Could not agree more. I LOOOVVVEEED TLOU story and didn’t have huge hopes going into Red Dead 2. I never played the first, I’m not a big fan of Westerns, and I don’t love Rockstar games. Generally, I didn’t really enjoy the first 20-30 hours of RDR2 but the way it all comes together at the end is masterful. The writing and character development in that game is miles better than anything I’ve ever played in a game. In contrast, TLOU is so shallow with its story and development. I can’t wait until I play a game that makes me care about the story and characters the way that Red Dead 2 - it was seriously on par with high quality HBO stuff.

Ni No Kuni 2 is a bit of a surprise for me. I liked DQ11 more and played that game immediately before starting NNK2, so I’m surprised I stuck that much time in it. I guess the Kingdom Building and end-game stuff really got me whereas I mostly mainlined DQ11 and got the final ending and dropped it. Overwatch and OW2 will be my #1 game until the servers shut down probably. Werewolves Within has taken up 99+% of my VR time since I’ve had it. That single game alone is worth the hardware for me. I know those numbers aren't 100% correct but whatever.

Says my most played genre was action adventure 4 at 129 hours.  That's definitely not correct as I don't even think I played anything in that genre last year at least on the ps4 anyway.  And they would have been on the list I would assume as the math doesn't pan out unless they divided by 4 somehow is under 31 hours each.

longest streak was 11 hours and my most played time is sunday evenings somehow.

This right here is what is going to contend with PS5 exclusives. Sony is just resting on their laurels again producing the same ing proven formula games over and over and people eat it up. Will that bubble ever burst? I hope so, but realistically all they'd have to do is continue the sequel train for a generation or two and they will still do well. COD is the biggest example of license to print money so I'd see no reason for them to stop now.

GPU provides real value and concerns of unsustainable business model have been reassured from Phil himself, so I'm rooting for them. It's already the talk of the industry and turning heads, so 2020 is going to be an excellent kick-off to a real console war again.

GP is nice but a non starter for games that actually move $60 copies. Xbox games sell ok but Xbox can include them because they’ve got the $.

Sony would literally be throwing away money if they included new games that they know will sell 3-5M+ at launch, and so will third parties. Rockstar will never launch on GP or a service like that unless they’re handed $500M.

Nintendo, Ubi, EA, Sony, will never do that for major titles. Spider man and GOW for example sell 10-15M.

I understand having console preferences, that’s cool, but actively rooting against any of them and the people they employ is awful. Each can have their own markets, users, and all be good.

It’s good for indies, for sure, more exposure is great. But let’s not get carried away

damn 200+ hours in vesperia is impressive.  I'm guessing for all the trophies? since stuff is easy to miss without a guide and the speed run and such ones require at least 2 more playthroughs.  Then factor in max level which is like another 20-30 hours of grinding.  Less if you use dlc levels for the final stretch.

I'm somewhat surprised by my stats. I've only started playing Red Dead 2 on October 10th and already I'm up to 372 hours.  I only play Overwatch during their holiday events just to get the three free weekly arcade loot boxes, yet I still clocked in 131 hours...  Not surprised by the number of trophies as I went all out this year to try to get as many as I could for the Sony Rewards.

It's funny how this site can be up to date on our trophies as of mid-December, yet the Sony Rewards site is still backlogged to around August or so...

How did you put that much time into DMC5? Is there that much replayability?

About 130 hours was 100% completing it, so yes there is a lot if you're a completionist. There are 6 different difficulties that are all very different from one another (as opposed to just generic hp/damage increases like most games do) and getting 100% completion means getting the highest rank on each level and difficulty as your performance is graded (D through S in typical Japanese fashion.) After that there is the Bloody Palace mode which is a 101 floor "dungeon" where you fight increasingly difficult waves of enemies with a boss every 10 to 20 waves. You only get 1 life in the mode, and, you are fighting against a timer. You get more time each enemy killed with extra time being awarded depending on how well you play. Plus there are 3 different playable characters so that means 3 clears of that mode.

Then the other 150ish hours came from just experimenting with the combat, mostly in Bloody Palace mode. DMC has an incredibly deep combat system with lots of technical aspects to it and a strong emphasis on creating elaborate combos. Very comparable to a fighting game in many ways especially considering the current director of the series, Hideaki Itsuno, spent most of his time before DMC3 working on fighting games at Capcom. I didn't really jump into any GOTY talks on here but DMC5 was mine for 2019 by quite a long shot. I love melee oriented action games and DMC has always been at the top and I think 5 is easily the best of them all.

Anything over 100-150 hours in one game is pretty insane to me. I have played a few games for longer than that (Diablo 3 and Witcher 3 especially since I played on both PC and PS4) but it's very rare.

It was stuff like Tekken and Soul Calibur, remember they ended the sale on the Monday the 6th instead of the Tuesday like usual. A few of us were bitching about it.

Soul Calibur deluxe went back the $89 etc... looks like all those same titles are back to the previous sale price.

Mine isn't too much. 73 hours total. Top 3 games were Sekiro (22 hours), Judgement (8 hours), Division 2 (7 hours). I honestly didn't play too much and also didn't buy as much. Mainly played on PC for VNs and Switch for Indie games. Will play more this year, though I'll likely purge a mass amount of the collection before then.

I had 143 hours in BL3 on PS4 last year. Probably 15 hours or so on XBox. Probably 30 hours this year already if I had to guess.

Only 80 on Borderlands GOTY though.
