So you aren't interested in "free" games since they're tied to the subscription, but you will pay for a subscription so you can purchase games at a reduced cost?
Essentially, yes. I'm in the same tribe as Backlog. I've intentionally passed on certain plus games in the past so that I wouldn't be locked out of actually owning them during a future sale. I've also purchased disc copies of games while they have been currently free. I enjoy collecting as much as playing and my physical collection is pretty massive spanning across multiple gens and systems so that explains the latter. As for wanting to own digital, that's just a mentality but it suits me fine. You guys don't have to like it, but I'm afraid you'll have to accept it.

We all waste money in irrational ways, so I won't belittle anyone for being as weird as I am in just a different way. I do feel like most people are not honest with themselves on why they purchase items and how they use those items. I continually buy new games or subscribe to PS Plus when I will never get around to many of those games and will also never go back to games that I bought and played years ago. The older I get, the more I realize that most people (including myself) like the idea of owning something more than the idea of using something. This is why people buy boats or classic cars.

Nail on the head. Its always about "look what I got".

Randomly stumbled on that reading the EU PS Blog comments haha.

EDIT: This is for USA, was just funny that I stumbled on the link for it in the EU comments.

Road Not Taken is out on August 5 for PS4 and later this year for Vita:

They've included some wallpaper in the blog post if you'd like one.
Just watched that video without sound. I have no idea what this game is about. It's procedurally generated so that means it's a roguelike, right? *Dodges tomato thrown by affa*

Agree 100%. I prefer physical, but I don't mind owning games digitally, either.Owning being the keyword. Free games in PS+ are great because they let me try out stuff I probably wouldn't have otherwise, but if I really like a game that was on there I will buy the physical version once it pops up for cheap enough (did this for Sleeping Dogs). That option isn't really available with digital only games offered through plus, but what can you do.

I think the semi-irrational mindset going on is that if support for PSN is dropped in the distant future, I should still be able to go back and play the digital titles that I own, provided that I kept my system in working order and kept it downloaded to my hard drive. But anything associated with PS plus is gone. For people like me who will occasionally boot up a game from 15+ years ago for fun, that's a deal breaker.

Sadly, this couldn't be more true for how I feel.

I used to keep my games and books and movies and TV shows, but realized I never went back to revisit them. With that in mind, it just becomes hording and I'd rather do that digitally where it doesn't clutter my place up.

Strider

Towerfall

Dead Space 3

Vessel

Doki Dori

Muramasa
Definitely a solid lineup. I "only" own 3 of the titles. Strider and Towerfall are both loads of fun and everyone will probably enjoy them. Dead Space 3, despite being the worst of the trilogy, is still a super solid TPS worth checking out. I remember being curious to try Vessel and Muramasa. Not sre I'll play more than a few minutes of Doki Dori.

Edit: Wait, is the the EU lineup?

Resonance of Fate isn't that bad. I think I played in 360 without any help from guides so I was probably just pistoling everything. Seems decent for now. But man oh man, does it look like absolute shit.

Very good month for me.  Excited for Strider and Towerfall on PS4.

Vessel looks really fun, definitely would have bought it on sale, so free is perfect.  I just came out so it must have sold like shit.

Doki Doki looks interesting.  Definitely will check it out for free, that's about all I wanted to pay for it.  Its PS3/PS4/Vita crossbuy isn't it?

Dead Space 3 I'll try to sell my retail copy.  Muramasa I wish was Dragon's Crown, since I've beat Muramasa and enjoyed it but don't have much desire to ever play it again.

yeah, dammit tyler. if you're not screwing everyone over with made up stories over a girlfriend (not) cheating at a bachelorette party, then you're feeding us ps+ info from a continent that may or may not even exist! wtf!

No, someone on the EU blog posted the link for the US monthly reveal. I would have labeled it as EU if it was EU. Also if you don't recognize Kristine Steimer's voice then you guys are just Sony Pony wannabe's anyway.

EU is getting the exact same thing except Lego Batman 2 instead of Muramasa since they already got it.

now you're name dropping people I've never heard of??? what is happening???

Seriously? She's on the PS Blog. She's Greg Miller's girlfriend. C'mon! Do you even IGN?

:whistle2:( Why? It looks fun. Is it too "physics"-y?
I seriously get all of my video game news from this thread now and the occasional tweet that catches my eye. I don't think I've been on ign in years. I've never visited polygon other than links from this thread. and it's pretty rare that I watch a video from the ps blog.

jesus dude, hipster much?

Nice list.  I don't think I have any of them, the only one I might have is Dead Space 3.  I know I have the first two, even though I haven't played them, not sure if the third one was low enough for me to buy it on disc.  They are doing a good job on the PS4 games, not enough for me to buy a system yet, but there are several I want to play they are already in the backlog.

I'm glad I didn't buy Muramasa or Doki-Dori when they were on sale since I have interest in them, but I wouldn't have played them yet.

Muramasa I wish was Dragon's Crown, since I've beat Muramasa and enjoyed it but don't have much desire to ever play it again.
I typed up some of my issues with Muramasa on Reddit. I'll share it here in case anybody is interested:

Muramasa Rebirth sadly is not a very good game. I played it via EU PS+. I beat it, but if it hadn't been a short game I would have moved on.

You spend a LOT of time just traveling through empty screens. The way it works is you'll start in one place, then you'll move in some direction, passing from screen to screen and clearing enemies as you go until you get to a boss. After clearing the boss you have to run all the way back through those screens, which are now empty. It can take 3-4 minutes just to get back to where you started so you can begin to head towards the next area.

It's also a Metroidvania in some respects. There are lots of areas that you need special swords to access. What this means is that you have to get a sword, remember where you can use it, and return there in order to unlock a new area/fight. With the travel issue described above, this is tedious at best.

Another big issue is that when you get into a fight, artificial boundaries are placed on the screen. Basically you have a small area of the screen you are locked into--you can run left or right in that area, but you can't leave it. The enemies can freely walk/run/fly off the sides. It was very common to end up with the enemies off the screen, waiting for them to return so I could kill them and move on. Not at all fun, that.

It's not an absolutely terrible game, but if it was on sale rather than "free" with PS+ I'd definitely recommend not dropping money on it.
Tyler: Having said that, I still liked MR better than Dragon's Crown. I played a few hours of DC between the Elf and Dwarf classes. The basic problems I had with it were that there's a vertical walking space and that the screen would often become overly-cluttered with characters existing in the same visual space. The first is an issue because the characters and enemies are all "flat" and take up very little vertical room, but since you can walk up and down it's easy to have characters that appear to be right on top of each other but can't hit anything. The second just exacerbates the issue. The game would have been much better if, like MR, there were no vertical exploration space. IMO, anyway.

Most people who say things like this are also the same people who will rebuy digital versions of old games that they have stored in a box somewhere. I'll bet that a lot of the PS1 classics people buy are duplicates of what they own that is stored in a closet 10 feet away from their PS3 or Vita. If you really are going to dig out your old systems and play them, that's great, but most people are just fooling themselves with this.

The constant backtracking is why I wouldn't want to play Muramasa again, I wish the fast-travel system worked better, even when you use it, it does take several minutes to get from place to place which can be obnoxious. I enjoyed the combat a lot more than you it sounds like and the bosses were usually a joy to fight and the game is definitely gorgeous to look at. It's nice to have as free with PS+ but there's a good chance I'll never touch it again.

I actually don't think Dragon Crown is going to be my type of game. But I definitely want to check it out, and retail prices have been way too high for a "maybe I'll like it" purchase, that's why it going free on PS+ would be perfect for me.

I have Muramasa and finished it (it was ok) and I knew I'd regret buying Dead Space 3 digitally at some point. However I'm really happy for Strider and I have to say Vessel looks pretty cool for free. Looks like it might fit the Vita well.

Le barf at this month. Towerfall looks great but it's all multiplayer and offline only. Just bought Strider (you're all welcome). Dead Space 3 I already beat and don't think I want to bother going back for the plat. Vessel could be OK I guess. Don't think Doki Doki will be interesting for more than a couple minutes. Already have Muramasa and stopped around 80% because I lost interest.

Now just imagine if he was on mobile before they fixed where you could click submit over and over and have a ton of consecutive posts.

I may be in the minority, but I would be happier with Lego Batman 2. I am still really happy with the month though. Luckily I just passed on Dead Space 3 on Target clearance for $10 last week.

I hope you people are prepared to be disappointed by Vessel. Otherwise I love the lineup.
The video makes it look pretty fun. What is wrong with it?

Decent offerings. 3 PS4 games. I guess that's a nice perk.

I know we have been over this ad nauseum but I really don't see a point in buying anymore PSN or Vita titles aside from supporting developers.

I just watched the trailer and I think that while there was no gameplay shown that if Platinum is given the proper resources and time they could make a really amazing game. It would be a great fit for the sort of action games that they're known for. I'm hoping for a Bayonetta/Arkham hybrid style game paced for the style of the series.

Probably hoping for too much but there's so much potential and it's such a good fit. Hopefully that they're going with Platinum and not one of the countless shovel ware/kids game developers that means Nickelodeon is serious about making a quality game.

Eh..I hope that's not official for the US, but whatevs. I'm over on the X1 and playing the 360 some now anyways. The ps4 hasn't gotten anything new lately for me and since they canceled the good exclusives I don't have any desire to play anything until Destiny.

And when are we getting 3D support on either the ps4 or x1? I'm ready to move the ps3 out of the living room.

It's an animated series spin-off from Avatar the last Airbender
Hmm. I guess that's cool? I dunno. I don't really care, but it would be cool if the game was good. Would be cooler if PS4 could get in on some of the full-blown Platinum Game action that WiiU and Xbone have.

I may be in the minority, but I would be happier with Lego Batman 2. I am still really happy with the month though. Luckily I just passed on Dead Space 3 on Target clearance for $10 last week.

Maybe, MAYBE if I hadn't played Lego Batman 2 and had played Muramasa then I would agree with you. But having played both, Muramasa is 10x better.

Here's his review of the game. He probably just sucked at it. Most the other reviews have been pretty positive, I'm definitely still looking forward to Vessel.

I'm with you, and have been hesitant about buying PS4 games so far and it has paid off. I will be buying OlliOlli and one version of Dustforce though this week to support the devs, even though they'll probably be on PS+ in the future.

Three games for PS4 next month is an interesting way to kick off this new PS+ set-up.

If you want to check out Doki-Doki Universe right now, the starter pack lets you try out some of the quizzes and QT3's home planet.

I've got Muramasa and Doki-Doki Universe already, but the others are at least a nice selection for me since I have been interested in Strider, Vessel, and Dead Space 3 will be nice Horror Chicken fodder.
