Not sure if I plan on buying it day 1, but it IS worth a buy at some point. Personally, I think it's really cool that they have new DLC planned for a game that's like 8 years old.

I remember enjoying it back in the day and I’m really excited for it on PS4. Personally I think it’s the kind of game you’d want to look up gameplay to see for yourself if you’d like it or not.

The gameplay is good, it's just the quests and story are incredibly dull.

It's about as close to a generic version of WoW as you can get if WoW was a single player action rpg with stealth elements.

I'd hold off. I mean, it was fun when I played it ~8yrs ago but even then it was a fairly generic fantasy action rpg with some issues. I feel like there are plenty of other games that have come along in the mean that do the same thing but better. The only reason I can think to pick it up at full price is that you already played it and absolutely loved it back then (maybe got an Amalur tattoo) and currently have no way to replay it.

Rambling rememberences incoming, feel free to stop reading. The whole world had a very WoW ripoff feel to it. From the bright colors, ice area, forest area, fire area, etc. Not saying it was badly done, or that is bad in itself, you just get the feeling that you've been there before. The combat was fun but waaay too easy. I picked up some Xena rings early on and destroyed everything without them even coming close to me. They still wrecked when they were greatly underleveled for my missions. Eventually I switched through different weapon types just for something to do. My main complaint (which may be addressed in the update) is that I hit a level cap about 2/3s of the way through the game. Up until then the progression was fun and I did all the available side quests in each area but after I stopped leveling the fun died for me. I avoided combat, skipped side missions and bulldozed through the largely forgettable story to finish it up. I do remember the DLC areas being better and they actually stick with me now.

It's a fun title for 10-15 bucks but don't expect anything groundbreaking
 
Wow chakrams? That's a pretty rare weapon in video games.  The only other game I have encountered them in was tales of symphonia. 

 
Yep, they're my favorite magical weapon, because they keep bad guys at bay while you prepare to rain down armageddon on them with your spells.
 
Keep in mind that Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning will have a "Fate Edition" released at some point, which bundles together the main game plus the upcoming expansion.  They already announced it at the exact same time as they announced the regular edition; they just haven't put it up for pre-order at any stores yet.

Xbox prices have leaked so there is no reason to wait longer. Series S price is super aggressive plus with financing options, Sony's announcement is going to be interesting. I still think they match the $499 for the PS5 and go $399 for the PS5 AD, but let's see what happens.

If Sony goes $450, or even $400, they'll probably "win" the generation again. Not that I really give a crap about console wars. I just think it's insane to expect a ton of people with no jobs to shell out another $500 so quickly, when the Xbox One X isn't even two years old.

It's been up for Xbox for over a month now, and had a pre-order discount. In the XBL thread, folks are saying it's a pretty minimal 'remaster' and feels more like the original game with some QOL improvements and better resolution. Which is fine, but definitely waiting on a sale.

Sony has incumbent momentum and will definitely sell more systems at launch, unless they totally bungle the pricing. If the digital-only system is more than $400, it will be a harder sell, but there's no way they can hit $299. Xbox has also said they aren't competing with Sony in terms of selling the most systems and are focused more on Game Pass and xCloud, so mostly I'm just curious to see what happens in the next 18 months.

I mostly agree, however for me the combat was way too inconsistent. I would battle through random enemies in a tough desert and by the time I got to the haunted castle I was way too overleveled to have any fun. I think level scaling has spoiled me.

Salsa and her sister March don't use a chakram or at least a traditional one in the traditional sense as a throwing weapon. Their weapon is more a large curved/round blade like Innes from tales of hearts, the one antagonist from Yuyuhakusho or Nan from tales of vesperia that is round. Though Nan does actually throw hers and use it like a boomerang but it obviously is much slower and she mostly does that in cutscenes and not in actually battles. If we are counting characters like nan then I'd also throw in Dana from Ys 8 as both story intro scene and in gameplay she can throw her twin curved swords when she combines them together. I can't recall either twin using theirs for anything other than slashes. Or eithers weapon ever being thrown/leaving their hands.

They are also not very good characters and far from op. Middling at best due to their very weak attack power and while they have high hits other characters can accomplish that with higher attack power such as falsetto and jazz or with the werewolf choker accessory. Salsa's elemental affinity being light when she joins in nothing but caves, volcano, pirate ship dungeons for her portion also makes her suck even more unless you are on ng+ and or have the light auto aoe status. Dark for march (she just joins late but her intro dungeon is a cave at least) is marginally better. The one thing salsa does have is a attack buff iirc with small aoe range. But you don't really need to buff and there are auto buff accessories.

Op wise That would be Clavise (after leveling) Jazz, and Falsetto/Allegretto. And or Viola in the original version since her fps mode is broken if you have the time and patience for that. Falsetto and Allegretto is a toss up. Falsetto has high combos while Allegretto has a bit higher damage than her and a bit more range. Both you can make up for with accessories either putting the power band on falsetto to increase her attack by 20% per or putting a werewolf choker on allegretto so he hits more per attack. So it comes down to character preference between those 2 and or if you want slightly larger range with his specials over hers with high combos.

And before anyone complains that Jazz is slow just throw a god damn speed accessory on him and that fixes the issue. Jazz is so broken that a default level him can solo and one shot dolce while polkas shitty group which includes salsa requires being 14+ levels over him and struggle to defeat her on the first 2 encounters.

A lot of people are expecting the PS5 to match the XSX's $500 price tag, but that doesn't make any sense to me. The PS5 is weaker and has a smaller SSD. They should be able to price their console lower than the XSX for the same margins.

I wouldn't at all be surprised to see a $350 diskless and $450 optical. They're probably going to price aggressively to compete with Xbox and push digital ownership where they have a monopolistic control over all purchases. It's basically an investment.

I would have laughed at this before today, but with Microsoft selling a decently spec'd next gen console for $300, Sony has to be worried about their next gen console being almost double the price (if they are close to Series X pricing). There are a lot of people who will compare the PS5 to Series S (since it's next gen and can play all the same games) and not compare it to the Series X.

Isn't the PS5 ssd supposed to be some specialty extra fast drive? Even if it is smaller I don't think it is going to be cheaper.
 
My 300/400 estimation was a bit aggressive (I edited), but honestly that still wouldn't shock me. I think people are expecting a few things that don't make sense:

  • The gap between physical/digital is going to be higher than most people are estimating. $50 is not enough to incentivize people to purchase the diskless PS5, and they want you to buy the diskless so that you are reliant on their store for price control, higher margins for Sony, can't purchase used games, etc.
  • The PS5 is cheaper to manufacture than the XSX because it's similar but weaker.
  • It being weaker means people who are only going to play third party games (mainstream, casual folks) will probably not go towards Sony.

I'm not a technical expert, but I have listened to many of them talk. This is what I have come to understand: the PS5's SSD isn't remarkably fast, made of superior materials, or possessing an intricate, revolutionary design -- PC has some next gen SSDs that run on PCIE4 that are going to be better and are out already. There isn't even much of an indication that Sony's SSD is better than the XSX's SSD, if at all, Sony is just marketing that aspect more (cleverly).

The big thing here is that both consoles are designed to take advantage of an SSD-only computing paradigm which allows for all sorts of changes to the computational pipeline which will give radical improvements to overall efficiency.

That redesign will leave PCs behind consoles at a few key bottlenecks in the computing pipeline, which will help significantly mitigate the fact that they're going to be middle-of-the-road hardware wise compared to next-gen CPU/GPUs, giving the consoles quite a bit of firepower comparatively to where new generations usually launch. And that's very exciting.

Discless is the way to go for this next console gen I feel.  With how upgrades work and certain games not getting upgrades for disc versions, plus people who have discs of games with next gen upgrades who want a console with no disk drive, or certain games like CoD Cold War for XB not letting users upgrade their disc versions for free to next gen, digital I feel is the fool proof way to go.

Keep in mind this is JUST my opinion.

As far as cost goes, I feel $300 and $400 might be the way SONY goes to keep up with MS pricing.

Sony wants you all digital.

They don't want to compete with brick and mortar sales and they are absolutely going to be willing to subsidize hardware to accomplish that. They don't want you buying used games. They want you shopping on their store, feeding them your money directly into their ecosystem, taking that 30% scalp off of every purchase.

Look at how they've behaved over the past couple years. Fewer PSN card sales, removing digital game purchases from Amazon and Gamestop. Worse sales overall, etc. etc. etc.

If it means eating a $100 dollar loss, who gives a shit? They'll make that back in spades.

 
It's not hard to believe that both Sony and Microsoft want an all digital future. (Nintendo probably doesn't, because hardware and accessories have always been a main feature for them.) The only reason we haven't gotten there yet is because consumers push against it. But it's getting closer every day.

The only thing keeping me from going all digital, is my love of Steelbook game cases. PS4 cases are mediocre at best and have a weird bowing problem, where it seems like half my regular cases have the front cover bowing inwards, and looks terrible and is annoying to deal with. This never happened with ps3 cases.

You guys are dreaming, Sony will lose obscene amounts of money if they sell the discless PS5 for $300, and I think $350 is still a stretch. I'm guessing it will come in at $400/$500, and even at that pricing, they will still be taking losses on the discless version, since the omission of that drive barely saves any money.

I think you're the closest but, I only see a $50 difference. $450/$500. There's no way they're going to try and match the S at $299. There's no way.

 
$350 definitely feels too low for the digital version to me too, but I just don't see how Sony has much room to maneuver here. My assumptions:

  • Pricing will be done in $50 increments, not down to a $25 granular scale.
  • Digital PS5 will be more than XSS and physical PS5 will be less than XSX based on build cost/specs.
  • $50 is too low of a difference between physical/digital; Sony is going to push the DE hard. It's an investment in their ecosystem and price control.
Putting all of that together, I think that $350/450 are the most likely price points. Microsoft is clearly comfortable with losing money on their SKUs, so I don't see why Sony wouldn't be doing the same thing. I imagine if PS5 Physical is $450, that'll be a comparable amount of loss to Microsoft with the XSX at $500.

I think you responded to me but quoted the wrong post. The chat gave me a screen saying no one is available try later. I got through on the phone in about 45 minutes. I was working so the wait wasn't too bad.

I don't really understand this login compromise. Apparently someone made a child account connected to mine and purchased games under it. I guess that would work for awhile if I didn't pay attention to emails and charges.

Yea quoted the wrong person lol.

If you go through the contact support process, you are given a unique code. You can then either call in OR continue with live chat. I usually use chat as it doesn't take long, but with a phone call, once you call in with your code, it takes like 5 minutes unless they are swamped which is pretty unusual unless a huge game was just released lol

 
People keep saying that the PS5 price was revealed this morning, but I don't see that info anywhere. Not from Sony, and not even from questionable leakers on Twitter.

I fully expect the PS5 to be $450 and $500 and can be pleasantly surprised if it comes in any less. While I find myself buying more games on PSN now, I personally will be going for the disc version since I have too many PS4 games on disc that I'd still like to be able to play was well as blu ray. 

For the xbox, at $299 I still may grab one at some point simply to have access to Game Pass Ultimate. At that price point, it is a total steal.
