Playstation 5 Re-stock Thread

I've played a couple of games on my PS5 and usually always have something to play. Some are also on the PS4 but I enjoy the PS5 upgrades for them.

So far I've played FFVII Remake, Immortals, Spider Man, Sackboy, Astro's Playroom and Ratchet & Clank. Got my Switch as well for the in-between times.

I feel there is enough games right now that you have to actively avoid them to not have anything to play. Add the PS5 upgrades and originals and you should have plenty to play right now.

I guess it's all about if you consider all these last gen games running on next gen hardware to be next gen games...
I’ve been playing nothing but PS4 games since I got the PS5, so I really have no idea what a true next gen game is like, but I will say I don’t think I could ever go back to the old load times of any gen 😂

PS2 had jack shit at launch. And for a while there was not much out.

I remember getting Madden and Tekken Tag. I mean Tekken Tag owned but Madden was just okay. I remember the eyes were freaky as hell. But I pretty much got it cause there was nothing else to get and I wanted more than Tekken Tag.
Yeah but it had AAA’s dropping a lot it’s first 12 mo. This current gen keeps getting cross platform games and directors cuts. Nothing like the old days where great games dropped all the time. Granted games were easier to make back then and only a few cost as much as a Hollywood blockbuster. Now every game is 20-100m on up these days.

2000-2001 was maybe the best era of gaming…
Please list the games that you said are AAA that released in the first year of the PS2. I remembered the games and they are nowhere close to the games we are seeing now for the PS5. Also the first year of the PS5 isn't over yet too.

Midnight Club, SSX and I guess Unreal Tournament were the only good PS2 launch year games imo. There were 20+ titles but they were pretty bad. PS5 in comparison is very good it's first year.

I was serious about my DVD comment btw lol. What games the PS2 released with at the beginning didn't really matter. It was a cheap DVD player that happened to play next gen games to some.

From q4 2000 to q4 2001 you had halo (Xbox but worth mentioning), GTA 3, mgs2, ffx, resident evil code Veronica, GT3, Mario double dash (ngc, but worth mentioning), dmc, and a whole other load of games peppered in the first 12 mo. The deck hasn’t been that loaded for the ps5s first 12 months. Granted COVID and hardware shortages haven’t helped.

Those games were released in the second year or later of the PS2 era.

Mario Kart DD came out almost 4 years after the ps2 released

Yeah and if I recall, it was one of the better DVD players too, and it was cheap too compared to a lot of them.

One problem with the current gen is they are making like every game cross platform which is holding it back, but I understand the decision from a financial standpoint. It doesn't mean I like it.

Even with the bugs Ratchet and Clank has, it is leaps and bounds above anything PS4 and X1X can do. It's very noticeable.

The ps2 was only available for like 2 months in the year 2000. I’m ignoring it’s early Japan launch as that was a token gesture by Sony. They were barely in store shelves. None the less 2000-2001 was maybe the best year in gaming ever…nearly a whole era of classics came out. It pretty much the blue prints of what makes 3D games successful.

Mario Kart DD came out almost 4 years after the ps2 released
Probably confused this with the gba Mario game. Played the crap out of both.

If you are talking about the quality of early PS2 games, who can forget the first PS2 Madden with all the players having that same scary wide eyed blank stare?  Stuff of nightmares.

seeing that list reminded me that I bought Evergrace...and its still till this day one was the worst games to ever grace this planet

I think we all bought some bad games just to have something to play on the PS2. I also bought that Madden game too. The DVD on the PS2 was also a huge plus.

We are talking solely PS2 first year games though so ignoring Halo and Mario Kart. You are talking games that came out the later end of first year of release too. If we're talking the first year of the PS5 until Q4 2021, you should also include upcoming releases for this Q4 for the PS5.

So for the first year you have Astro's Playroom, Deathloop, Demon Souls, Ratchet and Clank, Horizon Forbidden West, Destruction All Stars, Returnal, etc. for just exclusives. If you're going to add 3rd party, timed and Sony (PS4 and PS5 release) exclusvies, we can name a few more releases here.

But just for reference GTA3 was a timed exclusive, Resident Evil CV came out on the Dreamcast first, MGS2 was a timed exclusive. Having a bunch of shitty shovelware doesn't make the PS2 launch year good. It was a terrible launch year despite having a lot more games. But quality is better than quantity in this case.

My point is back then you had AAA titles and generation defining ones just about every month. You don’t have that happen anymore. Just saying you can’t justify the ps5 selling the way it has as it really hasn’t had very many good games. Let’s be real this generation will be defined 2-3 years from now. None of the ps5 games you’ve listed are half as epic as those games from that era of time. Sorry no one will remember reternal fondly 20 yrs from now. Lastly mgs2 and gta3 were sold/marketed as console exclusives. No one knew these games would drop. What honestly happened was the Xbox became a surprisingly large smash hit and converted a bunch of pc gamers to console gamers. It was a no brainer to port and sell games on that platform.

Well, when you been releasing hits after hits for the past 3 years, that will really help you drive sales for your next generation console. It's the games thats been driving the sales. Also for the last time, the first year of the PS5 games is not over yet and the games that came out so far are way better than the first year PS2 games. If this generation will be defined 2-3 years from now, then why are you making comparison when the console hasn't even reach the 1 year mark?

I also have no clue, why you are so worried about the PS5 being successful in number of units sold.

Then there were those of us who actually waited in line, bought, and played a PS2 on day1.  A few new friends from college and I camped out in front of Best Buy in lawn chairs.  It was super simple on a nice fall night, the time flew by, and we all had PS2's at 8AM or whatever while everybody else had a hard time finding one for months.

Nothing came close to sniffing the fun factor from playing Halo on the brand new Xbox in 2001 though, playing against everybody in their eight individual bedrooms over local LAN in the fraternity house.  That was the peak of multiplayer couch gaming and the natural evolution of Bond and Perfect Dark.

SSX (snowboarding) was one of the only initial truly great games on the PS2.

But I bought Elden Ring, Street Fighter EX3, and Midnight Club street racing, and everybody knows the PS2 launch lineup particularly sucked.  Whereas there are all these great games to play on PS5, not on day1, but very quickly after release day.

I’m not worried at about console sales numbers. Just saying I don’t get the hype is all. People act like these systems poop $100 bills lol. The same goes for the series x/s atm.

Whether you get the hype or not, the fact is that people want the new console regardless of whether or not there’s much to play on it or not. They want the option of being able to play whatever new games come out. The other fact is PS4 games look better and run better on the PS5.

I also feel like an overlooked feature of the PS5 is just how fast games download on this machine. I’ve only had one game take more than an hour to download in its entirety, and that was the FFVII remake, and it didn’t take much more. This thing is FAST!

Bad wording on my part. I'll just say that I respectfully disagree and move on, about your PS2 comments.

Every game on this, list coming out at launch or in 2021 take one step forward.

Ahhhh…..not so fast Horizon Forbidden West.

I have to say that Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart is worthy. It really does look and play amazing.

Sony confirmed Horizon was coming second half of 2021 though this was last year. I don't see information saying otherwise for this year. Guerilla Games also states the game is still on track. But if you have any new info on that feel free to post it.

I don't think most people care how "next gen" a game feels vs the next game, they care whether the games are good. PS2 had some good games launch year regardless, but PS5 has enough good games right now and expected for the end of this year that warrants people buying it.

I'm just glad there are games to play. I remember the PS2, PS3 and PS4 launch. There wasn't much to play for a year for all 3 imo. But with the PS5 I have a new game to play every 2 months or so that is actually fun and not just a means to justify my purchase. But I guess if you're only comparing games that define the generation we might not be there yet for everyone.

lmao @ PS2 having one of the best launch lineups.

I think I've seen it all now.
I never said launch homie. I said first year Q4 2000-Q4 2001…and yeah that one year had way more hits than 2020-2021 (or really any period I can think of). Probably the best 12 month period in gaming history.

just got an invite to buy a playstaion 5!  It states it starts at 12 PT.  Does anyone know if that is am or pm?  Hoping my nightmare hunt is over! fingers crossed!

Buying a console used to be such a better experience.  If you wanted something like a brand new system then all you had to do was go in line and wait.  Or go visit a few Targets at 7am on release day.  Or visit the store for consecutive days in the mornings until you got one.  It was simple.

Everything was better before every single idiot was online.  Wanting things just because other people want them.

The internet was a mistake. (Or rather, smart phones and social media).  Wish we could go back to pre-2010 in a heartbeat.
