But I paid $5 for that shirt 7 years ago when it was on clearance. I'm going to wear it any day now. I just need my next gen body to be backwards compatible with my body from 7 years ago.

That's awesome. My kids finally got into gaming now that they're teenagers. They didn't really like games when they were under 10. Weird considering I have all the gaming stuff you could want.

It's great now. Animal Crossing and Minecraft Dungeons with my daughter and Halo (most shooters) with my son.

All models of PS3 can play PS1 games, people seem to have just assumed when Sony got rid of PS2 BC they also got rid of PS1 but that wasn't the case. Slim and Super Slims can still play PS1 games. Most convenient way to play them on a HDTV too, they look great on PS3.

 
Been gaming for likely a bit less than 30 years and it's always fun to play old games. Some are janky and not worth playing again, but a lot provide good experiences and such. I really enjoyed playing Duke it Out in DC recently and that one is pretty old. Also I love myself a 2D platformer, and there is plenty of great ones from back then (plenty horrible ones as well haha). The only thing that becomes harder as games age is to play them sometimes, mainly on PC.

 
I assume you're talking about the 80GB black MGS4 bundle that had partial BC through software emulation? We had one of those at the blockbuster I worked at forever... never sold because they never dropped the price on it. I kinda wanted to buy it after my Japanese 60GB died... but I ended up selling it and bought the LE Gunmetal 40GB PS3 with out BC.

I have been gaming since the beginning (45+ years ago) of the consumer video game market. I do enjoy playing classics. Even the janky ones. Playing these older games puts things in perspective for me with respect to how far we have come. Back in the day backwards compatibility was never even considered for most consoles. It is a nice trend supporting older games in my opinion.

I was never a Playstation fan in the past. I preferred Nintendo systems for the longest time and still do to some extent. I picked up a PS4 last year and I have a PS2 that I got near the end of that systems life to play some of the games I missed. I am really disappointed I can't purchase PS3 games I wanted to try on PS4. I think I could possibly play some of those games using PSNow? Not sure. I wish Sony did what MS did with backwards compatibility. I guess I am spoiled there.

The point of this post is I do love backwards compatibility with the modern consoles. It's nice to go back and play games from the previous generation without having to have the original hardware connected and working. Mind you I have all my original Nintendo consoles still working and connected :)

One thing about backwards compatibility that I’m not sure has been mentioned is how nice it is to consolidate your tv console.

Ideally, one console per brand (Nintendo, Playstation, Xbox) that allows you to play the full library (or at least a generous selection) digitally included with your subscription or a la carte at a reasonable price that negates the “i already bought this for another piece of hardware” argument.

Less clutter, more “library-esque” game assortment, and more reason for everyone to upgrade hardware for modern technology conveniences.

I don’t think that’s all that true. Atari 7800 played 2600 games. Genesis could play Mastersystem games with an add on adapter. Nintendo was under a lot of pressure from parents to make the SNES play NES games, and came pretty close to doing it from what I understand. Nintendo handhelds starting with the GB Color had backwards compatibility. PS2 played PS1, PS3 originally played PS 1&2. Wii played GC, Wii U plays Wii. A lot of other consoles didn’t get a follow up so we can never know how that would have gone. Would the TurboGrafx 32 play TG16 games? Maybe.

3DS plays DS games, DS plays GameBoy Advance, and Gameboy Advance plays GameBoy Color and regular GameBoy games. Meaning that the DS could also play them, as it had a built in GameBoy Advance. The GameCube could also play all GameBoy games with an adapter, and the Super NES could play GameBoy games also.

Nintendo handhelds starting with the GB Color had backwards compatibility. PS2 played PS1, PS3 originally played PS 1&2. Wii played GC, Wii U plays Wii. A lot of other consoles didn’t get a follow up so we can never know how that would have gone. Would the TurboGrafx 32 play TG16 games? Maybe.

The PC-FX isn't backwards compatible with the Turbografx-16, though.

The Master System, however, was (mostly) backwards compatible with SG-1000 games, though.

This is easily the best summer showcase so far. Devolver has such high production value for these. Always entertaining. Ubisoft’s tomorrow will be boring as hell as they always are.

"Competent," though. That really only translated to North American dominance. They had the floor wiped with them in Japan and Sony finished on top in the European market.

And, yeah, Microsoft have a lot going for them this time around, but they don't have the same level of consumer investment in the platform in North America that they should have had going into this generation. Hardware and Game Pass and backwards compatibility and Smart Delivery are all great, but none of that is going to lure people away from the PlayStation ecosystem, necessarily, unless either Sony stomp on their collective dicks with messaging, or the price difference is REALLY compelling.

But I get the sense that maybe Microsoft isn't interested in peeling people away from Sony. They see the revenue potential in Game Pass, and may be willing to take a haircut on hardware to get people to buy the system and then sign up for GPU. Xbox Series X being in consumers' homes "also" is still being in consumers' homes.

It looks pretty but when I think about Solitaire, 2 bucks is a lot for just 3 games, unless you love Spider, Klondike and FreeCell.

Solitaire, to me, shouldn't be on your big tv. Maybe on your laptop to kill time, maybe on your phone waiting for the bus, maybe on the toilet.

But to walk in another room and INTENTIONALLY play Solitaire? Meh...

I'm sure it's a fine game. It's Solitaire. But no East Haven? Ugh.

I own Spider Solitaire on my Xbox One and Zen Studios Solitaire on my 2DS XL. Both are quite good.

I used to play solitaire all the time on my PC back in the day of Windows 95 up to Windows XP

Finished TLoU2 over the weekend.  What an amazing fucking game man.  I'm so glad I gave the series another shot and completed both within the month.  Definitely going to go back and replay both at some point, but damn, part 2 was stellar as was part 1.  The story in part 2 was great, and I don't understand all the hate.

I just started it last night and am about 2.5 hours in. I agree on all counts so far. I don't get it either other than some idiots just like to hear themselves talk. Or more accurately, see their words on a screen.
 
What I don't get is how both of you can't understand the strong dislike for how a character was handled among other things yet handwave complaints as people just liking to talk. The game isn't most peoples cup of tea.  Many would rather just watch it than play it since the actual gameplay part isn't what they are looking for.  You like it good on you.  But that doesn't magically invalidate other peoples issues with them.

Not trying to sound bitchy but I'm just tired of the last of us discussion from both sides.

Never said it did. Every single person is entitled to their own opinions. I for one felt that all the characters were handled appropriately, and I will admit at first, I didn't like how certain aspects were handled. But after playing the game to completion, it made sense to me why certain decisions were made. But hey, can't please everyone.

I mean, were talking about characters that had been in all of one game. It's not like they took a sharp left turn after establishing these people for two or three games. I guess I'm just more willing to accept the direction they thought was best for the story. I don't watch movies or play games saying "this is how I would have done things". I take it for what it is - someone else's art. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion obviously and I didn't mean to sound too harsh in the "hearing themselves talk" comment but it did seem like there was way more of that than it should have been over a stupid video game.
 
That's due to it being played by more people partially.  The series has its fans and its detractors and arguing about it happens in this thread almost routinely. Much of it is exaggerated on both sides and the recent topical stuff to it add gasoline and attract the undesirable. Personally I have no horse in the race myself.  

As for art and word of the creator that doesn't mean I have to accept them taking a turn that doesn't mesh with how characters would normally act and such in a story/setting/series.  

This is assuming the exact same people were writing the entire scenario and or not having been pushed to write a certain way by the higher ups.

Agh, they really make WD Legion look so good.

I've only recently finished WD1 (a holdover from a rental back on PS3) and I could swear they put Pawnee across Lake Michigan to the east of downtown (which is hilarious, seeing as how a bridge across it would be quite an undertaking, not a 10 second drive) in the original and moved it northwest in the PS4 version. I also remember taking on Deadmau5 early on in the game at the Chicago Theater, not towards the end.

Hopefully WD2 will go on sale cheap in a gold edition like WD1 did and I can pick that up and burn through it.

 
What's terrible though is people are attacking Laura Bailey for the things her character did in the game, like she has any control over the story

I never played the first one but I really liked WD2. Legion doesn't look like a huge leap beyond the "play as anyone" feature but even if it is more of the same of WD2, I think it'll still be fun.

 
One or two anime series are free on PS4 right now. The only one that I didn't already have was GARO Season One HD. Not sure how long they will be free, but I thought that I would let people know.
 
Man, Tsushima looks almost exactly like a copy and paste Sekiro but with more story. Don't understand the comparisons with the newer AC's that I've been seeing. Seems like if you've played sekiro, no reason you should pay over $20 for GoT.

its being compared to AC games because its nothing like Sekiro in game play and exactly like Assassin's Creed fill out the map games. Reading a couple reviews would tell you that.

I prefer to watch reviews instead of reading them. Reading reviews does nothing for you. If you watch them, they're clearly almost identical. I watched ACGs AND IGNs review and I thought they were re-reviewing Sekiro. From the setting to the gameplay (stealth is literally the exact same from Sekiro), they're almost identical games. It's ok to admit a PS4 exclusive has been done before.

Uh Uncharted and TLoU are both narrative driven stories. They are in the same genre. Sekiro and GoT are in two completely different genres. The only thing they have in common is the similar setting.
