I don't think it was ever in a "this bridge has been burned to a crisp" state. Bethesda wanted Fallout 4 owners to get mad at Sony to try to force their way to get something done to make it happen, so it was a publicity stunt of sorts.

This, really. Sony didn't want buggy mods causing games to crash [or worse yet, cause exploits], and Bethesda didn't want to QA anything [since they've never QA'd a thing in their lives, why start now?]. So they compromised.

 
I'm really hoping this PS4 Pro thing is not just a fad for release only.  I just can't see developers keeping it up long-term when so many people will be fine with regular graphics, but i'd love to be wrong since I want to buy one and want to have a justifiable reason to own it.

What would be a fad about something they're required to support?

 
I want VR to be amazing but who can say what games are coming post launch? Launch games seem to be big tech demos. I'm concerned that developers aren't interested in putting resources for an experience that very few can buy.

VR-only games won't be big AAA budgets, I just hope that big games in the future like last of us 2 or God of war 4 have VR support.

Even at the cheapest, PSVR is a ton of money for eve: Valkyrie and some batman and Star Wars 1 hour tech demo
 
Resident Evil 7 will be a huge test of the VR gaming platform and I hope it's successful. I have the bundle preordered and I'll go for Eve and drive club (thanks to the season pass discount). Hinging on this being an experience rather than a way I want to experience games all the time, if it means my girlfriend and I will have fun and I can invite people over to try it out i'all be happy with my purchase. If RE7 runs well I'll be ecstatic.

I'm pretty sure Sony explicitly said they aren't putting any special requirements on developers for how they want to support the PS4 Pro. So, unless Sony is going to incentivize developers somehow, it seems unlikely that there won't be much support long term for it other than first party games by Sony. Maybe it will be easy enough to support with some graphical sliders on the development side, but why would EA, Activision, etc. go much out of their way to develop for a relatively small number of PS4 Pro's when the majority of people have and will have a standard PS4?

I fully believe all games will have "Pro support" but what does that mean? If Sony doesn't hold any set standard and the games are still made for the base PS4/Xbox One audience, it's not like these developers are going to be very excited to spend time and money on a "Pro" version. I'm sure we'll see a range of experiences with some developers dumping out a Pro version that has one tiny difference and others that will be quite noticeable. I just hope we get enough quality that it's worth its existence in the long run. I'm afraid we'll end up looking back and it will just feel like a gimmick to sell more hardware until PS5 is ready. Or even worse: it was a terrible gamble against Xbox Scorpio that didn't pay off.

I dunno, are PCs a gimmick? Its up to the developer if they want to do higher res, higher FPS or be able to do both.

Also, Neo was rumored way before Scorpio so no idea how Neo is a response to Scorpio.

I don't see how this would make business meetings better than a camera and big monitor. Sitting with avatars of family members versus basic video chat with skype or over FaceTime? Why would anyone do that? That seems like the most impractical way I could imagine to run a business meeting or spend time with family. You know what also works... watching the same movie on your own tv and talking to a family member at the same time (if that is your thing). We can already do pretty much all of that with monitors and stuff now. Why would I want to limit myself to a concert where I am in the 3000th seat in VR when I could just be up with the concert in full view? There are so many limits to the experience VR can offer. Sure it's going to be very cool to try this stuff out, but the practical real world applications in many cases pale to what we can already do now.

Going back to business meetings for a second... or family vr meetings or whatever... how can you judge facial expressions and stuff when someone has a helmet on their head? It just is so impractical versus seeing their face and talking to them.

We can already do pretty much all of that with monitors and stuff now. Why would I want to limit myself to a concert where I am in the 3000th seat in VR when I could just be up with the concert in full view? There are so many limits to the experience VR can offer. Sure it's going to be very cool to try this stuff out, but the practical real world applications in many cases pale to what we can already do now.

Going back to business meetings for a second... or family vr meetings or whatever... how can you judge facial expressions and stuff when someone has a helmet on their head? It just is so impractical versus seeing their face and talking to them.

I think VR will end up like 3DTV. Cool, sure, but just won't end up being all that. Sort of like flying cars. That sounds cool and would be cool to experience but it's not a practical way to get around and would create dangers far above road traffic. I think 20 years from now it'll still be tv's and living rooms that look pretty much the same kind of setup we have today.

I don't know. I haven't tried it myself but I have heard a lot from people who have. It's supposed to be pretty amazing stuff, even in this early stage.

My money is on this technology being everywhere in a few decades. It's too immersive not to be utilized in 100s of ways.

I'm honestly scared to try it because I'm pretty sure I will want it pretty bad. It's the next level of entertainment and it will allow us to do things we can't even imagine yet... Eventually.

I'm definitely not a developer, so I won't claim any expertise here. I have just heard that developers aren't happy about having another version of a PS4 to develop for and test for, so it seems like they might do minimal work towards it unless it sells quite well. The problem is that a PS4 Pro is still going to play regular PS4 games, so it's not the same as people complaining there are no games for it like a WiiU, etc. so it won't be as noticeable when there is less content.

Again, I hope i'm wrong and I hope developers treat it like PC specs as you allude.

Those 3D TVs were pretty amazing stuff when they came out. Now not so much. What is said now about 3D is that in order for it to catch on it has to loose the glasses. VR seems similar in that it will need to somehow loose those ridiculous looking headsets.
 
My circa 2008 PS3 (phat, only backward compatible with PS1) finally died.  I knew it was coming.  I still have a ton of PSN content I want to play through on PS3 though, and I can't download any of it on my PS4.

Are there any good deals on a new super slim PS3?  I guess I sort of thought I'd be able to get one cheap whenever, but all I see are refurbished ones, and they're even still $150.  Jeez.

I wish all my PS3 content could just be played on PS4 Pro.  I'd definitely buy one for that alone.  Alas.

I picked up a 500 GB slim on Amazon for $100 about 4 months ago for my son. Keep your eyes peeled

Let's be honest here: none of those matter at all. The only thing on affa's list that the general population is actually going to care about regarding VR is what it can do for their porn, and that's all that it'll need to be popular.

I don't think that developer thing is a big deal, as I imagine it's more of a "crap, we've got another SKU to worry about" thing early on that isn't an issue once they work it into their development pipelines. Most already make games for multiple SKUs (PS4, XB1, PC, and maybe others), so one more that's not very different from the base PS4 isn't a big deal.

Most Walmarts have the 500GB super slim PS3 for $150. Some Targets have the 12GB PS3 on clearance for $100.

Nice. I'm excited now. I've been dying to play all the Resident Evil games ever since I've played 6 (I know the gameplay is completely different between classic and modern haha) and now with 7 coming up this will be a great time.

To get the authentic flavor of RE1, try playing through it without any kind of walk through or guide. It's totally worth it to not spoil any of the game. Same with RE2.

I have the Director's Cut but can I play Remake instead? Also, when should I play 0 then? I was going to play it first since I thought it would be best to play it in chronological order.

Play the remake, it would've been great if they kept improving on the formula they laid out with the remake. You also can start with 0 if you want to go chronological

It's been a couple days since I preordered from best buy, I'm still waiting on mine. I read somewhere that we get the codes 24-72 hours after you purchase it, but who knows.

 
In case anyone is buying Operation Raccoon City, the DLC is definitely recommended.  Makes the game much better since it adds a complete second campaign that follows the 'good guys' through levels that parallel the base RE game series. Don't know why the retail release only included the villain's campaign... I think reviews would have been much better if they'd offered the Echo Six campaign as the base game and the villain's campaign as DLC.

Thanks. I'm not one for exploits, but I wonder what's keeping someone that just wanted to play the MW campaign from just not picking up their preorder? And also, I wonder if the vanilla IW disc would work to keep it unlocked after release or if you get yet another code to keep it available?

I'm a little rusty on my RE timeline but I think the main games basically occur in number order. I think some stuff starts occurring concurrently but again it's been a while since I've paid attention to it.

Story wise, the chronology is: 0 - 1- 3 - 2 - 3 - Code Veronica - 4 - Revelations - 5 - Revelations 2 - 6.

Two and Three have concurrent stuff.
