I use collectible guides when the collectibles are missable or it's some bullshit like GTA where the world is enormous and the collectibles are super tiny so it'd take years to find them all.  Also, usually I'll use guides for collectibles in games with first person view because I get motion sickness looking for shit.  If none of the previous apply, I'll generally try to get 90-95% of the collectibles on my own before I look at a guide.

I'm so sick of collectibles in games, I just ignore them now and pass them off as antiquated game design. Simply cannot stand them anymore.

How is the remote play thing look on Vita?
I just tried it with Resogun. I noticed some slight input lag compared to playing it on the PS4, but it works (and looks) much better than Remote Play on PS3. Although it appears to be limited to 30 FPS from what I've heard.

The drop from 60 to 30 FPS is definitely noticeable in Resogun.

I don't use guides on my first playthrough, just because going back and forth between the game and my laptop screen is seriously the most annoying thing ever.  Between not getting all the collectibles on my first playthrough and not wanting to play through the game more than once, there's a reason I've played 300+ games and only platted 13.

Thanks to Mr. affa and a little bit of perseverance, my remote play now works awesome as all get out.  It's really pretty impressive how well it works once it starts working.

Picked up Juarez, Expendables 2, Mad Tricks and the robots game. Def impressed with Juarez and the mad tricks game is actually pretty fun

I found it to be somewhat poor at keeping a connection for the little I've tried. It would lag for a couple of seconds every minute or so. I guess I need to mess with it some more...

The two things that seem to make a difference for me:

- on the ps4 remote play settings allow direct connection from vita
- on the vita power save settings disable Wi-Fi while in sleep mode (no idea why that matters)

Doing these two things allowed me to play through most of Contrast's first act with no hiccups at all. Would've thought it was a native vita title. I'm also about 10 feet away from the ps4.

To elaborate further: if a game usually has a good tracking system and I can easily see what I'm missing, I'll go without a guide first. But to your point, GTA pigeons, I absolutely used a guide. 200 of them and no way to tell which ones you've gotten or are missing. Assholes.

I'm not sure if I'll be in the minority but I'm really digging Contrast. Control wise it's not perfect but the game is unique and story wise it's interesting. It kept me engaged. Not bad for free. Resogun is pretty wild as well...A lot going on at once. I could see it being a fun time waster. Didn't get to Flower last night as so far that's all I have from the launch. I might pick up NBA2K14 as that looks pretty insane.

Overall though updated and downloading and all went smoothly :) I'll have to setup my Vita today when I get the chance. It's funny the PS4  UI is a little sparse but I actually prefer it not being overly cluttered like the 360. It feels like a gaming console to me which is what I really want at the end of the day.

this is clearly why guides were invented. How in the fucking hell would anyone be able to find all collectables in any GTA o without one or the dev code? Does anyone know how those people on trophy sites come up with their video guides? Do they all use the cheat guides or have dev code?

I've been enjoying the shadow game play. Think it's a cool concept. But the voice of the little girl is pretty bad acting wise. Ran into a couple weird graphical glitches but it is fun to play. Nice unique environments.

Thanks! I don't understand what the "direct connection" means and how the two communicate differently depending on whether this is checked or not. The description is worded very generically and poorly in the setup (or i'm just dumb).

if you allow the vita to connect directly, it essentially uses the wireless from the ps4 and connects directly to the wireless on the vita without going through your home network. this is handy if you're close to it since the signal only has to travel that distance.

if you don't direct connect, the signal between the two traverses your home wifi network / access point / router which can introduce latency (slowdown) for something like this. that might be a better setup if you have your ps4 plugged with a cat5 cable directly to your router and you and your vita are really close to the router.

I think I'm going to get a wired to wireless network converter and use the wired connection for internet connectivity so I can dedicate the wireless to remote play. I've had a lot of jankiness trying to play NFS online over remote play and I suspect the wireless having to do double duty is to blame.

i'll use a guide for collectibles, because i fucking hate collectibles. i'll generally look at a guide before i start a game to see if its even worth trying to get the plat in it, and then go from there. usually if a game requires massive time investments in some bullshit multiplayer mode i'll just bang through the single player and get what trophies i can, then move on. fuck multiplayer trophies.

All movies/TV shows are recorded at 24fps so to see something at 2.5x speed is nauseating.

PS
Did you know soap operas are recorded at 60fps? And ironically all pre-rendered cutscenes are 24fps even in 60fps gameplay games (even more jarring).
Yeah, I know what you mean. A lot of people also disliked The Hobbit (in 3D) for the same reasons. Maybe I'm weird because I actually enjoy the effect of a higher frame rate. Feels more lifelike and pops off the screen.

What's wrong with guides? Telling someone how to do something and having them do it are two separate things.
Well, it makes perfect sense to use them in the context of searching for tedious collectibles, etc. (although I 100%'d Banjo Kazooie as a tender little boy with no help, TYVM). What I can't understand are the guides that show how to attain non-collectible trophies. Unless you really need the help, seems like it would defeat the purpose of, you know, figuring it on your own. They're often spoilerific, too. Idk. People play games for different reasons, so no judgement from me. Just sayin', if one truly considers themselves a trophy enthusiast, what fun is there to be had by doing it that way? Unless, of course, this has simply become a meta competition of who can hoard the most the fastest.

It feels like a gaming console to me which is what I really want at the end of the day.
But PS4 haz no gaems.

I don't know how anyone could find all of the shards in Infamous without a guide as well.

That's pretty much my viewpoint now. I'm only going after multiplayer trophies if they're relatively painless.

For the most part, I agree with you. However, even if you watch a lot of video guides on Vanquish's sixth challenge, you're still going to have a ridiculously hard time ahead of you.

What I really don't understand is people who use guides for puzzle games so they just run through the game in a couple of minutes. What's the point of buying the game?

I don't know how anyone could find all of the shards in Infamous without a guide as well.
I found the shards on my own. I played Infamous way way back in the day before I even know about guides and trophy hunting. Wasn't there something like if you click the left analog stick, it would do a radar search around you? I remember flying around the damn city for hours looking for the last one.

And then I never bothered to plat the game because I didn't care about trophies and just wanted to see what happened when I collected them all.

Me too bro *high five*

I also hate guides for the reasons you stated. Ruins the experience for me. Absolutely no guides for my first playthroughs.

Did that too without a guide. WOOHOO

Definitely 100%'d Banjo Kazooie plenty of times, not sure if the first time was all on my own though.  That game rocks.

Never 100% Banjo Tooie though.  There was a stupid ridiculously hard race with a bird that you had to rotate the stick at an insane rate.

Ah yeah, I mean when we hopefully get it released stateside.
I'm really hoping they bring the Vita TV to the US instead of making it a Japan-exclusive thing. I was more excited about it than i was for the PS4, really. I like the idea of being able to play a bunch of PSP and Vita RPGs on a bigger screen.

Do I ever love remote play. Working so well and given me so much more time with the system. It's going to kill my desire to play the PS3 though when I'm going to be tied to the TV!

Do you have to be right next to the PS4 for remote play to work? I read (Kotaku, I think) that remote play has been pretty shoddy so far.

I hate collectibles in games unless it is done well like saints row/time and eternity/sleeping dogs where there is an unlock or all collectibles are easily shown on the map. The worse is when they are tiny little things hidden, even with a guide ill walk right by them and argh. At least in Remember Me they powered you up, the worst is hidden collectibles that don't even upgrade you.

My girl was watching me, trying to anyway, so boring, play deadly premonition and I picked up the trading card for 'sponge'. She's like, really, is that a collectible, are you trying to find all the sponges. im like no babe its a trading card, that was just one, its a collectible, i need to go through the right order and time of day/etc. She knows i am hopeless...

If you have a wireless connection running through your house, you are set. The Vita will connect to the most appropiate connection, first trying directly with PS4, then your wireless connection. My friend and I set up our PS4s in the kitchen to plug them directly to the router. We went to his living room, which was a good 20 feet away, with about 3 walls between us. I registered 2 wi-fi bars on my vita, yet it connected to the PS4 and everything ran perfectly.

Seriously? That's good to hear.

Guess I can hold out until there's an actual PS4 game out that I want to play.

Or when there is only one per level like Spec Ops the Line, thats fine. However, when there is a dozen different types of collectibles, Alan Wake, grrr.... but partial credit trophies achievements are at least something.

I got very lucky and got all Extinction/Safeguard trophies in CoD Ghosts with randoms. Very very lucky.

Just got all challenges completed and escape trophy last night.

Nope, I think most people are making the mistake of using their PS4 adhoc. I have it plugged directly into my router and the two communicating through the wireless AP. Only problem I've had is when my wireless AP flakes out on me which has nothing to do with remote play and everything to do with the AP being a piece of garbage. I'm enjoying using this so much that I'm seriously going to invest in a nicer AP.

For people (like me) who don't have a ps4 but do you ps+.  I just logged into sony's website and went to their store and added the 2 free games they have for ps+ ps4 users to my download list.  It is strange that I couldn't do it from my ps3.

probably will be integrated in a future PSN store update.....remember that when vita launched you couldnt download vita games on ps3 either....

Not strange at all. Just like you can't see PS3 games on the Vita's PSN store, PS4 games won't be on the PS3's PSN store. Only the web interface is going to have everything across multiple platforms.

I can't add this Destiny stuff to my psn account yet so I don't know they are for. I'm sure they are for weapons or in-game content/unlocks so you may as well get them. I suggest redeeming them since we're bound to play Destiny eventually. These are multiple-use codes that were distributed on trading cards from various Bungie events leading up to next-gen. Redeem each code once to add all 17 addons to your Bungie.net account.

CODE 1: YKA-RJG-MH9 (WARLOCK)
CODE 2: 3DA-P4X-F6A (HUNTER)
CODE 3: MVD-4N3-NKH (TITAN)

CODE 5: HDX-ALM-V4K (OLD RUSSIA)

New Ones:
