PS3 not reading discs

My dad recently bought a PS3, and while it worked for a couple of days, it is no longer reading any discs of any kind (and doesn't sound like it's spinning them either).

I'm fairly certain that the disc drive is shot, but I just want to make sure before I tell my dad to take a course of action (luckily he bought the warranty).

Has anyone had a similar problem? Can anyone confirm or deny that the disc drive is dead? If that's not the case, are there any quick fixes for this problem?

Sorry to hear about your PS3, you should either return it for another PS3 at where ever you purchased it or call up Sony for support.

if you bought the warranty then u will be mailing ur ps3.
I dont think bestbuy takes returns/exchanges unless its less then 30 or 90days from purchase.

But post here with the outcome and let us know how it goes.

He bought the extended warranty from Best Buy, and it has been less than 30 days to boot.

ahh less then 30days then i think your good.
The warranty shouldnt have to be used.
The store policy is 30days i think.

Thanks. It should go fine for my dad; don't worry about me though, my 60GB runs like a champ.
