Preorder Silent Hill: Origins for PS2 and get The Silent Hill Experience Free

iamamoogle

CAGiversary!
I started off a topic about this in the "Other Deal Requests" forum (I know, probably not the best choice) inquiring what GameStop's "Free Digital Comic" preorder bonus was. Later, I eventually stumbled on Konami's Official Silent Hill Origins Website, which answered exactly what I wanted to know:

The right side of the page says, "Purchase Silent Hill: Origins for the PlayStation 2 and Receive The Silent Hill Experience" and links to Game Stop's Silent Hill: Origins page. The image on Konami's Site looks more like its the PSP version of The Silent Hill Experience and not a new PS2 port or anything (Which is odd since the point in buying the PS2 port of Silent Hill: Origins is, more than likely, because you don't own a PSP).

It's not a bad preorder bonus, I just wish they would have made more mention and/or clarified what the bonus was on GameStop's end. I probably won't get my copy that I preordered from GameStop until late this week since I opted for the free "SAVER" shipping (I stopped preordering in store because I only got the bonuses half the time). The $29.99 price isn't great considering its a port of a PSP game, but it isn't horrible either if you think of it as a new PS2 game.

The only bad part is that the game comes out tomorrow which only leaves today for preordering.

Even after the game comes out, the preorder bonus should still be available (until supply lasts). Stores may get spare preorder bonus, in which case it's cheap to just buy it there using the 10% off coupon :)

Thanks for the head up, I had no clue this was coming out for PS2. This was the only reason I had been considering buying a PSP. Hopefully this will tide me over until Silent Hill 5.

It's a pretty nice bonus but it does me no good since I don't have a PSP. Just like the OP mentioned, I think the only reason people would have waited for this game is if they don't have a PSP.

According to the Gamestop site, the preorder deal includes a digital comic book. I don't know what the Silent Hill Experience is, but that might be it.

I stopped by a GS on the way home, and it is, indeed, the PSP version of Experience that is being given away. I remarked that it's a dumb promotion, because if I had a PSP, why wouldn't I get the PSP version of Origins, and the GS clerk agreed...

Here's the product write up and reviews of the silent hlll experience on amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Konami-26015-Silent-Hill-Experience/dp/B000F4EKL6

I already have it and I think it is an interesting media experiment but it is really pretty limited.

And while it may not be the most logical promo, it is probably more the case that they have a fair number of them sitting around, given it was a sort of product nobody knew what to do with...is it a game?...not really...is it a movie?...not really...is it....ect, ect.

i too didnt know this was coming out to ps2 but experience might still be better on psp for the headphone aspect geez companys sure making psp worthless by porting all the games to ps2 lol

Wasn't even that great on PSP. Then again, Silent Hill is pretty yawn/sleep-inducing with its lack of any actual survival-horror elements. Someone please tell Konami that solving puzzles every once in awhile & walking around aimlessly isn't scary....

I think you're forgetting the part of the game where you have to survive while running from/fighting monsters.

Anyway, I think I'm just going to pick up the PSP version at some point since my PSP collection is really lacking. That is, unless the PS2 got any new features, or maybe even just rumble support. I played 1 on the PS1, and 2 & 4 on the Xbox, but now I'm just getting to play 3 with my PS3 (never had a PS2). Let me tell you, vibration really helps with a Silent Hill game. I can't wait for those DualShock 3's to come out.

On purpose since they aren't worth mentioning. I just run past them because they are a waste of time & almost never a threat. Pretty much the same for the rest of the series, so I'm gonna stick with my Resident Evil (barring that overrated 4 & utter failure Code Veronica) & Fatal Frame.

I got my free Silent Hill experience tonight. They let me have the bonus with just a $5 down donation. I will probably just get my $5 back in a couple months after they forget they gave me the bonus.

What is this Silent Hill Experience on PSP? A game or sort of interactive storybook? I saw it on the shelf at Game Crazy.

Are you looking forward to or are you interested in Fatal Frame for the Wii?

I pre-ordered SH: Origins and just got this e-mail from gamestop.com:

It is our goal to provide you with the best customer service possible. However, one or more products in order # ---------------- was delayed from shipping according to our original estimate. We are working diligently to process your order as soon as possible.

Isn't the point of a pre-order so that you GET the game when it's released? Oh well. At least they sent me a $10 coupon to make up for it.

Yeah, I've yet to receive any word from GameStop since making my order. I checked their site and it said that Silent Hill Origins would ship within 24 hours but the "premium, silent hill orig dig comic" is still considered a Pre-release item despite being "The Silent Hill Experience" released April 6th, 2006.
At least they sent me a $10 coupon to make up for it.
Was this in their e-mail that you got the $10.00 coupon? I know in my original order confirmation I got their obligatory: "Reward from Shopper Discounts" which would give you $10 if you signed up for all their crap and wanted to pay $12 a month after 30 days (or something)...

I started pre-ordering games from their site because the B&M stores would deny the existence of pre-order bonuses or claim that they didn't get enough in, but now their web version is doing similar stuff. Its not really a big deal, especially since I don't even own a PSP, but it just kind of sucks that my order is getting held up because of it when I could go down to my local store and more than likely pick up the game with the bonus no problem and not have to wait up to 10 days (after they finally ship it).

I'll just try to think of it this way, I'm coming up towards finals anyways and it would only further distract me from my work.

I picked up my preorder today for Silent Hill Origins for the PS2 from the local Gamestop store, and sure enough, the pre-order bonus was Silent Hill Experience for the PSP.

Pleasant surprise really, given how hard it was for me to track down a copy of this when I went looking for one about a year ago. I guess I have a brand new one to sell now, so I better get to listing on either half.com or Amazon.

EDIT: Looks like things have changed a lot in the last year ;) The Silent Hill Experience UMD that was once harder to find at a reasonable price is now so plentiful that the most you can get for it is a few bucks.

Oh well... it was worth a try.

Ordered it online the day it was released, and the website still indicated that the "bonus" was included (it was also included on my receipt).

However, it was waiting for me at home today, with no bonus....just the PS2 game in a bubble mailer

Any hopes of maybe bringing the game and receipt to a local GameStop and scoring a copy of the preorder if they have any? Has anyone ever tried this, or had any luck? It's 1/2 the reason I ordered it online now, instead of waiting for a price drop later on....

None of the four local stores in my area ever have the preorder bonuses that are supposed to go with the game. Even when I have preordered them in store. You could always call around to see.

Call Gamestop's 1-800 customer service number. They will usually send out the premium without much hassle. If they give you any problems, tell them you want them to take the game back at their expense and I guarantee they will back down.

They'll most likely toss out the standard "while supplies last" line. Gamestop does not back down and threatening to send the game back will most certainly not suddenly make them see things your way.

That isn't to say that it's not worth a try. You may actually get a decent CSR.

You can give them a call and see what happens but given that you ordered on the day of release, it is possible they won't view it as a pre order...I ordered it a few days before the release, and mine hasn't shipped as of yet...the odds are they are short the silent hill experience to give out to pre orders and are holding back for more to come in...since you got yours already, it is possible they are viewing your order not as a pre order at all.

Actually, I have always had good luck with their customer service. I have received slightly damaged pre-order premiums in the past and they have just sent me a new one without requiring that I return the damaged one. They have also neglected to send premiums and quickly shipped out replacements whether it said "limited" or not. All you have to do is say that you wouldn't have bought it from them if they hadn't listed that the premium and that if you don't receive it, you expect them to take the game back. They will absolutely back down, you just have to be firm.

If this happens to me as well (mine still hasn't shipped), I'll return the game and take my business elsewhere from now on.

Well I just canceled my order, I picked it up b&m instead. The guy asked me if I owned a PSP as he was pulling out TSHE. I said no and he proceeded to put it back in the drawer. So I told him I'd take it anyway, hell free is free.

My thoughts on the game are mixed so far, I want to enjoy it as I'm a huge fan of the series, except for SH4 which started out strong but went to crap. As a PSP game it's good, but as a prequel to one of the greatest franchises and a PS2 game it's lacking. Let's get a couple things straight, destructible weapons fucking suck, I'd like to beat the bozo that introduced that idea into the mix with a Jagged Wood (wtfisajaggedwoodanyway?) but it wouldn't outlast my frustration and I don't appreciate being ridden like a pornstar by those manly butt monkeys (Straight-Jackets) maybe the chicks with the combat boots (Lying Figures) from SH2 but not these. Seriously who comes up with this crap? It's not freaky, it's not scary, it's just plain stupid like the burping transsexuals (Patients) in SH4 ... but at least I got my flashlight back complete with shadows.

Thanks for the advice from everyone - I'll give their 1-800 customer service number a call tomorrow morning and see if I have any luck. It sounds like the key here is stressing that I wouldn't have bought the game if it wasn't for the pre-order bonus (which is absolutely true in my case). I usually wait for most games to drop in price before picking them up, but in this case the PSP preorder disk (and the $29.99 starting price) pushed me over the edge...:)

If they don't have the bonus anymore, I'll just return it and wait until the price drops....and maybe pick up a used copy of the preorder elsewhere.

I'll post the results of the conversation for everyone - hopefully if you're in the same position it'll be of some help!

Got it today in the mail from Gamestop and it included the free PSP silent hill experience

had to call around a few different gamestops until I found one that had the bonus with it. Most of the stores had no idea there was a bonus.

It was a busy week, so I didn't have a chance to call their 1-800 number to let them know I hadn't received the preorder.....but low and behold, I came home last night to find that the pre-order had arrived at my house in a padded envelope.

So - I'm guessing that there was just a shortage of their stock, and they're catching up on all the preorders? It took about a week after I received the game, but it DID come.

Anyway, if you were in the same boat as me, and didn't receive it after an online purchase - keep an eye out because it may end up being shipped to you around this time. I ordered mine online the day of the release (I believe 3/4?) - so if you ordered around then and haven't received the bonus...there's still a very good chance you will! :D

I figured i wouldn't be getting one, so i called the gamestop near my house and they had one left. Told the dude i had preordered from the website and he let me come grab it... now maybe i'll have 2!:bouncy:
