For the small up-charge for the deluxe I would say go for it. I got the deluxe at launch and am happy with it. If you have played Rainbow Six Siege it is similar. Yeah you can earn the currency to buy the characters but it takes a looooong time to do so and then you are not able to buy ANY of the silly costumes or anything since your in game currency goes towards the characters themselves.

Plus Guile and Balrog are beastly.

Zestiria isn't very good due a number of gameplay issues. The camera wasn't built for on field objects/enemies or enclosed spaces and spazzes out. The gameplay is very bare bones compared to the other games. The equipment system is based on random skill drops from enemies and in shops. Fields are huge and empty and take too long to run across, the frame rate is heavily unstable and half the usual frame rate of the other games in the series, ugly grey filter on the ps3 version, bugs like falling through the ground, skin missing, npc quests notifications staying stuck ect. Slow attack learning rate (took 10 hours just to get your first couple artes) and unbalanced party members due to the weakness system in place where each arte covers an element or a enemy type and you have to hit those to deal damage worth a damn and keep the bonus gauge up during combos.

tldr its a very poor title and I don't recommend it. A better ps3 entry point would be tales of xillia 1 to xillia 2 to graces.

If you know how to apply mods you could get the steam version and improve the game quite a bit via 60fps mod among other additions. I was only able to do the infinite money mod because I'm not tech savvy.

If you have a PS3, I'd say start with Symphonia, but yes, that's a good game to start.

Symphonia wise it'd be better to play the gamecube version for a better frame rate and translation vs the mostly minor extra content in the ps3 port which is just a port of the ps2 port :/ Only things worth going for in the ps3 version are all party members having mystic artes(final special attacks), all characters have new unison artes, a couple extra costumes and 3 new boss battles in the one secret dungeon.
