As mentioned that's basically already exactly what's happening on both platforms. Drawn to Death is pretty offensive to a lot of us because it was going to be F2P until about a week before it leaked that it was going to be PS+ this month. Even when the pricing model change was announced we were all puzzled why they were suddenly changing it when the game looked extremely mediocre to begin with and would need all the players it could get to survive. Then we found out.

I question how well PS+ and GwG does in propping up crappy multiplayer games. For every Rocket League, there's probably 10 others that people try once, delete it and move on.

But as others mentioned, Sony and MS surely get these games cheap and can be like "we're giving you a brand new game" for free -- masking the fact that they're largely shitty and most likely would have been F2P.

The devs love it because they at least know they're getting some of their investment back up front.

Oh well, not much we can do...

My mistake, I certainly didn't realize that until the more recent $19.99 announcement and think that wasn't clear for others either. Regardless they've been pushing this game at major events for at minimum two years now (though I want to say it's coming up on three) and most of that time were positioning it for the F2P market and gaining no traction in public opinion.

See Dead Star that was shuttered 7 months after launching on PS+, sounded like it was an OK game and had decent promotion by Sony even. I'm sure the publishers and studios that take these deals for those sorts of games are just hoping to become the next Rocket League and/or taking the guaranteed cash to stay afloat.

There's maybe one Rocket League per generation, so that's probably too high of a bar to hold every other game to in terms of quality.

Announced at PSX 2014, so it's at 2.25 years. It got no traction at all from the alpha, so this is the only shot it'll ever have at developing an audience.

It's a Sony-published game, so of course they're invested in it.

When I played the alpha, it was a decent game that was dragged down by the lack of players. I'm talking about single digits at all times that I tried (morning, afternoon, evening, weekday, and weekend), so even wanting to make a video to show it off was kind of impossible because there was no guarantee I could get into a decent match.

The writing on the wall about Drawn to Death being a Plus game has been there for a couple months for me. It was announced back in February that the game would release on April 4th (a Plus release date), and it just fit the narrative of it converting from a F2P game to a traditional game so it could fill a space in the Plus lineup. 

I'm not looking forward to it at all, but other than a quick shrug, I'll survive with it being one of the 72 games we get on Plus this year.

I should have edit that but the characters have a creativity of a middle schooler with too much time on their hands but with the over the top blood splatters and body parts flying like it's a rough draft for DOOM. It has the awkward transition of a teenager. Not exactly kiddy yet not fully adult either.

It's...different and unique in that aspect.

When I've bought it in the past (before growing tired of being frustrated by sports games) I always went physical because I could trade and rebuy it at a profit multiple times during the season. That's me though and I would never feel compelled to touch an outdated sports game and would like to at least get something back from it when I'm done.

I've done both in the past and am going digital this year. But I am a baseball freak and after seeing everything they've done this year it all came down to wanting to play at midnight and knowing I would probably wear the disc out. I play every sports game every year and feel that The Show puts everything else to shame. If you are just a casual fan than physical may be the way to go especially if BB or Prime is an option since you can get it cheaper as well as being able to trade it in if you lose interest.

Whatever you decide, keep in mind that Modnation Racers is one of the hardest trophies to platinum (if that's your thing.) One trophy requires you to get 250k Create XP points. You get these by other players online downloading your creations. A LOT. So your trophy is dependent on other players.

I've done both in the past and am going digital this year. But I am a baseball freak and after seeing everything they've done this year it all came down to wanting to play at midnight and knowing I would probably wear the disc out. I play every sports game every year and feel that The Show puts everything else to shame. If you are just a casual fan than physical may be the way to go especially if BB or Prime is an option since you can get it cheaper as well as being able to trade it in if you lose interest.

When I've bought it in the past (before growing tired of being frustrated by sports games) I always went physical because I could trade and rebuy it at a profit multiple times during the season. That's me though and I would never feel compelled to touch an outdated sports game and would like to at least get something back from it when I'm done.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm going to go with the standard physical. Then if I get hooked on Diamond Dynasty I'll know to get the more expensive edition next year.

There are about 20 servers online right now, which is pretty good for late on a weekday night for a nearly 10 year old game.

wow I'm so happy to hear that, warhawk was my 2nd game for ps3 and I remember playing it like crazy for the entire year it released. I still can't believe they didn't do a regular sequel instead of starhawk. I also still use that Bluetooth that came with the game on my ps3.

It says in the PSN title for the game "PS3 Only" so that's what I'm going with.

I should have edit that but the characters have a creativity of a middle schooler with too much time on their hands but with the over the top blood splatters and body parts flying like it's a rough draft for DOOM. It has the awkward transition of a teenager. Not exactly kiddy yet not fully adult either.
