I don't have much interest in doing the whole disc v digital debate round 7000 but this is not even close to true. The only games that have mandatory network connections is mostly the biggest AAA western games and it's not even close to all of them. In the grand library of the PS4 it's a insanely small percentage of games.

I personally have 83 PS4 games on disc and the only ones that require me to be online to play are Destiny, Destiny 2, and Anthem.

Key word is “nowadays”. I know there are plenty of games that don’t need an online connection but most games now do. Also, how many of those games have day one patches that need to be downloaded? Disc and digital are one in the same, with the only difference being you can see and hold one.

I play Apex on Xbox and have never encountered so many toxic people on their mic until I started getting matched up with PS players through crossplay.

Yeah the more common issue would be any dlc purchased as once you activate it you have to have it downloaded to play the game with any save files that used it. Not sure about new game from scratch but I would assume it will still require it.

And all the annoying games where you need the demo downloaded to play it digitally since the full game is on the demo and the fake full game is just an activation key. I hate that the most.

Trophy stuff updated without having to go earn one. Level 200+ and I don't have a single plat. I didn't realize I had over 800 trophies.

I don’t think you are understanding what I’m saying, but it also doesn’t help the way I worded my statement. I didn’t mean that you needed to be connected to play single player, but to get patches, extra DLC, etc. does require an internet connection obviously. So in a sense in order to get a complete game unless you are buying some disc based game from Limited Run, you won’t have patches and game updates. But hey, if you like physical media, more power to you.

I got worried when I read that and dusted off my Wii to see if this was true. Thankfully both it and the system transfer WiiWare channels are still available for download. I had previously downloaded both so I don't know if that was a factor, but I can't see them keeping them up for only those that did.

Pretty slow to load, no way to sort, seems about as clunky as going through the old store purchased list. Not giving me high hopes for what's to come.

I do find the played tab interesting though. Looks like disk based games still show but with a lock on the cover art. Also looks as though it only goes back to 2018.

Updates to Party and Messages
Following this update, Party and Messages will be more tightly linked together and you will see changes to the UI. Both apps will now use the same ‘Groups’ of players for Party voice chats and message exchanges, instead of having different groups setup across the two apps. So now you can start a Party chat or send a message to the group you’ve previously chatted with across PS4, as well as PS5 when it launches.

New Avatars

We’re expanding the collection of pre-set avatars for players to showcase on their Profile. An array of new avatars from your favorite games will be available, including Bloodborne, Journey, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, The Last of Us Part II, The Last of Us Remastered, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and many more.

Mute all Mics from Quick Menu

We’ve added an option to “Mute all Microphones” in the Quick Menu, so you can easily mute your mics while gaming.

Simplified and more flexible Parental Controls

Under Parental Controls, we’re combining the ‘Communicating with Other Players’ and ‘Viewing Content Created by other Players’ into one setting – ‘Communication and User Generated Content’- to cover both areas of communication and UGC sharing. This offers a simpler setting that’s easier for parents to understand and apply to their children.

In addition, children can send a request to their parents to use communications features in specific games. When a child sends this request, the parent will receive an email notification and can choose to make an exception for that game and allow the child to use its communications and UGC features. This will provide more flexibility to both parents and children.

Enhanced 2-Step Verification

The 2-Step Verification (2SV) feature on PS4 will be enhanced to support third party authenticator apps as an option during the activation flow and 2SV sign-in across PS4, mobile and web.

Removal of Event Creation and Private Community Creation

After 8.00, you will no longer be able to create Events or access existing Events created by other users.

We’re also removing the ability to create private Communities under the Community app on PS4. If you already have existing private Communities, you can continue to access them.

Updates to Remote Play App on Mobile and PC

At the same time as 8.00, the existing PS4 Remote Play app on mobile (iOS/Android), Windows PC and Mac, will change its name to PS Remote Play, and the option to connect to PS5 will be added. You’ll need to sign in to PSN from your PS5 to be able to access the feature, so sit tight until PS5 launches this November!

I wonder how much business best buy lost when they got rid of GCU... I used to go there quite often due to their great sale prices, which would cause me to browse other isles, even bought a fridge there once. Only been there maybe twice since for games under $10.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve had to log into my psn account every time I open the app or website. It hasn’t kept me logged in in weeks. It’s annoying as hell. Not to mention how uncooperative all Playstation websites are when you use a VPN on pc.
 
Firmware 8.0 appears to be a mess causing errors when trying to load certain games, login issues and slow store issues.  It also appears to make you consent to allow Sony to listen to your conversations before you can use chatting features.

I haven't tried it myself, but this is just what I gathered from twitter and reddit.

Anyone else noticed that Ebay has pretty much put a halt to the 14 day ps plus accounts? I wonder if Sony had something to do with it. Been buying off same seller for years, now they have had everything removed, and when you search for other sellers, there is nothing but brand new Ebay accounts that are surely being removed as they list. Was always nice to just get a month of being able to play online for $1 since I only play online occasionally.

I think Sony killed the multi use of those once sub has lapsed. I used a 1mo earlier this summer with no problems, but earlier this month neither 14d or 1 mo valid codes would apply to my account.

Anyone else noticed that Ebay has pretty much put a halt to the 14 day ps plus accounts? I wonder if Sony had something to do with it. Been buying off same seller for years, now they have had everything removed, and when you search for other sellers, there is nothing but brand new Ebay accounts that are surely being removed as they list. Was always nice to just get a month of being able to play online for $1 since I only play online occasionally.

Maybe a crack down on digitally delivered listings. I was selling my codes that came with blu rays no problem for a few months, then I had a few listings cancelled.
