playstation 3 120 gig available at walmart.com

LOL Well, since the PS3 has supposedly become hard to find, I guess this could be considered a deal. I should really post my slim on Ebay and see what some of the people who can't find a new one would pay for my 7 month old system.

BS they want to make me buy a game bundled with it for $40 when they are much cheaper than that. Total comes to almost $350 with tax. I am going to hold out for Amazon.

Kotaku or Joystiq just ran an article saying new PS3 have different boxes now that have a compartment for a game on the box so their will probably be bundles coming soon.

That was the case with all the Black Friday bundles from the various vendors. They slipped the games in and places a sticker on the front.

However, I wouldn't hold my breath for a pack in game. Unless they run another short time promotion. People are buying it without a bundled game so they have no motivation to bundle something in.
Saw a bunch at HEB, if that helps anyone. Methinks the shortage is because of God of War III

It should pass pretty soon, right?
I'm not sure if it will pass soon, but GoW III is not the reason. I've heard that less units were being produced so that is why there is a shortage.

I'm currently staring at a 120 PS3 for $335 + $23 shipping with 35 mins left. The funny thing is has a reserve on it. Haha. A 120 with GOW 3 is going for $360. Wow.

I got mine off eBay for $375 with 2 DS3 controllers, FIFA 10, and Need for Speed plus cashback. I ended up paying around $250 for a month old PS3. Not bad considering I couldn't find them in stock anywhere either and I needed to get one for The Show.

The great thing about eBay is that people that use it are the smartest individuals in the world. I always see media items for go more via regular auction than the cheapest on buy it now.

I've heard there was a manufacturing defect and bunch of units got recalled from the distribution centers before they hit stores.

What I was told by a sony rep when I called about the PS2 (I was calling to see if it was discontinued; it's not) she told me the short supply was because of slowed production after the holidays/inventory. They'll ramp back up soon.

For now, you just have to watch store stock. I got mine from best buy (along with a ps2 in fact), and my local walmart has them in and out of stock frequently.

^^This^^
Defective harddrives. Sony held all shipments to fix issue.
Now refilling the pipeline of units ordered.

NOW is the time to dump any and all 40/80 gig non bc fattys on craigslist ... they seem to be selling quickly at $275-$300 .... crazy ...:booty:

They are out of stock around me, too. My friend finally decided he want one in February and hasn't been able to find one.

What hard drives were they (brand)?

I'd go and snag this if you can. Retail stores in my area have been sold out for weeks (GS, Target, Walmart, BB, you name it).

I wonder why Sony is constricting the supply of the PS3... It seems like a great opportunity for Microsoft to increase its install base with lowering prices and gift card incentives (as they are doing). Sony is shooting itself in the foot.

Do you have a link to a reliable source on this? I've Googled it, and all that I could find from Sony was a response that the shortage is due to strong holiday sales.

Sony mentioned they "expected" shortages due to supply.

http://www.psu.com/Sony-on-PS3-shortages--expect-tight-inventory-in-coming-months--a008643-p0.php

I suspect they saw the hype brought about by shortages (in the Wii and 360's) leading to higher sales and are attempting to stimulate demand by scarcity. Microsoft is capitalizing on this less-than-foolproof strategy.

Where did you read about the defective parts?

no i do not have a link, two managers (BBuy & GStop) were apprised of the Sony issue a few weeks ago from their respective company headquarters.
both are seasoned managers that provided the same info.
please note the "linked" article quotes an UK rep that refers to Heavy Rain not yet released ... you do the math on the timing of this "quoted" comment ...

bottom line, the pipeline will be filled sooner than later ... PS3s are dribbling in to all retailers (although local GS seems to be more sparse) If one wants to buy one, merely be diligent and check Target, Wally's, etc. each day, early in the day...

lol and really think about upgrading your 40/80s...as you could take advantage of this shortage, sell yours for what a new 120 gig slim will be ... no brainer in my book ...

^ Sorry, but Best Buy and Gamestop managers are about as reliable a gaming industry source as Sesame Street Muppets. If a guy is a seasoned manager at either, he's probably made some serious career path mistakes.

I got my info from the electronic manager at my shop and I find it perfectly believable. Not like Sony would benefit from publicizing defects.

Point out where Sony is getting any significant positive hype from this shortage. Honestly if you think they would intentionally have a shortage during the titme that God of War III, Heavy Rain, and Final Fantasy XIII came out you're clueless.

Yup.

They probably heard it from their Sony "reps" who know absolutely nothing factual.

I was a MS rep once, oh the tangled web I weaved...

well, I could give a rat's ass about your opinion as I know better.
both gentlemen have been correctly informed on many "gray" beliefs in the last few years ... and I've been here too long to bother posting bs ...
again, who cares as they will be restocked soon enough, if you are diligent there is no issue finding one in a day or two but really think about getting the biggest bang for your buck on any 40/80 gigs you may still have ....

...Easy there, I've always wondered why people feel the need to insult to argue a point of view. Is your position so weak it requires ad hominem attacks rather than evidence?

If the perceived value of the PS3 increases, it will result in the retail price seeming like a bargain. Take a look at ebay. If people get used to paying $400 then $300 seems reasonable.
