SOMA and Shadown Complex Remastered are definitely worth picking up IMO. SOMA being a creepy, exploration driven sci-fi horror game with excellent writing and story.

Shadow Complex, especially if you haven't played it on Xbox 360, is one of the best modern, Metroidvania style action adventures I've played.

There are people that like Ethan Carter. I never could get into it.

I really don't care if you dislike digital, or are scared of it. I used to have a ton of cassettes. They're in the trash now. All my VHS is in the trash now. All my dvds are sold now. And I skipped bluray because of streaming.

Comparing Sony to the Wii misses the point. The playstation back catalog is worth a mint. Even if Sony went bankrupt tomorrow, it would be profitable for a company to buy PSN and maintain it. Or simply break it off earlier.

I mean, you're talking about how you don't even think your PS4 will work in 30 years, yet you're worried about having physical for it?

I owned a ton of great games from the 80's. Everything from Ultima to the original Wasteland to many other classics. But you know what? Even though I owned them, who has an Apple II, or a IIGS, or any other relevant hardware lying around? Very few.

But you know what we do have? Demand to play those games. So what do we get? GOG and Steam, letting us play all those games better and easier than ever before, all patched up for modern computers. And digital.

If my child self was worried about his gaming collection I'd tell him: STOP. It's not worth stressing about. Buy what you want to play. Because in 30 years, you're going to be able to buy this game for a dollar during a GOG sale, and then never play it anyway because you've got a couple thousand other games to play.

In 30 years, I bet you it'll be easier to play some of the games I bought on PSN decades earlier digitally than it is physically.

This is going to be the last I respond to this, because it is getting out of hand, but I am not scared of digital (I probably have 250+ games digitally) but this started with me basically just saying that one shouldn't have the confidence that guaranteed you can download this stuff forever, because there is no clear future for this. Sony could cut off the PSN tomorrow and you would have no recourse for it. Those of you who bought Yakuza 0 or RE7 digitally would be just SOL if you hadn't downloaded it. That isn't going to happen, but as consumers we have almost no protection when we buy digitally. You mention that PSN is totally different than the Wii, but why? The Wii was hugely popular (far more so than the PS4 now) they sold games digitally, and about a decade later the digital rights to those games will be of no use. Sony and the PSN can't suffer that same fate? Why not? Again, I am not overly worried about this, I buy a ton of PSN games, but your confidence seems miss placed.

Believe it or not, there are actually people out there who still do not have the internet. One of my friends is in a low-income family; saved up for a PS4 but can't afford the $60+ a month it would cost to get broadband service.  Whereas my girlfriend lives out in the sticks where they don't get broadband internet or even cable television service at all.  Most games can be played perfectly fine without ever connecting to the internet, though some may be buggy enough that they need those patches.  Well, except for "Season Pass Discs" like Telltale likes to put out that pretty much require the internet to download all the episodes; or Tony Hawk 15, of course, which was rushed to production before they could finish it and the disc pretty much only contained the tutorial and the rest of the game was the 7gb day-one patch.

Got my physical copy of Yakuza 0 yesterday. Pretty awesome job Sega did on that launch day version. I still have Gravity Rush 2 from last week to open and play (showed up Friday with my Dragon Quest 8 3DS preorder)... but I think I'm going to give Yakuza my attention first.

SOMA is light on gameplay and is short. However, it has a creepy, at times terrifying atmosphere, and a very memorable and thought provoking story that will likely stay with you long after you've finished it.

If you're a trophy hunter, you'll get almost all of them from just finishing the game

I did a lot of exploring. I ended up missing 5 of the collectable coins and 4 files if that tells you anything useful. The game can be beat in under 3 hours if you know what you are doing.

I do plan on doing a speed run and a madhouse play through.

Ah, well I'm at 11:30 and I believe the end of the game is right around the corner. I do play super slowly though checking areas two and three times to see if I missed anything plus I retried a bunch during

the second Jack boss fight

but I'm not sure if retries count towards the total time. I know I did miss some collectibles so I'm going to reload a save, get those and beat the game again before doing an Easy speedrun. I have a feeling Madhouse is going to be a bit rough since there were some tough spots on Normal to me at least.

So I beat re7. It is not a very long game and is pretty linear, but it was a neat experience. I am not sure of any games that do what it did well. I would say rent it since lack of multiplayer means this will not hold price for too long.

Play time came out to 8:08'23'' so take that what you will. seems like an easy platinum too if you are into that.

Well, it's not quite like that. I've been buying things from PSN from the first days of the PS3, just not full retail games, only DLC and games that don't get released on disc. Without digital, there'd be plenty of indie games I'd miss out on as well as DLC, like the hundreds of Rock Bands tracks I have. But just because I buy some things digitally, I'm not going to deny the fact that they can be taken away from me without a moment's notice.

my complaint is it wasn't scary, it's way too easy to hide and there is so much ammo i never felt in danger, i played it on normal

i say it's a 7 - 8 out of 10

yeah, it was not scary and instead more like a campy horror film like Evil Dead. literally we gave the same rating.

People tend to discount Android and iOS games as if they aren't as good as console games because of their platforms, but I think the ports on those systems are often cheaper because the user base is potentially much larger. As many people as there are with PS3s, Vitas, PSTVs and PS4s, there are likely more who have Androids and iPhones. So, they can sell games for dirt cheap on phones because they could potentially make more money even by selling the games for less. But people should start looking at mobiles as worthy gaming devices because they're missing out. Honestly, I've played my Shield TV lately more than any other system and at least 50% of the games I own on it cost $1 or less. It's really neat.

There really are a lot of great games on mobile. And especially ports of mobile to console really aren't worth the extra money IMO. The only exception is when a F2P game is premium on console (cannot stand freemium). Then I am more interested.

There's also a lot of PC/console ports that work very well on mobile to the point where I again prefer cheaper.

Most of those are indies and not the AAA games but still....

But just because I buy some things digitally, I'm not going to deny the fact that they can be taken away from me without a moment's notice.

If you leave your home and come back and someone has broken in and stolen all of the games, it would give you an even worse feeling than your digital licenses going poof. There is no safe option... just do what you feel comfortable doing and live your life. At any moment it can all be taken away without notice.

Man, if PSN went down and my collection got instantly and irrevocably downsized I'd breath a deep sigh of relief. If I was lucky, Steam and gog would go down too, my physical collection would get raptured, and I could start fresh without the weight of backlog.

This is how I feel. Sure I'd be pissed... but... in a weird way it would be completely freeing. The backlog blues wouldn't be quite so big.

Also some fantastic deals to be had on the app stores (apart from the Everyday Low Prices). Premium games regularly drop for a day or two to $0.99 or even free.
