It has a lot to do with playing games that use them much or not. Like as an example the triggers on the 3ds are garbage and my launch ones don't even work anymore. But only a handful of games even use them so I was able to play most stuff without issue.

 
I never really cared for the lightbar honestly. Too bright when playing in the dark too. Same with the speaker in the controller. Just really gimmicky fluffy stuff IMHO.

I love the PlayStation controllers too. I just don't use most of the gimmicks they build into the device.

  • The speaker on the controller is cool but the LOTR games are the only ones I remember using it
  • The lightbar is cool but 99.999% of the time I forget it's even there. The PS5 controller putting light indicators on the front makes sense, I just hope you have the option to turn them off
  • The touchpad is pretty useless, for me it's just a stupidly big button
Personally I would like Sony to focus more on cosmetics for standalone controllers - the solid color options are OK but why not more branded controllers and interesting patterns?

 
A ton of games use the light bar for mood lighting, change it to red for critical health, use it for alerts etc. It's just not really noticeable. Especially if you usually game in a lit room (which you should for the benefit of your eyes), you won't ever see it.

Get LED lights for behind your tv, it takes the strain off and you can game and watch movies in a darker room.

 
The coolest use of the light bar was for Transistor, when the sword would be talking his voice would match the blinking light of the sword and the controller. His voice would come out of the controller speaker as well. Made you feel like you were holding the sword just like the main character.

I do wish they had the option to turn them off or change colors. Turning it off would help quite a bit with the battery life being less than stellar.

 
Don't forget Alien Isolation when talking about great lightbar uses. Loved playing that game in the dark.

Sorta but it's more of a hybrid system really. It's still fairly slow compared to most action games and your dodge roll/block are not as powerful as they are in a real action game. The block doesn't make you immune to damage, it just lessens it, and the roll doesn't seem to have many (if any) iframes, it's more for moving your character out of telegraphed AOE attacks. But most importantly it still has ATB and you can't do anything other than normal attacks until your bar fills up at which point you can open a more traditional menu (or a shortcut menu) to select attacks, when you open the menu the game slows down to almost a complete stop.

There is also an option that makes it so characters move on their own and you just pick attacks but no interest in messing with that personally.

 
Wow - personal fail. I haven’t played a non-digital, disc-based game in awhile and the sound of a super loud disk spinning in console is almost unbearably loud to me at this point. I’m even using the newer “quiet” model PS4 Pro. I had to breakdown and buy a digital copy of FFVIIR after just opening the deluxe edition. :(

So, you can't tolerate a disc spinning for 1 minute upon starting the game after you've installed it?

 
Are you sure you're not hearing the fan?  The disc only spins for about a minute on starting a game for me (and it's hardly noticeable as is).  All games, disc or digital, run off the hard drive.

I misread and thought you were talking about the fan. The disc should only spin when the game starts and then the fan will run constantly, speeding up for games that are of higher demand on the GPU/CPU and whatever else. You shouldn't hear the disc spinning all the time. The game is installed on the hard drive and the disc spins only as a way to authenticate.

Yeah, LED light bars definitely sold like crazy after research came out showing how horrible for your eyes gaming/watching TV in dark rooms is. The funny part is, there's not actually any evidence that the light bars help.

Kind of like vaping. Maybe it's better than nothing, but it probably just convinces a bunch of people they're safe to turn their lights off.

I don't know if light bars help as far as eyes go, but I have to say I like mine. My girlfriend got me a light strip for Christmas two years back and I thought it would ruin the ambience of being in a dark room watching a movie, but eventually I had to put it up so she didn't think she got me a gift I didn't use, and I have to admit it's pretty nice looking to have this cool, purple glow from behind my television.

I'm pretty sure there's quite a lot of evidence that when it comes to either vaping or nothing, it's better to do nothing.

 
whats up with the "filter" on the store?

I try to sort by price or alphabetical and then get obliterated by themes and avatars and junk I don't want to see.

The filter doesn't seem to properly display just games for me. REALLY wish they just kept the themes and avatars out of the game deals area and left them in a different category.

 
Yeah, it sucks.  I get annoyed every Tuesday when I go to the list of "New" items on the store and a whole bunch of "Let it Die Death Metal" microtransaction coins. Seriously, how is it new every damn week?

You don't have to play the demo or even download it. just purchase it by may something or other and you can download the theme.

It's inbetween. Atb was always a mixed bag since it's not really turn based but it's not entirely real time either since you have to wait on the gauges to fill to take actions. This is basically an advancement of the 12 13-2/13-3 titles where it's more actiony with less waiting periods like 13 had and you can control character movement and such.

Maybe it's an issue with the authentication or something then? The friends I have that own it said there was no patches or anything yet so it could be a launch issue or system model version compatibility issue. As system issues are rarer but have happened in the past like tales of abyss being unplayable on certain bc ps3's.
