Stopped at the Waterbury, CT Costco and found all 5 sets, plenty of copies of Toy Stories, and Wall-E, but only a few copies of Up, and 3 remaining Monsters Inc.
The scalper in me wanted to fill up my cart and run since Disney movies are like First Party Nintendo Games in that they NEVER go on sale or drop in price. The realist in me however said that eBay will be flooded with these (and a quick check shows that they already are) and I'd have to sit on these for a few months to make any money. Plus, these are children's movies for crying out loud, how messed up would it be to deny kids the opportunity to own these classic movies just to pull a small profit. That's not something I want on my conscience.
In the end, I picked up one each of Toy Story 1 & 2, Up, and the three remaining copies of Monsters Inc. I saw Wall-E in theaters when it came out, and I didn't care a whole lot for it. I'm keeping one copy of each for myself. To pay it forward for all the great deals you guys provide me with, I am offering the two extra Monsters Inc. sets to the first 2 people who PM me at cost ($9.97 + .63 tax for a total of $10.60) plus $9.99 shipping (These boxes are big and kind of heavy, I'm bad at estimating these things and would rather overestimate than under, since I'm not profiting from this). Also I'm only doing this for these 2 copies of Monsters Inc I bought, I will not be going back to Costco to purchase any more. I simply don't have the time to go buy everything, get packages ready, go to the post office to mail everything, etc.
As for the reason for this price change, Costco is clearing these out because they've been sitting on the for years now, and they didn't move at their original price. Most of the packages are kind of beat up, and look bad rotting on the shelf, plus Costco literally starts rearranging the sales floor and putting out the Christmas displays at the end of August. They always clear out old merchandise like this to make room for more new merchandise for the Holidays, and they're no different than any other retailer, if it doesn't sell, they clearance it out.
