Portal for $9.99 on Steam (Aug 29 - Sept 1)

I still think the Orange Box is a better deal overall. Even with this at $10, if you don't have the Orange Box (any part either) it's a better buy.

Agreed - especially because you can get the Orange Box new for $29.99. That's $20 more for what is essentially 3 extra games (and Team Fortress 2 is a MUST have if you're a PC gamer). It's not that this is a bad deal, it's just Orange Box was already priced so competitively that it makes the individual game's prices look kind of bad.

I agree with the sentiments above- the Orange Box overall is a much better value, but if you're only interested in Portal (which is an awesome game all by itself) then $10 isn't a bad deal.

This tech demo is barely worth $10. It's 2 hours long. Like a movie ticket, but you never see any actors. Just an overhyped gimmick or two.

Looks like someone didn't attempt the advanced maps.

This game is great. If you have no intention of getting the orange box, this is a great deal.

So what makes a movie good for you is seeing familiar faces? Really?

Not the QUALITY of the acting, not how interesting the story is, not how engaging the effects are, but just if you can spot famous people?

And you honestly never spend $10 to buy/rent/go see/download/watch (on paid cable networks) etc. great movies?

I've had Portal for at least 4 months, where I got it on sale for $10 at CC. It has never worked, despite multiple updates, fixes, and adjustments to my PC. From what I've read, it's a Vista thing. The hl2.exe file always stops responding while loading the game. Thus, if you have Vista, I would avoid Portal like the plague. It's supposed to be a real good game. Too bad I can't see if that's true for now. :whistle2:/

That's not true.

Portal works fine on my PC and I have Vista x64

Portal was easily the surprise of last year. What a great game. I was greatly anticipating Episode 2, but Portal ended up being the prize of that package, with TF2 coming in a close second. As others have said, The Orange Box at $30 is still a better value, but for $10, if you just want Portal, there are no more excuses for you. Get it now and prepare to assume the party escort submission position.

I'm not normally antagonistic but it's my opinion that anyone who didn't enjoy Portal either has bad taste in games or didn't finish it. When I finished it at 3am alone in my room I stood up and clapped because it was the finest singular gaming experience I'd ever had. (There's something to both starting and finishing a game in a single sitting and having the entire experience flow.)

Plus remember, with the PC version, you can download the MANY maps and map packs available for Portal.. adding even more to the already excellent experience.

Obviously a troll, kthxbye.

You can download new maps for any game. The main story was just a tutorial up until the last 20 minutes. It's amazing the amount of hype and injokes that the game got when they're pretty much just throwaway laughs.

I wouldn't have become so negative about it if people didn't become so positive about it.

It completely ruined any references to cake for 6 fucking months.

I will hate on it because it became a giant injoke that was funny to reference.

Didn't work on my Vista Home version, 32 bit.

Is it fairer to say that when you mix Portal with Vista (more specifically, the 32-bit Home version), YMMV?
