I'm glad to hear that Destiny is shaping up to be a good game. I was waiting for a PS4 Slim, but if the PS3 version doesn't play as well as the PS4 version, I may just have to get a PS4 this holiday.

 
Jack Black confirmed that it's not his voice in the Dead Island 2 trailer during an AMA on Reddit.

"The Dead Island 2 trailer had a voice at the end that sounded JUST like you, not sure if you’re allowed to confirm, but you could totally deny it, is it you?” asked another fan.

Which system? I played on Vita, which supposedly has better controls, but I still thought it was really awkward. The whole constantly switching between spells, missile types, and the hero just didn't work well for me at all. I beat it, but had no interest in going further.

Got an extra, as Sony sent me one as well...played some last night. I'm not a 1st person guy but I definitely enjoyed my time with it much more than in the Battlefield Beta.

 
Amazon sent me an alpha code. Not up for grabs, as it's the only one I've gotten, but I'm curious if anyone else got an unsolicited code from them. Just noticed it after wrapping up the campaign in WatchUnderscoreDogs, so probably not checking it out until tonight, but pretty happy about this strange turn of events.

I never got my E3 experience Destiny code on 6/12. Kinda annoyed about that, tbh. Not because I want to play (I don't have a PS4) but because I wanted to ebay that sucker. Oh well.

BTW...started playing Pixeljunk Shooter on Vita. It's not a shooter. Not at all. Kinda bummed about that. It's a slow exploration/collection game. It's not bad, but not what I was expecting. I was thinking it'd be a twin-stick shooter. Looks good and I like the way water is used in the cave, but about 20-30 minutes in so far it hasn't really caught my interest enough to play over anything else in my backlog.

There's plenty of shooting in it, but that's not all that it has.

Im playing on vita and yeah there is a lot of menu navigation during the levels. Almost too much. But im starting to get the hang of it. No way ill try to 100% it though.
 
I got a Destiny code last night and started playing. It seems pretty well done and it's nice listening to Peter Dinklage. Not sure if the game is for me though. I've kinda given up on first person shooters.

Yeah, there is shooting. Just based on the name I expected that to be the focus, which it's really not. The name is just a bit misleading in that respect.

It's not just that--it's also the aiming at enemies part. I was constantly having to zoom in to target enemies (even using the touchscreen which makes it far easier than the cursor drag approach) then back out to see what else was going on. Between that and the constant menu changing to send out spells and soldiers and the hero and different missile types, there was just too much that got in the way of killing stuff. It was very much a game about the controls rather than about strategy or fighting. I bought it when it first came out and spent I think $13 on it, so I was pretty disappointed overall. I think if you grabbed it when it was ~$5 for the complete version that it's an okay purchase. More than that is a bad buy, IMO.

What would be a better name? PixelJunk Spelunker III? PixelJunk Dynamic Fluids? PixelJunk fuck Shit Up?

Pixeljunk Miner Rescue would be a good fit. At least as far as I've gotten so far. Though I guess that would seem like a mining game. Pixeljunk Monsters has the same problem in that it's not descriptive of the game genre at all. Same with Eden and 4am. Looking at their list of games, they have a Pixeljunk Sidescroller game...which is a side-scrolling shooter exactly as I would have expected from the name Pixeljunk Shooter to be.

The real issue is just the approach they take with naming the Pixeljunk games. It'd make more sense to have a name that's completely non-descriptive of the content than to have a descriptive name that doesn't fit. Most of their games do have descriptive names that just aren't quite on target. I guess if you're familiar with Pixeljunk you know to look into them in order to know what to expect, but if not, the name isn't going to tell you anything about the gameplay.

your complaint is valid but you really didn't look up the game before playing? I am never surprised by the genre of any game I play since I look up every single one before playing.
 
He got the game ps+, it's not like he is complaining about the price or disappointed in the gameplay, he just thinks the name isn't correctly describing the experience in the gameplay enough to warrant the 'shooter' title ;)

and BF4 is fixed mostly for me after deleting and reinstalling. It seems playing the mp glitches up the sp, and playing the sp glitches up the mp. exactly. now I just need rank 25 and handgun kills...this game is great amazing when it works. I really enjoy CoD but the vehicles and teamwork and variety of classes/roles and  dynamic gameplay of it all blows cod's twitch gameplay away.

A bunch of people I know got them unsolicited from Amazon and Sony. I didn't get one but a CAG was nice enough to hook me up.

I think they tend to go for simple, catchy names than more descriptive titles, as I think PixelJunk Monsters is better than PixelJunk Tower Defense. Most people tend to do at least a little research before buying games, so I don't think there's that much of an issue with the titles not being completely representative of everything the game has to offer.

PixelJunk Monsters is all about killing invading monsters via setting up towers and dancing.

PixelJunk Racer features racing cars, but it's more of a party game.

PixelJunk Eden features a variety of gardens to explore, though you're doing that through a rope-swinging platformer.

PixelJunk Shooter's primary method of interacting with the world is shooting missiles or the grappling hook, but also has puzzles, boss fights, and rescuing scientists being important parts of the game.

PixelJunk 4AM is about the feeling of drug-induced raves that happen at 4AM.

 
Got a 64 GB Vita memory card at GameStop for no money out of pocket after some trades, so now I get to figure out if there are any important things to transfer over.

 
This morning after watching my son doing much better than me at Destiny I tried again and the damned wizard was fairly easy. Did I run into an unkillable wizard glitch last night or was my victory because I discovered I had a 2nd main weapon option and I switched to it? Don't know.
 
Its kind of ridiculous my friend and I both attended the E3 experience and redeemed our codes and he still hasn't been sent an Alpha yet, yet I just woke up this morning to a second one in my email. Oh well. Hopefully the same thing happens with the Hardline beta so I can give him the extra as well.

Also I have to say, I'm a bit more hyped for the Division now than Destiny after tasting the Alpha. Still getting it no doubt, but I expect the division to be better in the areas I'm looking for.

Since I never liked the Halo series I can get behind this.

Although with Ubisoft there is always a little worry, especially in the first entry of what will probably turn into an annual series.
