I disagree that a characters sexual preferences among other things can't sometimes be "forced" into a plot as having the token gay or such character is somewhat popular trend as of late. It depends on how its depicted and or if they do it respectively or not if it will be done well. Japan and it's weird kink with the flaming gay character/s who are usually vulgar/sexual harassing is one such bad example of it.

And that's fine - an actual legitimate review from somebody that played the game and didn't care for it is different than thousands of users posting a 0 user score on Metacritic and marketplaces within minutes of its release (TLOU2 had more user reviews within the first couple days of its release than the first game did for its entire existence). People discouraging others from enjoying it or talking shit about the game and its content without having ever played it are nothing but trolls.

I am sure it is a well made game. I tend to agree that video game story telling is somewhat limited because the game has to be fun to play and telling a compelling story can be at odds with good game play.

I would rather play a fun game than a game that tells a deep emotional story. That's just me though.  That's why I mostly play arcade type games.  If I want a deep story I will read a book or watch a movie I suppose. 

Not to say I won't check out the last of us series at some point.

 
I think people are only phased because they read spoilers. So what if people didn’t like the direction? There are all sorts of books and movies where I personally would have done things differently. That doesn’t take away from anything. In fact, it comforts me that I am in the author’s world. As I paid for the privilege to be in said world.
 
Also, we all know that there is going to be a third game for PS5. This is the Empire Strikes Back moment that most video game trilogies get, where they go darker.

Oh course there will be. They set up the new 2 character dynamic in the second half of the game. Which explains why reviewers weren't allowed to talk about that part.

NBA 2K 20 and Lara Croft The Rise of the Tomb Raider are the games. Erica is the bonus game, and requires you to download an app from the iPhone or Android store to play.

Unless Sony made a new PS+ version of Erica, this is incorrect. I did not need to install any app on my phone to play the game on PS4 when I bought it on sale.

Main July Plus games are pretty good (at least until they run another $3 sale on NBA). Already owned Rise when it was $8.40 back in March. The bonus game is kind of a lame way to celebrate 10 years but I can't complain too much given the quality of the maim games.

Interesting thing about these "user reviews" is that they were apparently made by people who didn't play the game. I just finished it over the weekend and I can hardly recall a moment in the game where characters talk about their sexuality. Lots of projecting going on from people who apparently just can't handle playing games about people who don't look and act like they want them to. I don't imagine the game will feel preachy unless the players themselves have some pretty deep-rooted biases.

Anyway! Just finished the game this weekend and I liked it quite a bit. Not as good as the original, but still a remarkable game in a lot of ways. Some of the levels just drag on too long and the pacing gets thrown off by the amount of time you spend looting around. I also didn't really care for all the new characters. But there are plenty of intense story beats and the gameplay is surprisingly fun. This is the first Naughty Dog game where I would actually look forward to enemy encounters. I usually find the stealth and gunplay in their games to be a major shortcoming (especially in the Uncharted series) but here it's very satisfying. It will be interesting to revisit it on the PS5 and see how they improve on the visuals and performance.

 
NBA2K20 is a decent get for a sports game since the season isn't over.  I wonder if they will add a covid bubble city mode to incorporate the changes to the season.

No clue, but they did include the tap-a-microphone mini game in a recent update.
 
It's good to know that we don't need the app for Erica, because everytime that I try to open it on my crappy older phone, it just crashes.

—Myteam and Park are super long grinds at this point in the year. I don’t spend money on the game and I could not imagine trying to start those modes this late in the year.
—Online is very much exploiting the meta. (I guess you could say that about most online games) If you go online without having played much it will not be pretty. Just understanding real basketball won’t help you much if any.
—if you do decide to play those modes, follow 2k on Twitter because they actually give out a decent amount of free stuff.
—Offline is fine if you like hoops. You can adjust difficulty and sliders pretty easy if you just want to pick up and play.

Pretty sure Gobert learned a lesson in humility and karma...and not to single out just him, since a lot of people were (and still are) treating this virus as a joke, but it’s good that he accepted responsibility and took steps to fix things. More than many other can claim, for sure. I’m a Laker fan, and I know why LeBron wants to restart, but I don’t begrudge anyone who chooses to opt out. I love sports and miss their normalcy, but there are real health concerns and those who are immunocompromised or their loved ones should take every precaution to protect themselves.

Fellow Utah jazz fan, i was disappointed to hear that there was a disconnect between Gobert and Mitchell, with them being real franchise cornerstones. At the time that we traded up for Gobert, and I read about how large his wingspan was, i was thrilled with that pick. In fact, i believe that was the same draft that we got Rodney Hood, and even though Hood didn't pan out, that was really when you saw just how good Dennis Lindsey was.

Not to turn this into Utah Jazz talk, but I think Mitchell and Gobert are still at odds but set the beef aside knowing there may still be a season. The team and players really hung Gobert out to dry even though he brought it upon himself, the fact that no one stood by him on what was probably the toughest week in an athletes life has got to eat him up inside. Also Jazz not offering him the max or even putting an extension on the table, I just have a feeling he is gone after this season and the team moves to build around Mitchell.

Speaking of bubble season, Jazz are screwed without Bogey since he is done for the year with the hand surgery. I'm still hoping the bubble season gets called off to avoid the embarrassment.

As much as the Conley trade backfired, Bogdan has been everything we could have hoped for, and i look forward to seeing him produce for us for years to come.

Ive seen this argument, but game companies have been monetizing in other ways. They are going to keep that nonsense in plus slap an additional $10 on the price. That shouldn’t be ok.

Agreed. Not to mention the all digital future, which eliminates manufacturing and the resources needed for that. When that's gone it's not like they're going to reduce the price of games.

 
With the caveat that I'm not saying it makes sense for publishers to go to $70, if game prices had kept up with inflation in the last 30 years, as virtually every other segment of American life has, new AAA titles would be double that.

Video game prices have been resistant to inflation - and even been deflationary - in a way almost nothing else has.

In the mid 90s, there wasn't really a "standard" price, but top titles frequently went for $90-100, with an industry market share half what it is now.

Car and housing prices are have doubled or more since then, but even if you stick to entertainment as an apples-to-apples comparison? Movie ticket prices are up probably 400%. Disney World tickets are up 400% for single day passes. Sporting event ticket prices are, generally, at least double. Concert tickets, same.

For whatever reason, video games have been the one industry inflation hasn't really touched. Console prices have crept up and been slower to decline, but software? Stabilized at $50 in the mid to late 90s, went up to $60, and we're only just now talking about $70, 30 years after top cart games were $100 without blinking.

Again - none of this is to suggest that $70 is a sound business move. Only that if gaming had been as affected by inflation as basically every other sector of entertainment, the prices we see on collector's editions would be what we see for standard editions instead.
 
They're out there. Phantasy Star IV was $99 on Genesis at EB. Shit, I remember paying $100 for Back to the Future III on Genesis as a dumbass 10 year old.
 
Well maybe $70 games will force me to wait longer for a price drop and I’ll finally put a dent in my backlog. Hahaha, yeah I don’t believe me either.
 
Don't want to get too off topic, but I don't think inflation means what most people think it means. The way BLS tracks inflation over time changes as the bucket of goods evolves. The really important thing for consumer decisions is relative price.

I'd say the reason why NBA2K21 is going to be $70 has more to do with their monopoly on the NBA license and less to do with inflation. They may trot out the inflation argument, but thats more because the public accepts it without understanding it. If inflation we're really the case, then all game prices would rise. However, in the games industry, supply has risen just as fast, if not faster than demand. You can see this in the fact that real prices for games have actually fallen over time.

IE If $70 for NBA 2K21 seems expensive to you, it probably, actually is.
