YES, Very upsetting.  I'm just real grateful that I had the funds in my wallet and i didnt get hit where it really hurts like my bank account.   I hope that i raise some awareness for you guys, from everything i can gather is that these compromises are good at being timed when were asleep and sony support is closed.  I'm real confused on how this can happen

Wow, weirdness.

I don't have a CC tied to my PSN account or on my 3DS or steam or ... really any service. Heck I hate having one tied even to my Amazon account and usually delete all stored payment options.

All that said, I have my CC account setup so I get a text alert to ALL credit card charges. So if something were to happen, I'd be notified. Similar to how I am sure my email address for my PSN account is good so I get email alerts within a couple minutes of ALL purchases (even the free stuff). So if something happens, I may not notice immediately but I'll know the moment I look at my phone.

Considering the people put a PS3 on your account... it seems like Sony would be able to (and happy to) hardware ban that system.

 
I've seen a lot of people recently mention their account being compromised. One of the more common games seems to be Neverwinter too. Not sure if it's just a coincidence or if there's something specifically with that game allowing it to happen (similar to the old FIFA problems on the Xbox side from a few years back IIRC)?

So never have your PayPal or credit card info stored on your psn account right? That's the best way to protect yourself?

I don't have mine on there. That way if your account is compromised, the person accessing it can only drain your PSN wallet and not put charges on your cards or paypal.

I hate that Xbox requires you add a payment method in order to download some of the GwG free games.

I'm really unsure how it happens.  It is very confusing.  To top it off i woke up stupid early this morning to chat with sony and my psn account is banned, preventing me from basically playing video games on my 3 days off that i took this week.....  I'm at sony's mercy at this point.

 
paypal removed, i usually dont leave it on there anyway but i have gotten lazy about it lately, probably time for a wholesale password change over all these sites.

So... was all this a result of this email being a scam, or an issue with neverwinter?

Not that I don't believe you, but there is something missing here - how did the perp get your password? Reading an email on your pc does not magically give them your PS4 password, and neither does downloading Neverwinter.

So when/how did they get your pw? if it's through other means [using the same pw somewhere else that got breached, for example] then the timing is just a coincidence and you're lucky you were online.

Anyway, can you shed some more info on this? Because right now, I'm just not seeing how they got your pw since Sony itself wasn't hacked. Your account was [almost] hijacked, but they need your pw for that.

Let me address one thing real quick. IM VERY careful with my passwords and emails. I've always had complicated passwords since i was a little kid messing with computers. So whatever did happen, it wasnt my fault. Somewhere along the lines there's info somewhere leaking through the cracks and im unsure exactly where.

When researching the issue, try typing "neverwinter ps4 account hacked" in google and you'll see exactly how huge this issue is, with new posts each day of people going through the same exact thing as me. The only thing i can figure out is the neverwinter/paypal is the common factor.

When entering chat today with the rep i only needed to provide my psn id and a phone number. So if i were to take a shot in the dark it has to be something where the hacker or jackass contacts a sony rep, somehow throws them some info to get the rep to give them access to my account.

When it comes down to it I REALLY dont know. I'm 100% positive it wasnt something i did, so before anyone thinks a little bit about it being my fault please dont. From what i can gather it can happen to any of us that are extremely careful. The only thing i did different yesterday was enter in that free to play code sony gave us earlier this week,

I really dont want this to happen to anyone on here, I was fortunate to catch this before they spent my real money. At which point they would've been taking food off my table and out of my sons mouth, that would've put me on a whole 'nother level of pissed off right now.

I know this may come off wrong, but it sounds like you have more problems than just this one issue. You need some buffer money set aside and to make sure your money has no way to go anywhere you don't want it to.

...

Another PSN tip, for those that haven't done this.... make sure your account is setup to REQUIRE a password at checkout. So if, say, someone managed to hijack your account through your network ... or get their system added through calling Sony... or whatever... that they would be 100% required to have the password to make any purchases.

As I recall that one was just people taking advantage of MS having a terrible web set up for logging in where it would tell you if you had found an account and then let you brute force it until you found the right password combined with terrible phone reps who were giving out full account info to people who didn't own the account. They would then use the CC on those accounts to buy FIFA ultimate team items to sell to unsuspecting users and the money became very hard to trace.

I actually did this about 2 months ago when my son bought something on my ps4. It didnt prevent the person from doing what they wanted.

I could get behind a technically cleaned up Mass Effect Collection, ala the Uncharted Collection.

I don't think Andromeda is going to make the March window. Unless they are keeping tight lipped like Bethesda on Fallout 4.

Let me address one thing real quick. IM VERY careful with my passwords and emails. I've always had complicated passwords since i was a little kid messing with computers. So whatever did happen, it wasnt my fault. Somewhere along the lines there's info somewhere leaking through the cracks and im unsure exactly where.

When researching the issue, try typing "neverwinter ps4 account hacked" in google and you'll see exactly how huge this issue is, with new posts each day of people going through the same exact thing as me. The only thing i can figure out is the neverwinter/paypal is the common factor.

When entering chat today with the rep i only needed to provide my psn id and a phone number. So if i were to take a shot in the dark it has to be something where the hacker or jackass contacts a sony rep, somehow throws them some info to get the rep to give them access to my account.

When it comes down to it I REALLY dont know. I'm 100% positive it wasnt something i did, so before anyone thinks a little bit about it being my fault please dont. From what i can gather it can happen to any of us that are extremely careful. The only thing i did different yesterday was enter in that free to play code sony gave us earlier this week,

I really dont want this to happen to anyone on here, I was fortunate to catch this before they spent my real money. At which point they would've been taking food off my table and out of my sons mouth, that would've put me on a whole 'nother level of pissed off right now.

To me, it doesn't sound like social engineering of Sony support. The reason is simple -- if it was that easy to get into Sony accounts, people would have been getting trolled [pw changed, etc] for the last few years/months, even without Neverwinter.

So, as you stated, whatever is going on seems to be directly connected to Paypal and/or Neverwinter.

Now... that doesn't really answer the question since no matter what you do with Paypal, or Neverwinter, there shouldn't be an 'in' to get the PW of your Sony account.

It's not a pure breach of paypal because clearly they'd just transfer money in that case, rather than doing the neverwinter thing [i just did some research on what exactly is happening].

So.. I think there is a weak link somewhere in the way Neverwinter links with your accounts. I don't know enough about that to know exactly what's happening, but that definitely seems to be the issue. That it also relies on having a linked Paypal account [which seems to be the case] implies that may have something to do with it as well... something about having both a linked neverwinter acct and a linked paypal acct opens up a security hole -somewhere-. very, very odd.

At least it's not a pure security breach / acct hack. Also, from reading several different threads on it, it sounds like Sony is well aware of the issue, and actively refunding / fixing people with issues. If it happens to anyone reading, just don't do a chargeback of any sort and it should be fixed w/o too much pain [other than dealing with support].

I was just thinking the other day that I wouldn't mind a Mass Effect series remaster with all 3 games in one package. Would probably wait until it hit $20 or less though since I still have all 3 games on 360.

Telltale games being on sale ( at horrible prices too, wolf among us for $12 ? are you fucking kidding me ?) makes me think that the flash sale is not this Friday.

Yep, and I'm sure there's more to come. Unfortunately, the franchise was already in trouble with MGSV when, even in Kojima's hands, the series entered "soulless cash grab" phase.

yeah steven universe has peridot, pearl, garnet, ruby, amethyst, lapis lazuli, opal, alexandrite, sardonyx, sugilite, sapphire, steven and jaspar. 13 right there.

I just want to be Connie and the fusions but even a lot of the normal Beach City residents are quirky enough they could be worked into a playable character or serve some sort of support role.

onion and his harpoon gun, willy and his french fry mascot costume. mayors kid with the t shirt cannon. would all be totally plausible. Connie once she gets the sword makes sense. Oh they could probably add stevonie as well though that one doesn't seem to have any combat stuff.

The Castle of Illusion remake is amazing. Highly recommended for that price!

There is hardly ever any concrete info on flash sales in advance.

That said, the chances of it being today are extrememly high because they mostly follow a yearly pattern for flash sales. The past two years had the August flash sale on the 3rd Friday of the month and today is the 3rd Friday. So statistical probability says, it's today.

But like Frisky said, wait. These things typically don't show up until late into the afternoon (like 5pm EST).
