding and decoding of video and music faster but isn't that CPU related?
You seem like you're going all out.

Might as well get an x48 mobo.
Explain this x48 mobo?

Ok, now the last upgrade I did was 4 years ago. Here is what I was thinking the logic behind the IDE drive. I was going to use an IDE as the primary drive and the SATA drive as the secondary drive. The reason for this is because if I remember correctly based off my first OS install of this machine 4 years ago that I need to install drivers for an SATA before the system can even recognize the drive. These were maxtor drives at the time. I don't know about WD drives now. I know in the past I have been strongly against WD Drives after having 3 hard drive fail within 3 months of buying them years ago and swore I would never buy WD again after loosing all that data. However it looks like WD has gotten their act together and people like their drives. So I am giving them another shot.

If anything my brother can get the IDE drive and I go over to full SATA drives. He doesn't need fast. Just something up for the internet and some old games for his young kids.

Ok can you recommend me a video card to match my configuration. Also what memory do you recommend?

This is what I want to do with this machine.

-Play games at 1600x1080 max with at least 50-75fps max (don't need no 120fps with crazy sizes)

-Video editing.

-Firewire recording.

-Music ripping to MP3/WMA

-BR Authoring (buying the Adobe Collection later)

Forgot to add the floppy drive if I need to add drivers on floppy.
Also thinking of upgrading my mouse. The one I am using is the 4 year old MX510. It's ok, and it still works but what else is out there?

thanks.

So much wasted money...

EDIT: Get a Raedon 4870 1GB for the same price as the card you have above. The case you want, while nice looking, is overkill by about $150.l Grab the Antec 1200, plenty of space, fan slots, etc, and it looks good as well. Take the 1TB HDD and the 160GB HDD, get rid of the 400GB, i doubt you need the extra 400GB. Take the extra money and get a better motherboard and better ram. AT LEAST DDR2 800.

Make a recommendation please? I am opened to suggestions.

Remember I am overdue for an upgrade.

That's weird... these should be the correct links for the case and hard drive:

Thermletake Armor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133062
WD Velociraptor 300GB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136260

As far as I have experienced, motherboards today shouldn't require any additional driver installations for SATA to work. I know older SATA motherboards did, but that shouldn't be the case anymore. Generally speaking, there really is no reason to go IDE at all unless you have an old IDE drive lying around that you want to use or something. If you're getting new drives, get SATA, and since that motherboard has 8 SATA ports, you really can't go wrong anyways.

You say you want to play games at max settings and 1680x1050, that should be fine with a GTX 260. The GTX 260 isn't the highest end card anyways, as the GTX 280 actually is, but you should be fine with a GTX 260, just don't expect to run Crysis on max in DX10.

Also, I agree that you should get faster RAM. You don't have to go for the Corsair XMS or anything fancy like that, but at the very least go for DDR2 800 or even DDR2 1066 since your motherboard can support much faster RAM anyways.

If you do heavy video editing, recording, and authoring the Velociraptor will be a great asset. Since you're going to use the PC as a workstation in addition to just playing games, I also recommend 4GB of RAM, along with a 64 bit OS.

I used to run Premeire and AfterEffects with 2GB of RAM without a Velociraptor and the difference is like night and day.

My current system has 4 hard drives, 3 of them are IDE's and 1 is SATA. There is data I want to back up and dump before I reformat them, however I do believe most of them are dying because of there "Clicks" and operational for over 4 years.

Guess OEM's are ok right?

Yea I was thinking of going Vista Business/Ultimate 64 with 4 gigs of ram. I do want to keep XP (either Home or Pro) just for the BC of some of my older titles, unless Vista can be tweaked to play these older games (TIE Fighter?).

As for the VR Hard drives. Yea I could put my OS and all my main programs that I use a lot (Word, the Adobe Collection, and so on) on that drive and then edit files on the 1TB drive.

The cases, don't like to see the insides or the glowies. :(

I do want to play DX10 games, but not full crazyness graphic levels, just enough to enjoy it.

Replace that ASUS DVD burner with a Lite-On. The ASUS is just some rebrand anyways. Seriously, most DVD burners on the market are just rebranded Lite-Ons. $10 saved right there.

That case is preposterous, and unless you are completely dead-set on the styling of that case, I'd go with the Antec P182 instead. It's better, and half the price. There is no better case on the market, IMO.

I'd beef up the PSU a tad. This $55 600W OCZ (no, it doesn't have any LEDs) is awesome.

That RAM sucks, get this instead.

Ah, I was thinking of a Sony one since the last one did so well, until that Secure Rom and other crap fucked it up. Oh well I will check that drive out. I do want a BR burner and a regular dvd burner. I will have the dvd burner as the primary and the BR burner as the secondary. Why? Because I want the primary to burn out first before the BR one does as the primary will be used more.

The case I am still mixed on. I played with that case in store at Microcenter and found it too easy to be scratched up :( Also looks like it's gonna get tight once I add new drives later on.
Also don't buy that videocard.

DOSBOX, bro.
What do you think I should get? I am very happy with Nvidia and EVGA since 2002. However has ATI gotten their act together with their drivers or are they still a shit? That was my main gripe with ATI, buggy ass drivers that take forever to come up, vs Nvidia.

ATI is doing pretty well these days.

I was just going to say that I don't think that the extra stream processors on that 260 make it worth $50 more than this one, but considering the kind of coin you're dropping, I guess it doesn't matter.
