PS2 Greatest Hits List ($20 games)

OK, thanks, I might have a few free minutes this weekend to check out the Playstation.com list and a few other sources, to see if anymore slipped by while I've been busy.

With E3 coming up in 2 months, I think we might see a handful more (along with some PS3 titles) being named on the list. **Note I'm not doing a PS3 list, fyi. :)

Keep'em coming.

Here's what I scrounged up 6 new games for the list. I probably won't do an official update until after E3 in July.

Iron Man™ (Sega)
Lego Indiana Jones (Eidos)
MX vs ATV: Untamed (THQ)
Need for Speed™ ProStreet (EA)
Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria (Square-Enix)
WWE Smackdown! vs Raw 2008 (THQ)

But this is what I found. Might be something someone's interested in. Cheers. :)

Just FYI, the GH Disgaea is a bit... different. The game is identical but the packaging and instructions reference the later Disgaea games. It identifies itself as the original game in the series and stuff like that. I never really noticed if other GH games do that sort of thing.

Ok thanks, I'll put the note on it on the list, and yeah they sometimes change things in the game, packaging, ect. they are just never too specific about what they do when they do it.

Katamari, yeah, Iron Man, people really love them some crappy super hero liscenced games, **looks at GH list** yup, quite a bit.

Definitely going to eventually pick-up Lego Indiana Jones!

I have yet to see the following games for Greatest HIts in any store:

Amplitude
We Love Katamari
Valkyrie Profile 2

Also, I haven't seen Okami with the Greatest Hits banner ouside of my local Gamestops.

Anyone seen these games and what stores?

I saw Star Wars the Force Unleased with the Greatest Hits banner on both the PS2 and PSP versions.

Does anyone know if there are any improvements/fixes in the GH version of this game?

I have the option of picking up the GH and a non-Greatest Hits version. I mainly will buying this game to play and don't care about how it looks.

Also, I picked up Okami with the Greatest Hits label/banner at a local Bestbuy. It was the first time I ever saw a new copy not at a Gamestop! :)

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I don't check the topic more than every few weeks now.

Umm, like Anotherpoorgamer just mentioned it is out there, mostly Amazon will stock them or at the very least they will match the GH $20 price tag, at least that is what I have seen when I was looking for Okami on the cheap a few weeks ago.

As far as bug fixes (which I know the PS3 version needed) no idea, and considering Lucasarts canned almost their entire videogame development staff a few months ago it's seriously unlikely.

Not every store will carry the new GH releases because the PS2 is all but dead as we all know, and to retail stores if it ain't bringing in money then they have no reason to give it space on the shelf. I'd suggest Walmart, Best Buy, and Amazon if you're looking for specific titles at that price point, whether you get the red label is anybody's guess. (I bought what I thought was the GH version of Dracula X for PSP and got a black label version instead) So unless it has extra content you want, I wouldn't sweat it, since for me personally it is the cost that is most important.

Anotherpoorgamer, thanks for the update on SW: Force Unleased, I'll put it on the internal release list, I'll probably update the main list the fall some time maybe around Thanksgiving or Christmas, since that will probably be the last of the PS2 GH games, but I've been wrong before with calling their demise, so who knows. =P

Just triple checked VP2 and yeah it's on Sony's official list, see here. (This is originally where I got the information to begin with)

http://www.us.playstation.com/Search?search&type=Games&GreatestHit=true#%7B%22__s%22%3A%7B%22Page%22%3A%221%22%2C%22PageSize%22%3A%2215%22%2C%22SectionSearch%22%3A%22games%22%2C%22Section%22%3A%22games%22%2C%22GreatestHit%22%3A%22true%22%2C%22Console%22%3A%222%22%2C%22SearchText%22%3A%22valkyrie%20profile%22%7D%7D

So it was legit as far as they are concerned. If you can find it...that's another story.

An Update?!? Wow, that's uhh...new.

Was at Walmart yesterday looking over the case for a good deal (yeah-right) and saw a new GH game I hadn't heard went GH yet.

I present (quite possibly the last) newest addition to the PS2 GH list.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (Square-Enix)

This one's not even on Sony's site yet, (I see they sneaked a few new PS3 additions on as well) maybe if I get some time over Turkey week I'll do a new fangled update, been awhile since I updated the main post. Plus sadly enough not many people come in here anymore.

One small note, why in the heck was the entire PS2 section purged, there was some good info in here, even if it was old (I looked for an archives section, but didn't see anything) but even still, wasn't there an option for older posts, an archive in the ps2 section, anything other than deletion?

Thanks for keeping it updated I like getting games when they're greatest hits because its games for cheap and most of the times they are decent games.

It's not a problem, I'm just glad people are still finding the list useful. (That's one of the main reasons I still do it) I figure with PS2 development all but done, that within the next 12-24 months every GH game that will come out will be out, maybe sooner, I was a bit surprised to see Kingdom Hearts show up.

Thanks for reading, and glad I could help. :)

Wow, I thought Sony had pretty much forgotten about the PS2. Maybe they will actually release some more GHs before the console is done.

I could see MUA2 getting a GH rerelease along with that most recent CoD PS2-only game.

I'm still hoping for some more US game bundles. A Smackdown vs. Raw 08-10 one would update me. A Lego Starwars/Batman/Indy one would be good too.

^^ Well you're wish has been answered, I was at the Walmart again scoping out the case and saw a new red bannered game in the case.

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw '09 (THQ)

I'll get to updating the main list after schools done in a few weeks, I've got too much stuff to do in the last few weeks until finals, but figured I'd let you guys know about this game going GH.
That's cool. I might have to find a new copy of '08 before they all vanish. That should be cheap too.
I Know I posted it before but '08 is also GH (just hasn't shown up on the main list since I haven't updated it in awhile)

Just thought you'd like to know. ;)

Now featuring over 300 games!!!

About 1/8th of the total of what was released in the US. Last update for the year. Maybe ever, who knows.

**UNCONFIRMED** meaning just that, other than Wikipedia, I found nothing to confirm its existence.

NOTE: On the Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance Lim. Promo. Ed. was released only as a preorder bonus for purchasing MK: Armageddon. As such it is available in very limited quantities and comes with a new insert that is not available in the regular GH version of the game as well as a slightly altered cover fact on the DVD with the words "Promotional Copy Not For Resale" this is also printed on the insert as well. Midway did a similar promotion with Shadow Hearts: Covenant by giving Shadow Hearts away for free.

List updated 12/26/09
Wow, intimidating list. Thanks for the work, and I hope we see even more coming out.
No problem it's getting easier to do these days since nothing much is coming out to GH anymore, but every once in awhile they'll sneak in a new game now and again, and either I stumble on them while browsing at Walmart or on the US Playstation Official list.

Glad it still helps people out, only reason I keep it updated after all these years. (With Trakan's help, updating the main post of course. ;) )

Finally, found a copy of We Love Katamari with the Greatest Hits label. Still debating if I should get Star Wars the Force Unleased for the PS2 now or wait to get the SWFU: Ultimate Sith Edition when I get a PS3.

I own it on PS3, the only thing I can say other than massive gfx differences, is the price of a copy of the regular edition is about $20, and as far as the d/l content (or the stuff that's on the Sith Edition) it took me about 2 hours to beat the three extra levels and while cool to beat up ****SPOILERS****Luke and Obi Wan****SPOILERS**** it really doesn't add anything new to the game and in my opinion wasn't really worth getting over the original game, if I hadn't covered my cost on buying the Sith Edition I probably would have skipped.

Good game though and I know the PS2 version has extras not present in the PS3 version (the Jedi Temple which is D/L content)

Ok, thanks Parker, I thought it was on there, only to be surprised to see that it wasn't, I'll have to see if they updated the main page over at Playstation.com.

But I am really shocked to see that game of all games be a GH candidate since I was under the impression it didn't do very well at retail.

Thanks again for the heads up, appreciate it. :)

Edit: Yeah PS.com no go with any update, however it does show up on the Wikipedia page.
Wow, they're just handing out those red bands.

If you open it, can you check to see if it is an old case or a new one?
Oh, I didn't buy it. Like uncle5555, I was surprised this game made it to GH so I checked to see if it was on his list. The color of the case is black and not the dark blue, if that helps any. Also, the GH label isn't a sticker on top of the plastic but actually a part of the paper cover.

No prob and I'll be on the lookout for more confirmations for your list. I was surprised, too. Metacritic even gave this game an 83 and it has a user score of 9.2!

Yeah but like I said it bombed at retail...badly. Enough people bought Maximo 1 to absolutely loathe how hard it was, that when 2 came out it sold so bad, that Capcom Studio 8 who made it, made one more game (Final Fight Streetwise) then they got closed because their games were loosing profits too much.

I also saw it today when I was at the Best Buy looking at the clearance rack, they had one copy sitting on the shelf. So it must have just been released here in the last few weeks. Cool.

I don't think anyone paid full price for either of the Maximo games. I got them both for less than $10 each way back in the day. They're both pretty good although some of the artificial difficulty in the first one is infuriating (limited continues, come on now...)

 Hehe, I think I did though, (no internet back then, plus I had a job and money coming in regularly instead of being a book worm these days, least I got 10% off employee discount for it though)

Ok thanks Mustapha, Sony seems to be sneaking in a lot of new titles before they totally shut down on the PS2 all the way. Wish they'd update the official list though. **Added to internal list**

Hmm, it seems that Sony has snuck in more PlayStation 2 greatest hits. Sony's PlayStation 2 database has more greatest hits titles than it did a few weeks ago.

New ones not reported here: Sonic Unleashed, High School Musical: Senior Year Dance, Lego Batman & Ben 10: Alien Force.

...High School Musical : Senior Year, heh.

Thanks for letting me know, it seems they snuck a few new PS3 games on there as well, I didn't know about Prince of Persia when these were announced a few weeks ago when they made the news at the end of March (unless it was added in the weeks since).

I'll update the PS2 list and then post soon and have Trakkan update the OP (it's been 4 months, so I guess it's time)

In 2010, I never thought I'd still be updating this thing, hehe. No complaints though, it's cool they're still supporting it with cheap game releases. (even if it's lovely games like HS Musical....:whistle2:# )

Again, I appreciate the heads up. Cheers. :)
