Honestly, this gen I prefer digital.. only because you gotta install the whole disc to HD anyways.

Though I do agree with the idea of real ownership, sometimes the discs are empty (TONY HAWK PS4)

That's weird. So because a horror themed game is coming out a week after halloween instead of a week before you're less inclined to want it? I've never based my game interests around an arbitrary date on a calendar but to each their own.

It will drop again. Interest in that game is probably almost nothing now. Faded quickly to begin with and now with all the big fall shooters I can't imagine it drawing huge numbers in online.

So, I'd say it'll hit $19.99 or lower soon.

do you watch a Christmas Story in December or July? do you carve a pumpkin in October or May? many people do a lot of different things based on an "arbitrary date on a calendar"

why is it weird to prefer playing a horror themed game during october? there is a reason horror themed movies like Saw and Paranormal Activity came out in October, that's the month people typically want horror

would you prefer to watch A Christmas Story during December or July? do you carve a pumpkin in October or May? there are a lot of things people do based around a date on the calendar, you just noticed that now?

It's not a Halloween specific game it's a horror game. You do realize they make and release those year round. And I watch movies whenever I'm in the mood to watch them I don't watch movies just because they feature the holiday that is currently going on.

If you ever thought about getting the 3D, God of War-like, Lords of Shadow 1 game; something you might consider is getting the Lords of Shadows collection on disc from amazon instead. $15ish dollars gets you Lord of Shadows 1 (on disc), it's 2 DLC level packs, and Mirror of Fate HD (via voucher code). Just make sure to buy it new as only the base game is on the disc. The 2 DLC packs for LoS 1 are $20 on PSN just by themselves and have never been on sale. Lords of Shadow 1 also is not available on PSN and can only be played on the disc version so you don't have to worry about the ultimate edition ever going on sale on PSN.

I played through the first game over the summer and wrote a review if you wanted to learn more about it.

To me it's not worth it. The fact that it won't play 4K discs is dumb and something I won't support. I'd get a deal on a PS4.

PS4™ Pro does not support 4K Blu-ray Discs.

I'd go for the pro over the regular PS4 or the new Slim. Either will play all the games, the pro will just make them many of the older games (with updates) to look much better and all the new games will also have pro upgrades. But rest assured whichever system you get he'll be able to play everything... but the Pro is what I would get if I were in the market for one for my kids. Not just for the graphical improvements for games, but because as a former kid myself I remember what it was like having old tech while kids had newer stuff and I also know that great feeling of being ahead of the curve while my friends were slightly behind the times. I think your kid will appreciate getting the newer system, but given he's waited this long... he'll probably be very happy with whatever version of the system you get. Though, I'd aim for the Slim more than the standard ps4.... just wait for BF to see what the deals are going to be.

I doubt this kid has a 4K monitor when his parent is questioning buying the cheaper standard PS4 or splurging on the Pro. For you it may be dumb as you have a massive 4K/UHD movie collection... but for the average family... they just aren't going to have that stuff. Heck most of the content I watch now is less than 1080p. I doubt 4K/UHD stuff is going to catch on. We still have standard DVD's outselling BR discs... and with streaming video often being DVD or lower quality, it's clear that consumers just don't care about higher definition movies. They care more about cheap prices and convenience.

There isn't necessarily a right or wrong answer but I would go the opposite direction. I think the Pro and Xbox S series are more gimmicky than anything. It plays the same games and all games won't be graphically enhanced. Plus there will probably be a huge price difference between the Pro and Non-Pro. You can either save that money, or use that money to buy a few new games, which I am sure kids will be begging for. Last but not least, since Scorpio is coming out next year, the PS5 won't be more than one year behind it. So you have a 1-2 year time frame between now and your kids crying their faces off saying "The PS4 Pro sucks! I want the PS5!!!!!! Waahhhh!"

 
The PS4 Pro also adds support for SATA3 hard drives.... but I think the bundled drive is still SATA2.

My biggest concern with the Pro is that it uses more power and will probably run hotter. With heat issues shortening the lifespan of previous gen consoles, the PS4 Pro may not have the long-term reliability of the PS4 slim.

 
So I think I finally made a decision on a PS4 HD upgrade.  Anyone here buy the Seagate external drive for $79.99 and pop it out?  I am a little worried since it voids the warranty.  I have a coupon for 10% off so I could get the 2TB Seagate STBD2000102 for about $100 and still have a warranty.  Any thoughts about removing that drive from the external?

I have done it it's very easy. It can pry open with your fingernails or a small flathead screwdriver. When unscrewing the PS4 enclosure be careful not to strip the tiny screws. Before you start make sure you back up your saves too!

I used one of those external drives. It is very easy to get the hard drive out of the enclosure and also very easy to install in the PS4. I did this a few months after getting my launch PS4 and it has been going strong ever since. Highly recommend it.

 
I also used the external drive since it was around 20% cheaper at the time. There are multiple YouTube videos that use the external drive so you can follow them step by step to complete the installation.
 
Hmm... I've only spend about $50 for the spend $100 get 15 promotion. I'm debating if I want to preorder something digitally, buy some vr games, or just sit this one out...

Save yourself more time and do a full backup. That way you dont have to redownload any digital games or patches etc.

I put a 2 tb drive in one PS4 and a 1tb in another. Easy peasy. Made sure to do full backup and restores though. PSN sucks too much to waste time and bandwidth.

Zero Time Dilemma, the RE three pack and two Dead Risings were games that helped lift me to $100 (I also had a 20% off coupon). If you have a Vita, ZTD is pretty cool so far (I'm only an hour in)

 
I just went through all my PSN receipts for the month... looks like I'm down to $20.91 needed for the spend $100 promo.  So tomorrow if nothing shows up in the sale that I want, I'll just go ahead and buy 4 of the PS1/PSP games I have in my wishlist.   Right now I'm thinking, Loco Roco 2, Alundra, Legend of Dragoon, and Threads of Fate.   That'll put me $3.05 over what I need but at least I'll have 4 games I actually want instead.

Anyone here own the PSN version of Ridge Racer Type IV (PS1)?  I'm wondering if it has the second disc with the upgraded version of the original Ridge Racer like the physical version had?  Sort of like how on PSN the PS1 version of Strider 2 included the second disc (virtual disc) for Strider 1 just like the physical version.

Already got the plat for ztd. I liked VLR better. RE and dead rising games have never been my cup of tea. Thanks for the suggestions though.
 
World of Final Fantasy is way more fun then I was expecting. I put about 12 hours into it this weekend. I couldn't stop playing. Old school JRPG style mixed with a Pokémon collecting and battling system.

My 2TB drive was an external that I popped open. Just make sure you test it before doing that.

If you go for an internal, you probably want the new Firecuda hybrid drive; it may offer slightly better performance. But I haven't seen any real-world tests of it yet in a PS4. I can't find it on Best Buy's site so availability may still be low.

On Vita it was hold down the PS button then scroll down to something like reset game which let you change discs. Strider 1 actually is the default game after a fresh install so you have to do this to play Strider 2. They messed up on the release defaulting it to Strider 1.

I'm thinking maybe Ridge Racer Type 4 won't have the bonus disc stuff since I can't find anywhere that confirms it's included and the bonus disc not only had RR upgraded with 60fps, but it also had some other demos and stuff. So probably unlikely it'll be in the PSN version. I think I'll just wait and get the PSP version again. I owned that before on umd for the original PSP... but having it digital now would be a bonus as it's got most of the content of the classic RR games.

 
Been itching to play some horror games. I apparently got Outlast free at aome point, how is it and is the whistleblower dlc worth the 3 bucks? Also how is Layers of Fear is it worth 12? Also you guys have any ideas as to what may be on sale for week 2? Im really hopeing for the Evil Within season pass on the cheap.
 
I bought Armaggedon Riders for PS3 and I must say that I am pleased. It is definitely Burnout Paradise with zombies. That isn't a bad thing. I can also say it's a great game for Halloween and definitely one of the PS3's hidden gems. Well worth the $2.49! Way better than Zombie Driver HD!

Does anyone here play Diablo 3?   I have a hardcore lvl 70 paragon 100ish character, and just began a new game to level all my other chars and realized you can't stash anything with the hardcore char to use with other chars.

So now i need to level all the other classes to 70... and supposedly that goes infinitely faster if you play with someone high level, so... if someone wants to be nice and play together, that would be cool.  

EDIT --- wait.  can my hardcore char stash for other hardcore chars on my account?  if so, i can just level my gem of ease and do it that way, which would be significantly faster.

You should probably play Outlast to see if you like it, if you do then Whistleblower DLC is absolutely worth it.
