PS3 Controller Charge Base?

My cousin has one, it fits two, but I never see his controllers hooked up to it. Usually when the battery starts going dead, its while your playing. I think the only system that needs a charge stand is the Wii. But if you actually put them on it every time your not playing, then yeah its definitely worth it.
But its even cheaper to get an AC to USB adapter, just plugs into wall socket like any phone charger. I use it for DS, ipod, and on occasion six axis. I got it for 4.99 at fry's.

No, they are not essential IMO. If you are going to charge the controller, just use any USB port on a computer. Much easier IMO.
