I'm usually quiet on here, but you are just legit delusional if you think anyone gave a shit about Destruction All-Stars prior to it being announced as a PS+ game or enough to make it think it's a strike against Sony or even the game itself in someway.
The point is it was a launch title now delayed, further proving these consoles were rushed out. They should have delayed a year.

Disagree ... timing is just fine. If they didn’t have backwards compatibility, I might agree. But they do, so there’s plenty to play and will be better “next gen” games next year. I can’t think of a console launch where the lineup was so amazing that it actually justified the purchase. You buy it for the future potential ... and in my case, I’m psyched for Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls, plus my backlog of PS4 games.

Next year will definitely be interesting with the Switch Pro launching ... if they embrace streaming like the Control test, that thing could be a legit contender for next gen too.

Pros and cons to both. I just think the pros are heavily outweighed by the cons, such as a better roster of next-gen exclusive games, potentially bigger SSD baseline (which is actually a big problem even now), wider adoption of HDMI 2.1 TVs, etc. No wrong answer here really, but no denying the benefits that could have been.

Agree about the SSD sizes, I think that will be an issue and will bite all of us that are early adopters for both consoles. It’s easily overcome by adding an external HD or buying SSD add-on/internal drives ... but we’ll end up paying for it.

And I know I’ll get flak for it, but I’m not convinced the Series X has any actual “next-gen” games that will launch before the end of the year. At least Demon’s Souls is an impressive remake you can’t play anywhere else.

I'm happy the PS5 is launching now because:

1) So many games I already own are getting enhancements and I can't wait to play them again. Days Gone, Ghosts of Tsushima, and TLOU 2 at 60 FPS is going to be awesome. Warframe next gen! Just about everything I buy until I upgrade my PC again will be on PS5.

2) The PS+ Collection is amazing. So many titles I've wanted to play but I've been on the fence about buying are included.

3) I want to play Demon's Souls, Sackboy's Big Adventure, and Astrobot!

4) My PS4 ejects disks randomly, dualshock controller is janky as hell, the drive is slow, and it's small too. Even the PS5's drive is a big upgrade for the PS4's 500 GB drive.

I think if I had a PS4 Pro I'd be comfortable waiting, but for me the PS5 is an investment in the future that gives me the benefits of a PS4 Pro that I've wanted for years but couldn't justify. I don't care about Destruction Allstars (in fact I prefer the delay because it'll be PS+). I wasn't going to need an SSD storage upgrade at launch anyway. Etc.

Sure, it would probably be cheaper to wait, get good deals on things, etc. But there are going to be a couple of rough months ahead with a lot of social isolation, so this really came at a good time. And I can't wait to bury my head into the PS5 and ignore the real world for a bit. It's been a rough week.

Yeah, Astrobot looks pretty slick. Even if it’s just an extended tech demo, I feel like every new console should include a game packed in. Plus the PSVR astrobot game was probably the best thing I played on that peripheral, so I’m looking forward to it.

The hits just keep on coming:

1. No expandable SSD

2. No 3D audio

3. No 1440p

4. Peripherals released 2 weeks early so retailers will have nothing to offer at launch.

5. A list of incompatible PS4 games that is sure to grow with them using the community to beta test.

6. Destruction All-Stars delayed because it has no shot at being the next Rocket League or Fall Guys at $70.
Your post may not be perfect but so what, it doesn't need to be. The fact of the matter is that there are way too many strikes here for Sony. This is PS4.5, which is a shame.

Anyway, I know all this is subjective, but look at it like this, gaming is still a business and as gamers we have been flying under the radar getting waaaaay to much value for our money. The PS4/XB1 generation was the beginning of the end (factor in micro transaction sub economy) and now gaming is set to go the way of all the other entertainment industries. Remember how music and movies and tv entertainment were before the suits got so greedy?

How does not having obscure (3D audio) features and mid-range (1440p) features make it a PS 4.5 ... that's ridiculous. If it can play games at 4K and support everything "next-gen" coming out,  then it should be as "next gen" as anything else releasing this year. I swear, it's like the console "race" this year is channeling the current political environment.

Being able to get your accessories early is a bad thing now?
From the retailer perspective, yes. They make so little on the console that not having the option to attach multiple games, accessories, subscriptions and warranties kind of makes the sale a wash for them.

I'm usually quiet on here, but you are just legit delusional if you think anyone gave a shit about Destruction All-Stars prior to it being announced as a PS+ game or enough to make it think it's a strike against Sony or even the game itself in someway.
I also had zero interest in the game until they made the PS+ announcement. The point is they waited until 3 weeks before to delay a launch game that was originally deemed worthy of a price $10 more then Sackboy and $20 more then Miles Morales.

And now the delay of online multiplayer for Sackboy kind of makes that game a wash for anyone not willing to spend $200+ on new controllers to do local co-op.

Demon's Souls is the only reason I'm getting a PS5 on Thursday. I may end up selling the console during the doldrums of January if I'm done with it and the resale value is still high.

Demon’s Souls also the only reason I want a PS5 right now (and also to play my PS4 games on a hopefully much quieter console). But I wasn’t able to get in on the preorders so I’m fine for waiting it out until more are widely available.

I did get a Series X though and plan to sell my X1X and PS4 to help finance a PS5 at some point.

But they are still selling the accessories even if they are sold early, so that sale is made either way. Selling them early also leaves the potential for a second shipment for launch. Also with these consoles not being sold in stores there is less of a impulse buy of accessories at launch and they were probably done at the time of pre order, so I don't imagine selling the accessories early negatively impacts the retailers at all.

Complaining outdates politics. So it's the other way around. All the politicians are taking notes from Microsoft and Sony.

Plus, we put a man on the moon over 50 years ago right? So gimmie all the bells and whistles already. What are they waiting for, the Mars landing?

I'm playing on my OG PS4 still so the PS5 is going to be a big step up.  Give it to me!

Waiting for a cheaper revision always makes sense if you don't need the new system right away.  I wouldn't expect a 2TB SSD to be part of a new system anytime soon though.

Was that from when Target took $15 off all 3DS games? I got one too, but i unsealed it because the pins were pressed up against it and i was afraid that they would puncture the cover art due to how cheap Nintendo was with those awful 3ds cases.

Sadly, my copy of FRWL on PS2 is still only worth about what I paid for it, sealed.
yup from the target sale. I got most of the games they had on sale but soulhackers devil survivor 1 and 2 over clocked, strange journey Loz something I think link to the past? As I believe they had between world's and persona q1. Made out like a bandit. I really wanted pq1 at that price but thems the breaks.

Do they even make 1440p TVs? I'm honestly stunned anyone gives a shit about this. Like the 2.1 HDMI lark, when no games that aren't 2d simple indies will ever to run 4k@120 FPS for at least another generation (and quite possibly longer).

I don't really understand needing an expandable high-speed SSD either. Will there even be enough PS5 games to fill the stock SSD until next year? Get an external SSD to run your PS4s off of and it'll be cheaper and just as fast. PS4 games don't benefit from NVMe.

I guess the real complaints all come down to not being able to get extra peripherals and Destruction Allstars right at launch. That must be a real blow to uh... someone.

People playing on PC monitors I suppose.

Fwiw, I was looking forward to Destruction All-Stars more than any other games besides the Demon's Souls remake. I loved Destruction Derby 2 back in the day and I really enjoy Rocket League now.

The lack of 1440p is a legitimate complaint. It's a given not all games are going to be able to run at 4K, especially with decent framerates. Even with a lack of 1440p TV sets, you can notice the difference between native 1080p and native 1440p.
The competition is offering it, so the question isn't "Why?", it's "Why not?".

I don't really care about the accessories thing and I think they did a great job with the app redesign but everything else about the PS5 launch screams rushed.

I agree that the lack of 1440p resolution sucks for people with 1440p monitors that were hoping to use them, but that's a very small percentage of the gaming audience. Even on steam fewer than 7% of people use 1440p monitors according to the hardware survey! I don't think the launch is rushed because they're not targeting a resolution few people use, creating the expectation that there will be optimized software performance profiles in games throughout the PS5's lifetime targeting that resolution as well. Xbox is only doing that because they have the XSS Sku. These consoles are gonna last 5-7 years and 1440p will be dead in 2 or less unless you're a framerate gamer (and then you should be on PC).

As far as the delay of Destruction All-Stars goes, it sucks for people who wanted to play it. I want to play it. But I'm glad they're delaying it and giving it to us for free in a few months. And I wouldn't prefer the console on the whole being delayed just so it would come out at launch. Given Covid, things will be delayed. And it's only Software.

The new webstore looks like shit. I agree Sony has done some stuff that's failed, but I just don't see the "rushed" aspect. The complaints are fairly niche and/or a pretty short delay for very small, largely extraneous features.

IDK about you guys, but I can't wait to get my PS5. I'm not going to get it and think "this would be better if I was getting it in March of next year." When it comes to the most common use cases, the PS5 is up and ready to go.

Jokes on you, Target at least will be one week late with my charging stand order regardless due to it being perpetually back-ordered. Meanwhile every Walmart in my state shows as limited stock but when I call they can't find any.

I think the bigger miss here is NOT having shipped peripherals on-time to retailers.
so at first it was sending them out too early, now its not sending them out on time. you must be a trump supporter.

We should all try to keep the posts politics free even in jest especially now before the whole thread gets derailed.

I think we'll have enough to fight about amongst ourselves even if we solely focus on one aspect of the PS5.

Geez, not being able to add an SSD is somewhat understandable given availability and their speed requirements but not being able to store anything on an external USB drive other then PS4 games is ridiculous.

This a rushed launch to make it for the holidays. Eventually my PS5 will turn into my PS4 Proer haha. The storage will become an issue quickly for me.

Come on man, I respect your viewpoints because you’re a regular here, but all of this SSD nonsense is related to the launch period. Sony has made it abundantly clear that an SSD expansion is possible and has the built in ability to accommodate it, but it won’t be an option at launch.

It’s kind of fear mongering to make it seem like Sony is locking user into the built in SSD forever. Most users won’t need an expansion right off the bat, by the time they do I’m sure the option will be present.

Regarding moving PS5 games, they only run off the SSD so it makes sense you wouldn’t want them stored on an external drive that’s not an SSD. It would be way more confusing for the average consumer if you could store a game but not play it.

Demon's Soul will take 66GB. Miles Morales 50GB and an extra 55GB with Spiderman remastered. Sackboy is 32GB. AC: Valhalla is 46GB. Watch Dogs Legion is around 40GB. Cold War is 133GB. Devil May Cry 5 SE is 44GB. Dirt 5 is 65GB. Astro's Playroom is 11GB. That's a total 10 games with an install size of... 542GB. It will all fit on the SSD. Leaving you with over 100 GBs left after dropping like $400 dollars on launch games (and who is gonna do that).

Will you run out of space if you buy a lot of games eventually? Yes. Before the SSD expansion bay is useable? Probably not unless you buy everything in sight at launch or Sony takes forever to put out an expansion drive (at which point they will deserve criticism). There just isn't that much coming out at launch. And if you're worried about PS4 titles, don't, because you can store those on an external SSD and run them just as well because they don't use the PS5's high speed storage architecture anyway.

Please calm down.

Just so you all know, none of this things I've mentioned in the past day affects me but they all effect someone and it shows how rushed they are at creating an all new OS at the last minute. 3D audio would be nice (Xbox has had it for 3 years) but whatever.

My only real problem is having to spend $70 on Miles Morales before I need it in order to play the improved version of Spider-Man instead of just popping in the PS4 disc. I was all ready to play a stack of first party games with real PS5 improvements (not just faster loading which every game should have by default) but now feel like I have to wait even longer in case they get remastered like Spider-Man.

What about besides those games? tv/movies, plus games, the 20 something ps4 game ports they are doing for psplus as a bonus for early adopters, psnow and whatever stuff. I would imagine that and patches and updates will fill the system quite quickly. Yes if you don't download all of that stuff or even most of it and only keep whatever you plan on using it won't be an issue. But I've already filled up my ps4 hard drive and had to get an external. I have no doubt the ps5 will be even worse with increasing game sizes and such.

I don't doubt that solutions will eventually be available though. Just thinking out loud.

I don’t see that becoming the standard. My guess is that Sony knew they had a light launch lineup and decided to give Spider-Man a little special treatment as a system showcase. Miles Morales probably wouldn’t have been enough on its own, so they invested more to enhance the base game.

Sony has been desperately trying to cling to the Spider-Man license. Pretty sure they lose it if he doesn’t appear in a certain number of movies, not sure that crosses over to games. But I’m hoping most other games get a free upgrade (Last of Us II, etc). I could see them having a paid upgrade for an enhanced version of God of War when the sequel arrives, but who knows.

My point isn't that you won't need to get more storage if you want to keep 10+ PS5 games installed comfortably. You will. My point is that very few people will run out of storage space for PS5 titles in particular before they enable the extra internal SSD bay. I can't imagine having 10 PS5 titles installed on my console until late next year at the very earliest, there just isn't that much that will be out this year and it probably won't take them long to enable that bay. They just need to test compatible products to ensure people don't buy an NVMe SSD that they can't use. Very, very few people would actually use that bay at launch if it was enabled. It will be difficult to fill it the PS5 with native titles early on, there just aren't that many of them.

If movies and PS4s are what you're worried about space for then simply buy an external SSD of reasonable spec. They will always be much cheaper than getting an NVMe that would be compatible with the PS5 otherwise. And they will be just as good because BC titles aren't programmed to use the new SSD speed, controller, and priority system and therefore will be fine with a reasonable external.

The only people who are getting screwed by the extra NVMe slot not being enabled at launch is people who are going to buy 13+ PS5 titles at launch and want to be able to leave them all installed.

I put in a 2tb in my ps4 within a year of owning it. Would have done it sooner if it was on sale earlier. I love having a ton of games at my disposal. Games I play alone, games I play with certain friends, games I play with my kids, etc etc. Having 40+ games is great because you never know when you are going to have a few people over and want to play "you dont know jack" but won't want to wait for it to install etc.

Ive been active on the Sony ecosystem for a long time, but I’m no apologist. They’re not going to pay you for your loyalty.

You’re allowed to admit it’s a bonehead move.

I don't see how not offering it at launch is a bonehead move. Very few people would use it right away and we've known it was going to be this way for MONTHS. I'll bitch up a storm about how shitty the new webstore is, the fact that Xbox has better BC options (like auto HDR and last-gen load speeds), and the way we've been getting worse deals on PS4 for the last few years compared to xbox. I love game pass; I'm not a sony apologist, but this legitimately affects very few people who are just being very loud and unreasonable.

Two new consoles, both with promised launch titles being postponed, questions about sufficient space, compatibility, adequate stock to meet demand, having to roll out their lineups in a series of less-than-compelling video presentations...

Yeah, it pretty much fits right in with the rest of the year.  :puke:

Here's to a better 2021...and some 'slim' improvements after a couple years of de-bugging and re-tooling.

Maybe so, but perhaps these console makers looked at all the games for the past generation and see that we dummies keep buying products that are unfinished/incomplete. How long were Minecraft and Fortnite in beta? How many other games have been put out there with components to be added or retooled later?

I feel like the solution to everyone’s problems is the same solution that exists for every console that’s ever been released.

DON’T EARLY ADOPT, YOU NAIVE CHUMPS.

I think its time to take a break from these forums. I can find deals elsewhere. There is enough negativity going on the regular world so to have to see 99% of the posts on these forums be just constant whining and complaining about EVERYTHING is too much. I got new systems to play next week so I'll be enjoying myself. Hopefully you all can find a hobby that brings you enjoyment and not just another thing in your life to complain about.

It'll die down soon. You gotta figure a lot of the people bitching are just justifying to themselves the fact that they won't have a console in a few days because they couldn't secure a preorder. And I can understand that psychologically -- it's eminently relatable. I'd be unhappy if I hadn't gotten a preorder too.

Yup. Lol. Salty bunch.

People aren't just being negative because they can't get the console.  Sony has made a lot of errors and missteps the last couple of years and people have genuine reason to be concerned.

It goes back to killing the rewards program and censoring games.  Raising the price on plus but taking away 2/3 of the free games when they removed PS3 and Vita.  The removal of flash sales and the discounts on the weekly sales are not nearly as good as they use to be.  And this doesn't count the missteps on the PS5 which have been many.

And it doesn't help when the competition is killing it on the value proposition with game pass, backward compatibility, rewards and arguably a better machine.  I've soured on Sony a lot and hope they can turn it around.  It all seems to have started when Jim Ryan got more power.
