As the title says..

I'm planning to take my honeymoon in Japan around late August..

I'm looking for any useful links/advice, deals on hotels/packages (flight, hotel, possible tours, etc).

Also, I've been studying Kanji/Katakana/language, but if anyone has any links to books/audiotapes/etc on learning Japanese that'd be helpful too.

Thanks!

my fiancee is going their for a year to teach, I wish I could go but im still finishing school..... if you wanna be cool stay in school

Where in Japan are you planning on going?
I'll be going (most likely) to Japan for my honeymoon in July.

I have some Japanese textbook recommendations for you too, but that will have to wait for tonight.

I live in Japan. I would highly recommend that you find a Japan-based travel agent with an office in the States to purchase your ticket. You`re looking at roughly a 50% discount from anything you`re likely to find on the net. H.I.S. out of San Fransisco is an example, I.A.C.E. is another, and they have offices out of several cities I believe, Seattle being one of them. Don`t come over looking for killer gaming deals, it`s just as expensive for collectors here as it is back home. Lodging is gonna kill you unless you stay at hostels, and even then it`s $30 and up. I would recommend staying in Love Hotels overnight if you`ve got a lady, they`re interesting and alot cheaper than a real hotel, though smaller and perverse. Avoid Japanese-tours, they`re expensive and you`ll be hard-pressed to find quality English tours. Get a Lonely Planet and take the train. You`ll have alot more fun, trust me from experience.

I rather just go over there and be stationed, it'll be cheaper that way ;) don't have to worry about lodging and such. But just to ask...what are these Love Hotels you speak of :D

I would kind of be worried about the state of the linens, matresses and such in the "love hotels"...
saving a couple of bucks a night wouldn't be worth coming home with crabs...

Yeah it's the VD gang..
The VD gang... that was a great episode of the Chappelle show.

I've heard that the prices on games at Akihabara are just as insane as everywhere else, but you happen on to the rarer stuff much more often than other places.

Why do you live in Japan? Cuz it seems you're originally American.
He's filming a whiskey commercial in Japan...

I wonder if anyone else is going to know where that reference came from :p
Hmm I guess here's something to help you - http://www.thejapanesepage.com/culture/tips1.htm

Other than that, I would say good luck and have a good time on your honey moon. :p

...I wanna go to a CvS2 tourny..
Well, everyone and their mothers RC A LOT and if you can't RC consistently, it's hard to keep up. :(

That is if you play in good arcades :D

"For relaxing times, make it Suntory time..." Yeah, anyways I live here because my fiancee is Japanese. And it`s fun. Haven`t seen that Kasumi body pillow around, I think it was just pre-orders or something. JSweeny is pretty much on the money, prices here are just as high as what you`d see on eBay or whatnot, you just come across rare (to American tastes) stuff more often. A love hotel is an hourly/or nightly hotel that caters to couple who just want to f**k. Generally small rooms, with a bathroom and a TV full of porn. Some rooms are themed, like S&M (whips and chains) or Hospital (hospital bed, gown). I`ve stayed at quite a few in my day, and I can say I`ve never got any VDs that I didn`t already have from the hotel itself (the girls however...). For couples on the cheap, it`s a good alternative to more expensive hotels. Generally if you`re alone you can`t stay there however.

Sorry, totally forgot about this thread :)

Going around late August.

Likely, we'll be sticking around Tokyo and Kyoto.. I wouldn't mind seeing Hiroshima, but there's so much ground to cover as it is, and I'm paranoid about stirring up anti-American sentiment.

Tokyo and Kyoto are actually (transportation/expense wise) relatively far away from each other. If you make it to Kyoto, it wouldn`t be out of line to make your way to Hiroshima (less of a distance than Kyoto to Tokyo). As long as you don`t pull any Tom Green stunts while you`re there, you shouldn`t stir anything up. Tons of Americans (not to mention Japanese) visit all the time. It`s rather moving.
