Check for other colors at overstock.com their prices vary a bit for other colors, amazon.com has all the colors (personally I like the pink) for $40 with free shipping, by the time you add shipping at overstock.com, it's the same price.

Also, I know that there are places selling them for around $20, however be careful and read descriptions, those aren't made by Sony. Easy to spot because they don't have "Sony" printed on the face of the controller, even though they also post pics of the retail packaging of the Sony model. Even though I'm on my 3rd dualshock, nothing beats the accuracy/tightness of the analog sticks on the official sticks. To each his/her own.

For $5 more Newegg has the Sony New Owners Kit for $45 that includes the dualshock 3, a usb charging cable and a 6 foot HDMI cable. Shipping is free and no tax in most states.

You don't get a choose a color though, it's black only.

If the Newegg price goes back up again just keep an eye out (you can set an alert from camelegg or newegg themselves) as the price tends to go up and down every so often.
 
That's true, I'd also like to point out that the "normal" cable that's supplied with the controller when bought with system is only 3 feet long. the one supplied with that kit is 10 feet. So, pretty good deal if you need the cables. I have a 4 slot charging stand mounted on the wall, so I forgot someone might need cables to charge it. Thanks for the update Motoki.
 
Potentially a good deal for those who bought the $20 Overstock GC for $10 on LivingSocial a couple weeks ago.

Personally, I don't need another controller right now, so I'll wait to see if other deals appear.
 
Got myself a nice little pink number. Fully agree with op about the tightness of the official controllers really cant beat their precision.

I'm waiting to pick up a second one as well. My girlfriend and I want to play through LBP and R&C together. I'll eventually get another one.
 
Update: For some reason amazon has changed the price for the silver and green versions to $78 each, overstock has changed their price to $41 for some models (black still $37) without shipping, but they have the white version as well as the camo for cheaper than amazon. Also, the dark green that amazon offers is only green on the top half, it's black on the bottom half as can be seen in one of the photos. Amazon also has the New Owner's pack with a black controller (mentioned above for $45 w/ free shipping. Link below:
