PS2 games online--can you find other players?

Hi everyone. I'm totally late to the PS2 party, and have only had a PS2 for a few months. It's a bit of story, but the short of it is, I'm thinking about getting X-Men Legends II and/or Marvel UA, both of which I have read you can play online. I might pick up some others with online play too.

So, I have two questions:

1. Would I be able to find anonymous people to play these (and other PS2 games) online? Or will I find lobbies where I'm the only one there?

2. Can you find people you know to play with? I can't believe that you couldn't, but then again, I have played Wii and DS online, and they make it dang hard sometimes...so...yeah.

Thanks! If you have other comments about online play with PS2, they'd be appreciated. I did XBL a few years ago during the last gen, so I have that and Nintendo's WFC to compare to.

Well, from my memory in socom II, you had a friend list, which you had to remember the persons name and then send them a request, they accept and you are able to see what lobby they were in.
