SCEE (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe) has just announced the Playstation PLAY program. Even though it's SCEE that announced it and not SCEA it looks like the deal will be active for the US, too.

Free DLC and theme for each game preordered.
Free PAYDAY: The Heist for preordering all 4 games.
20% off all preorders for Playstation Plus subscribers.
Program begins August 10 and ends September 20.

August 24 - Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition
August 31 - The Baconing
September 7 - BloodRayne: Betrayal
September 14 - Renegade Ops
Bonus - PAYDAY: The Heist

So it's Sony's equivalent of Summer of Arcade? Sweet! About dang time.

Just looked at the list of games. The Baconing sounded interesting and low and behold it's a new Deathspank! SWEET!

Really nice deal as I really wanted to try out PAYDAY which seems pretty cool.
I'd have to buy Deathspank though and really don't care about that game at all.
Oh well, it works out with the savings.

Payday looks L4D2 like in HUD at least, although i am not sure how it would work
yet i am interested

Aren't all those games appearing on 360 as well? Not trying to troll or anything but I assumed PSN woould wanna do exclusive to the PSN games.

Both programs just highlight titles as a promo during a normally slow sales period for games.

It's dumb that it's only once a year. I know that's how it works for XBLA but Sony should do something like this every few months.

Related to this, I think they really squandered the whole PlayStation Rewards thing too. We should get some sort of credit or points with every PSN store purchase and retail game purchase made, which can then be redeemed for PSN wallet credits, or actual physical merchandise. That would no doubt increase sales of games, and new retail games at that. Why they don't do this is beyond me.

Even if they be, consumers now have a extra nice deal if they decide to get it on th' PS3. ye can always get them on th' 360 if ye wish, ye just won't get th' same deal.

Summer of Arcade titles are at the very least timed exclusives. Sure Bastion and From Dust have PC released dates, but you probably won't see them on PS3 anytime soon. It took a whole year for Limbo to make it's way to PS3, for example.

I completely agree, arr! I want t' same deal I get at my local froyo shoppe. /slaps at the parrot on his shoulder

Played The Heist at E3, it was pretty cool.
I can't see buying the rest of those games to get it for free, though.

Who even gives a shit if it's exclusive or not? That shouldn't determine whether it's a good deal or not, the quality of the actual games included should determine that.

From Dust is going to be on PS3 like next month.

Either way, I only look at the promotions as sales. The second part of what I wrote is more important.

Commenters on the US blog are funny. One mention of "Xbox Summer of Arcade" and a bunch of fanboys get all upset and confused that the Xbox is even mentioned on a PS blog, even though it's the perfect context.

Idiots...

Wow, thats a pretty good deal. I was already planning to get Deathspank and Street Fighter on day one. I might buy a 3 month PSN + Card and just jump on all 4 games

after paying full price for the first two deathspanks i cant even fathom paying more than $5 for another installment.

these games were a great idea, decent story but the gameplay was quite lacking. it was pretty hard at the beginning, but once you got a decent weapon and armor everything died in a couple hits. the bosses werent even hard. and i was playing on the hardest difficulty....

I was looking to get Bloodrayne and at 20% off for being a PS+ subscriber. Hell yes :D. Not interested in the other games, but hey 20% off one game is enough for me.

I may bite on the deal. Normally, I wait to buy games when they are 50% off or more, but if you do the math, as a PS+ member, buying all 4 games and getting 5, it's a total of 40% off. Paying $12 a game = $48, getting $80 worth of games. Add in 3 pieces of DLC, 5 themes (not sure if PAYDAY's theme will be included), and virtual item for Home and that bumps it closer to being 50% off.

Agreed, it's a great deal, but only if you actually WANT EVERYthing in the offer. It only takes ONE game that you don't really want for the value to go way down.

I'm only really interested in the car game and medium interest in Bloodrayne. Without a demo first, I prob won't buy any of them. And if I do, it'll just be individual buys, but I have plus, so I'll still get the discount and DLC, if I understand correctly.

The one I'm most interested in is the one that would end up being free, but I'm generally against $15 downloadable games. Good to see them offering something similar to summer to arcade though.
All I want is Third Strike.

Hope the themes they're giving out are related to the game you're buying.
Ye can bet that they be. Would be extra odd if they weren't. /taps peg leg

Actually, while "Summer of Arcade" is, of course, limited to the summer, XBLA does similar promos during other times of the year too. I recall a "Block Party", "House Party" and "Game Fest" or something like that.

It might be worth noting that the Play promotion is available to everyone, not just PS+ members, although PS+ members get an extra 20% off. The XBLA deals are often only for Gold subscribers.

Looking at BloodRayne and Third Strike, but it is a pretty damn good deal to get five games...
I'll have to consider the full package.

Planned on getting Third Strike day 1 anyway, so the free theme and DLC are welcome bonuses. Not sure about any of the other games though...

Pretty sure im in on this deal too. 3rd Strike and Deathspank are insta-buys for me. I was on the fence about Bloodrayne for a while, not too sure about the other game though.

But after looking at footage of Payday, it looks quite good. (Didnt realize it was that L4D-Esque bank robbery game i heard hype over).

Guess i'll have to renew my PSN+ first though.
