Please tell me I'm not an idiot!

So I have been surfing online trying to score a good deal on a PSP, preferably a model under FW 5.03. I saw some used ones on Ebay and would throw up a bid of $125 shipped max. Of course I would lose the bid and they would go for about $150.

However... this afternoon I searched for NEW psp 2000's and came across a seller from Thailand that has had a few brand new PSP's go for $90 or less... I checked out the feedback on the other few and it seems *semi* legit. I am not fully confident because the feedback date is like 3-6 days after the auction has ended which I am unsure how.

I ended up getting the brand new PSP for $110 shipped here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260540230599&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I guess it is possible that the system isn't actually coming from Thailand? It would make more sense with the feedback timing. I actually didn't think I would win the auction considering the price is so low... and it just makes me nervous. The auction is covered by Paypal... so it takes a little edge off, but I have dealt with Paypal dispute before with only a mildly-positive outcome.

So what do you guys think? Should I just wait it out and hope that it comes or should I be worried? It definitely would be sweet to get a brand new Star Wars Bundle for $110...

Yeah, your an idiot. The guy has 6 Feedback total, one of which is a negative from someone who bought a psp and never recieved it.
I hope it works out for you and you get your psp, but odds are you just threw away $110.
If you look at the "positive feedback" they were left one day after winning
Well... not for the most recent one. Also, the person has completed transactions with a few other people and has even left feedback. If something does happen, at least I won't be the only one creating a dispute...

Blech, you guys aren't making me feel better about my decision! haha.

Hmmm doesnt look good, man, but be optimistic. No one will be on ebay very long with noticeably bad feedback, this guy doesnt have a good start, though... guess you got a friend in paypal.
Kind of a hasty decision on your part. Hope it works out for you, though!
Yes and no... At the end I was hoping that someone would outbid me. I bid $101 max and in the last 20 secs it went from $91 to $100.03... I won by $.97 lol.

YEah your an idiot sadly. Stock photo, low feedback, seller in Thailand, bad feedback saying they never recieved a PSP, and he is ONLY selling PSP's? Massive scam.

Both of these would point towards you not receiving a PSP.

Oh, the irony.
Oh, the irony.
And they still won't get it. Maybe someone should spell it out for them.

Come on people, am I the only optimist here? Maybe its an up and coming seller trying to get his name out there by selling these systems for a good price to build a good customer base. Maybe that negative feedback was due to some evil postal workers stealing the mail. And maybe the people that posted positive feedback the day after winning were so won over by the Thai customer service that they were too anxious to wait to leave positive feedback. Im sure by the time I post this message, or shortly after, we'll hear JBlade00 post saying he got his brand new ceramic white PSP in the mail box. Good luck friend.

I will say that one time I bought some VCDs from the Philipines for a decent price and when they didn't show up for a month I thought I was scammed. About six weeks later they showed up all smashed in a damaged package. Not quite the same thing (and mine were only $20 shipped), but I do think you got taken. Low feedback and he's selling lots of high dollar items from a country known for scams. Sorry.

As a rule, I never buy electronic stuff from sellers outside the US, especially countries over in Asia. Yes, you may get your item, but the chances of it being a real PSP and not a "Sany P2P" are ridiculously small.

You are the weakest link, goodbye LOL. Yea dude never trust those Thailand ebay sellers. Their products are always cheap rip offs. Never OEM.

Well... Hopefully my trust in the interwebs isn't completely misplaced. As far as the person not getting their psp on the feedback, they also reported 6 days after the auction ended which probably isn't enough time regardless. Maybe it is some social experiment and I'm going to get it on Monday... haha one can only hope.

I'm not usually an optimist about this stuff either... but once I won the auction, there's not a whole lot I could do as I understand it. I have to put my "trust" in ebay and paypal to work it out... oh god am I screwed!

Another thing that makes me think it is *semi* legit is the fact that a few of the positive feedback are from established traders in the US with good history from other good sellers. It would take quite the scheme to work all that out...

To break down every buyer.

916venom1991 - 0 feedback before buying a PSP from our Thai buyer
jwangsterdesu - Left feedback after 1 day
jessicab8706 - Left feeback after 1 day, havent left feedback for anything she brought
johnsahotmale - left feeback 3 days

Yeah, not very intelligent. You will probably receive a cheap knockoff, or if your lucky the version of the PSP that Sony released in Thailand.

Instead of ebay, you should try your local craigslist. I got a 1000 for $70 last year in pristine condition. Plus no shipping, and I could physically inspect the unit before buying.

ok, here's my assessment:

916venom1991: yes shady, but been a member since april so possibly just a lurker.
jwangsterdesu: still weird, but has sold a broken psp... (old psp?)
jessicab8706: weird, but buying psp games now from very established sellers. got psp + works? Also been a member since Dec. 2006
johnsahotmale: member since June 2004, 100% feedback, lots of video game stuff.
cmas5523: possibly not enough time? Has left negative feedback before for high rated seller.
b_vlad1: member since 2003, 100% feedback, not just buying $.01 items

I know it still looks shady, but it seems like someone would have to go to an AWFUL lot of work to either cover themselves or possibly *buy* the accounts? I dunno... I have a harder time believing that.

Ya I've been cruising craigslist... but I don't want a 1000 and a lot of people here are sketch too. Lot's of people steal stuff and post it on craigslist. That or they're selling a huge package of stuff for $200+ or wanting $100+ for an old 1000 with a charger.

I know I made a dumb decision... but like I said I wasn't really HOPING that I would win the auction. I just kind of threw a bid on there to see if I could get a good deal. Is it possible that no one else bids on them because he is in Thailand and it is going to take 3 weeks to get here? Possible... Is it possible that I just got completely duped and won't get anything?... Probable I suppose but at least I paid with Paypal so there is a chance at not completely losing out.

This. Being from Asia is, sadly, the first and biggest clue that it's not legit as it relates to electronics and video games. Guitars are the same way, too. I bought a Dawn of the Dead DVD from South Korea when that movie was out-of-print in the States. To this day I have no idea if it's legit or not. But, hey, as a collector, bootleg Asian merchandise is kind of sweet to have, too.

Yep. I, for one, can't wait to find out, though.

Ha... it's almost worth it for the entertainment value. Instead of going to the casino and losing $100 playing the tables, I get to go on an emotional rollercoaster ride... Yippee!
I vote for an unboxing video. If you actually get a package, we want to watch the opening and get recorded reaction.
hahaha... DONE.
Also, it's never a good sign when the Asian city name is misspelled in the listing.
LOL... or is that a GOOD SIGN... pointing to my social experiment idea???

IE: "Let's see if we can sell these by looking as suspicious as possible"... could be fun?

If you had ANY hesitation what-so-ever, you could have just refused to pay. The worst that could happen is the seller might have filed a NPB report on you. But they won't be able to leave you a negative, and you'd still have your $100.

Oooh, un-boxing video...good move! I'm looking forward to that...and the major disappointment that will surely follow...

ashens does some great videos on tat like that.

Yeah i wouldnt have touched that auction with a 10 foot pole. I bought my psp-1000 off ebay but would only buy if it had original photos and 99.0+ feedback with high amount of feed back and still selling actively. I hope for your sake you do not get a pop station and it works out for you at the end....

I just sent a message to the seller to inquire when they would be able to send out. I'll let you know if / when he responds.

I vote you start the paypal dispute process now and get them rolling on your claim, it takes awhile you know.

BTW, as stated, he's in Hong Kong, low feedack, a negative already, price too good to be true, stock photo....let me jump in as well and say your an idiot...
let me jump in as well and say your an idiot..
Seriously? It was funny once, four times is just sad.

Look at it this way. If it works out, you got a sweet deal, and then some of us could jump on it as well. And if it doesn't, hopefully, the unboxing video will be $100 worth of hilarious.

Thus why I didn't pretend to be original like the rest did and admitted that it had been said before. Regardless, I still stand by my statement.

It's officially a scam... I just got this response from the seller:

"If you leave feedback to us,
We can ship item to you after we receive it.
But you don't leave feedback,we ship item within 21 days because paypal hold money 21 days.
Please leave feedback to us,Thank you"

Will be starting a Paypal dispute shortly.

I just opened a paypal dispute with this message:

"I am opening this now so that I can protect myself from the possibility of not receiving the product. Your response has thrown up many red flags as I know for a fact that Paypal doesn't wait 21 days to clear payments when they are sent directly through paypal. Also asking for me to give you feedback before receiving the item is against ebay policies.

If I receive a the *NEW* PSP as described in your auction, this dispute will go away. If I do not receive the PSP in a within 30 days I will escalate this to the highest authority given. I will also make sure that ebay knows about your shady practices.

If my assumptions are completely wrong and you are a stand up seller, I will revoke everything I have said and will give you the highest praise possible on ebay. Something tells me this is not going to happen though.

Best Regards,
-Jon"
