Capcom refuses to put the halloween costume pack for Ultra Street Fighter 4 (ps4) on sale. I know the PS3 version went on sale a few times but never the PS4 version.

I really wish this were cross buy, but since only the PS4 is on sale, guess I’ll remote play from work. Finally caving on Witcher 3 since, even though I know I won’t get it until next gen, it’s a free upgrade.
Also eyeing Knockout League. I liked Creed... is this better?

  • If you have PS+, they can have official guides or hints for levels that could be video or screenshots, which can be pinned to the screen to help you out.

That would have been around when I bought it. But I doubt I'd have paid $9, I must have used some sort of site-wide discount or credit-card related discount or something.

I still haven't played it for even a minute.

Bought it based on recommendations that it was the best 2D souls-like. But that was around the time Hollow Knight and Cuphead and Dead Cells came out, and then Celeste the following January ...

 
I've been playing through Salt and Sanctuary on Vita and it is an excellent 2D dark souls game. Plays great on the handle held too. For its current asking price it is a steal. Highly recommended if you enjoy the genre.

It also has a separate trophy lists for PS4 and Vita and is cross buy. I will probably play it again in the future on PS4 and build a completely different character. Currently playing a strength build focusing on Great Hammers and Great Axes through the leveling tree.

Seems like if you pre-ordered PS5 accessories from Sony's direct store, they'll be launching 10/30 instead of 11/12, so you'll get them a good bit earlier.

 
When I played Bloodborne I got up to the Father guy after beating the Cleric Beast but just didn't enjoy it enough. But when I played Sekiro I fought Lady Butterfly for hours and hours before winning. Something just kept pulling me back in. I now consider it one of my favorite games of all time.

 
One thing I love about the Souls series and Bloodborne in particular is how much of the narrative has to be discovered and the hidden bosses and secrets that you either stumble upon or find out about online. I appreciate games that don’t just put everything out on the table and make you work for the narrative a bit.

Games with secret boss encounters are great. Or like when you think you’ve defeated an enemy and they return back after a week and are even more powerful than the first time you banished them. Love that.
 
In my first playthrough of Bloodborne I completely missed two large areas.

Cainhurst Castle and Upper Cathedral Ward

It was a treat having so much new content on a second playthrough. I then held off on the dlc content so I could get the same feeling on a third playthrough. I missed all the dlc in my first playthrough as well. Bloodborne is probably my favorite game of all time.

Maybe Nier: Automata. Ninja Gaiden Black got dethroned.

The story was like the best part of Bloodborne. And the atmosphere was great. So I don't know what you played. And it's not rigid either, unless you use heavier weapons.
 
For me Bloodborne = best PS4 exclusive game that I have played, beyond that I am not sure where I'd rank it.  Admittedly I do still have quite a few well regarded PS4 games in my backlog. The game was different enough from Dark Souls that I hated it at first though.  Once I learned to stop trying to play it the same way I loved it. I think I had to give it like six hours or so before it clicked with me.

Literally some of the most compelling and flavorful atmosphere ever achieved in a videogame. Literally one of the most poignant, pointful, and rewarding narratives ever achieved in a videogame. Literally some of the most compelling storytelling ever achieved in a videogame. Literally some of the most fluid and responsive movements ever achieved in a videogame.

The four facets he highlighted are specifically Bloodborne's four most universally praised achievements, so I suspect he's just a troll.

It reminded me of why I could never get far through The Witcher. He praises the "complex morality tales" of the side quests:

The Witcher 3 is more like a collection of stories, a chorus of fables and morality plays, so much of the character of the game resides in the weary accumulated wisdom of the side quests and incidental plotlines that the character stumbles into where, as in Andrzej Sapkowski's books, decisive ethical strokes are invariably parried and a wry combination of duty, hunger and fear triumph repeatedly over idealism.

My experience with the side quests is that they were always predictable, trite, and extremely overwrought: "Hey look, these good guys are being hurt by these bad guys ... but wait! Investigate more! It turns out the bad guys might not be so bad! And the good guys might not be so good! See how deep and complex and adult and morally ambiguous this game is? That's how you know it's sophisticated!"

He gives examples, all of which I remember as eye-rollingly overwrought and annoying:

The pattern is repeated over and over. In White Orchard, Gerault helps a dwarven blacksmith whose forge has been burnt in retaliation for aiding nilfgaard. Track down the culprit and refuse his bribe, the 'good choice', we unswervable detectives think, and the dwarf summons the nilfgaardians to hang the drunk and desperate peasant while Geralt looks on uneasily. Sure, the guy was a vengeful arsonist, but man that dwarf is a dick.

"See, you thought the dwarf was the good guy? But wait, he's the bad guy! You thought the bad guy was the bad guy, but wait, you should have sympathy for him because ... well ... actually we don't give you any reason to have sympathy for him aside from that he's really a ... victim! Yeah! He's a desperate peasant! And the nilfgaardians are unfair! They don't even give him 'a trial', which, apparently despite being an anachronistic imposition of modern moral standards, is apparently something you should deeply care about! See how deep and complex and morally relative we are? So sophisticated, let's pat ourselves on the back."

Instead of trying to actually understand what sort of moral standards and perspectives might be at play in the setting of the story, you're instead repeatedly invited to congratulate yourself for being more morally sophisticated and modern and enlightened. It's morally relative in that you're a "neutral observer" that can see both sides are bad, but really it's morally absolutist in that you, the observer, are meant primarily to recognize how much more morally advanced and virtuous you are in being able to see how "both sides" are wrong.

The game might have a beautiful open world, or compelling combat for all I know, and the possibility of those things always convince me to try giving it another chance every several months. But I never get a chance to appreciate those things, because after ten or twenty gag-inducing "morality plays" in a row, I always quit playing.

Okay we get it, you don’t like the Witcher 3, but many people do. If you read the books you’ll find that Geralt’s biggest issue is just trying to mind his own business killing monsters and making money to survive but he always gets wrapped up in everyone’s BS.

It’s okay to love or hate a game no matter what people on the internet say, but there are millions of games out there, move on and find something you enjoy and don’t let this become the next last of us discussion.

Perhaps the problem is that viewing people and situations in multi-faceted ways and seeing deeper than the surface truly is novel for a lot of people. It really bothers me how so many people will fail to see (or choose not to see) the complexity in life and people, and yet still judge, criticize, denigrate, etc. certain events, people, and issues. Whether it's finances, politics, relationships, or anything else, there is almost always very complex things that help people form who they are and why they act. But our society is so trained to make a quick decision to just simply accept or reject without any true investigation or even any real genuine interest in a lot of cases.

This leads to people seeing movies, TV, games, etc. and thinking that those things are more complex than real life because people get more invested in those things than truly trying to understand some issues in life that go beyond their own sphere of relevance or influence.

To be clear, I'm not suggesting the game would be better if it were all bland, good-versus-evil idealism. I understand that The Witcher carries on in the line of the morally relative, neutral observer characters. The cowboy, the ronin, the hired gun etc. The problem is how heavy-handed Witcher 3 is about it. As the video points out (even though he's praising the game for it and I'm criticizing the game for it): it's in every single fucking side-quest.

In real life, yes, there are plenty of morally ambiguous situations, but there are plenty of other encounters that aren't. In real life, you'd win a pick-up basketball game and think that was dope and go celebrate with a drink. In The Witcher, you'd win a game of pick-up basketball and then you'd later find out by using your Witcher sleuth powers that the boy you beat at basketball is terminally ill with cancer and by winning at basketball you made him lose his will to live and he hung himself.

Heh, I started thinking about this a lot after playing TLOU 2. I was like, you seriously made a 20+ hour game in order to teach the player to have empathy for characters? I feel like any normal human being should be able to have empathy for a character without having to literally be put in their shoes, but the outrage of the internet shows that's obviously not true.

 
I prefer the traditional western approach to morality that was on display in games like Fallout 3 where you lose karma for being selfish at the expense of others. It made being moral a matter of taking the high road and added a lot of difficulty to the game. And the DLCs to Fallout 3 had some amazing moral decisions too. The Pitt was especially interesting.

I don't know what happened to Bethesda after that. Fallout 3 was such a great game with wonderful DLC content that added so much. Each one was worth paying for, while just about everything in Fallout 4's season pass was an utter disappointment. And FNV's DLC was even better.

 
Though I own it, I haven't played Witcher 3 yet, so I can't speak for that game in particular, but I have to admit that I'm not a fan of when games try to shove some kind of message down your throat, whether it's requiring you to make a moral choice or anything else.

Like, I just played through Mad Max a couple weeks ago and there are literally hundreds of collectables that you need to pick up if you want to plat the game.  One of them are "History Relics" (photographs of a time before the apocalypse.)  After damn near every single one of them, Max makes some kind of cynical comment about how much better the world was back then.  Like picking up a postcard of a couple on the beach and he'll be all, "There was a time when water was plentiful; who'd have known what we'd do to it."  After the first couple times, you think, "Yeah, sucks about what happened."  After a dozen times, it's turned into, "Yeah, Max, we get it, the environment is important, give it a rest."  After 103 times, you just want to yell, "Shut up, Max! You deserve the crapsack world you're stuck in!"

But yeah, I don't want some kind of moral choice to constantly be thrown at me, like they're trying to constantly make me feel bad about making poor choices.  I like the classic style of storytelling that prevailed up until the 90s before everything had to have gray-and-gray morality.  I don't want to know the sad tale of why Ganon or Kefka or any other villain wants to destroy their world, I don't want to feel sympathy for them and I definitely don't want to redeem them.  I guess I just like my heroes to be good and my villains to be evil.

I had Witcher 3 in the backlog for a while. Started playing it a 2 months back and I am on the final few missions in the last DLC. It's a good game that takes forever to play. There is so much content, some of which requires you to make moral choices. Not so much that it detracts from the overall game in my opinion.

To each his or her own.

Two things:

1. The horse controls suck; racing sucks.

2. Save before you do the abandoned inn.

I feel like I will be there also once I lose my GCU account (sometime next year.) I'm also starting to transition to Steam for most gaming... so there is that too.

100% agreed. It's wild how much B2G1's overlap with extra 5-10% off coupons along with red card and other random circle coupons. I've pre-ordered most of my new game through target at 40-35% off each time, not too hard if you're vigilant enough. Good riddance to BB
