Might I suggest you look at Portal Knights? Comes out towards the end of the month and seems like a generic DQ Builders but with couch and online co-op. It's been on early access on Steam and gotten good reviews and there's a demo on the consoles which looked great and I thought was fun enough to push me in to a purchase even just as the tutorial world. It's going to be $20 on PSN but there's also a $30 disc option which comes with a $10 GC at BBY.
Thanks, that looks really interesting, I will check it out.

At least nice to see some more demos lately. Hope the trend grows.
Speaking of demos... the Prey demo really turned me off. But now that some of you have mentioned the Bioshock vibe I may have to Redbox it or grab it on Black Friday for a campaign run.

Didn't turn me off but honestly still wish it had been a sequel or even a remake of the original Prey. Loved that game and would rather have had something like it over a Bioshock-ish game.

Funny though, a bunch of games I probably would have waited on after learning more - Prey and Mass Effect Andromeda in particular -- I'm getting anyway because of the Best Buy Visa Checkout deals. Undecided on whether that's a good or bad thing.

To those of you who actually play your backlogs, does a game's length = worth to you?
Are you guys comfortable with spending $40-$60 on a game you know is going to be short? I'm just curious what other people's opinions are on the subject. To me, it really depends on the game and how short is short exactly. The type of game may also matter a bit as well.

Also, I've been playing the Uncharted collection I bought in the flash sale a few weeks back and enjoying the hell out of these games for the first time. So good. Just found a copy of 4 on Amazon for $22 so I'm pretty excited about that.

At my age, with the limited gaming time I have, a long game is actually a detriment. My "sweet spot" is somewhere around 8-10 hours. I feel like at 8-10 hours the game can be fresh and tell a story the whole time. My backlog at this point is just so huge, and I want to play so many of them. I'm playing Persona 5 right now, because I hadddd to. But that means my entire backlog has just been sitting there, for a month. As much as I love the game, I'll be so glad to move on to something else after I finish it (this weekend.)

So in short - no, if the experience and gameplay and the effort that went into the game is worth $60, it's worth $60. Hours of content don't affect the enjoyment of the art of gaming. To me.

Why did I think Alienation was free this month? I thought, for the first time ever, I was getting a PS+ game that i would enjoy, play.

meh.

this exactly, the last 3 games i have played are persona 5, mass effect andromeda and horizon zero dawn. that is pretty much all i have played this year (since horizon came out)

Alienation was free for the EU, I believe.
awwwwwwwwww

Dead Nation on hardest difficulty was so much fun for couch coop. This looks like that, but different world, perhaps fresher, too.

Stupid ps+ grumble grumble grumble ...

I tend to look at a lot more than just a game's length. If we're talking about a 1-2 hour game with no real replayability, then I generally won't go over $5 for it . If we're talking about a 8-10 hour SP campaign with a story I enjoy and I find fun to play, I have no problem going $40-$60, especially since I'll probably play it more than once. If it's an average length SP game (to me that's sub 15 or so) that I have interest in, I might go ahead and get it at release, play the heck out of it for a week, then trade it in for $30-$40. If I liked it enough and want to play it again, I'll buy it when it goes on sale for dirt cheap.

I generally only spend $40-$60 on new physical releases (esp. if they have a steelbook) of games that I either want to support, even if I don't get around to playing them for a while (such as The Witcher 3), games that I want to play right away and will probably trade in very quickly so the money out of pocket is minimized, or games that I know I'll love and plan to keep. Just about anything else I'll wait to get when it goes on sale for cheap. I have plenty of games in my backlog to play while I wait.

To me, it's more about when I will actually play the game instead of the length. I am fine buying a new release if I'm actually going to play it right away. With my backlog, I have more games to play than time to play them, so I try not to buy a new release unless it's going to be played right away. Old me would have bought ME: Andromeda, PE5, probably Nier, et al. Instead, I am playing Horizon and loving it. When I'm done with that, I might buy another game, or I might check out something from the backlog.

Like others have said before me, since becoming a 'fully-functioning adult' time is often a *limiting* factor.

I was never one drawn in by the "80+ Hours of Gameplay!" taglines that some games tout. Replayability was somewhat of a factor, once upon a time, but that's when I mainly played sports and fighting games so it's kinda just built-in. In general, I'd like a tight 8-12 hour campaign (which might take me closer to 20 :/ ). Games like Alan Wake, Batman Arkham Asylum, Danganronpa, Zero Time Dilemma are examples of that 'right length' to me.

Also, in the last few years, two significant things have happened in my gaming life: 1) I've moved to primarily PC and handheld only, 2) I've accepted that I cannot join the zeitgeist of every game I'm interested in, so it behooves me to simply not buy games at launch and avoid the $40-$60 price range entirely. I can pick up a game several months later for half he price or less and not have to make the 'time to price' value comparison at all.

Now, I say this as I am currently 80+ hours into my launch day copy of Persona 5 and I'm not even halfway done. There are exceptions to every rule and I've granted myself 1-3 games a year where I *do* try to grab the zeitgeist and give a 'day 1' type purchase. Last year it was Zero Time Dilemma, the year before that, NBA 2K, and before that, Madden and Huniepop. All of those got dozens of hours and/or (near) full trophies.

So theoretically, I would have no problem with $40-$60 for a sub 15 hour SP game. However, practically, I seldom run into that case anymore as I'm content to wait for a drop out of that price range anyway. *shrugs*

I'm trying hard not to buy stuff on release I wont play....messed that up with Nier:A, as I was still playing Yakuza 0...and still am...took a break...close to end...like 4 chapters left I think.

My lone exception is new Vita games I want....which is pretty much just Mary Skelter and Utaware games.....and that's it honestly. Vita games are getting a bit harder to get for decent prices after release (except iffy, but Mary Skelter is a high want game). PS4 games can wait. I know I will play Horizon some day, or other releases for sure...but they can wait. Persona 5 couldn't wait, but that was an exception.

All the DLC for Gladiator Begins is also free: https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-us/games/gladiator-begins/cid=UP1024-ULUS10528_00-GBPSPGAME0000100%3AADD-ONS

But... it can't be downloaded directly to the Vita. Does anyone know if it is possible to get the DLC onto a Vita/PSTV? I'm guessing the only possible way would be to download to a PS3 and then transfer to a Vita from there, but I'm not sure if that works for PSP DLC or not.
I have to check this out when I get home.

It depends on the game. If the game is under 20 hours then I see little reason to pay 60$ for something you could beat in a rental period. Of course I have more games in my backlog than I have time to play them and I'm lucky if I finish more than 12-16 a year. Granted they are rpgs so they tend to run longer than the average game does.

Bloons TD 5 is great fun, as good as Pixel Junk Monsters and the Android version is constantly adding new things.

But it was on sale for FREE on Android a few weeks ago.

Yeah, I wish I was a child now VS. when I was, as my son has endless time mostly to play games, but due to so many choices, he rarely if ever finishes any of them. LOL So I guess there are pluses and minuses to everything.

Having limited time, I like shorter games, but cost can be a factor when it comes to length as well. I thought Limbo on the 360 was a great game and experience when I first played it, but I thought it should have been slightly cheaper due to the time it lasted. I've since bought it many times again at cheaper prices for other systems, and it it's still great, and I showed support by buying it more than a few times, as I couldn't pass it up for the lower cost.

I rarely ever buy games full price any more, as I just don't get to games that fast, so I'll probably get a game like Uncharted 4 or Zero Dawn for $20 or less when I finally buy those games, or get them free in a bundle. So I mostly don't buy games for $60, as they are going to sit, and byy the time I do play them, I've lost $40 in the time it's sat on the shelf.

But for a game like Zelda, where I know I'll play it for awhile, and get the time out of it right now, the $60 price tag is cool. It all just depends on the game, and if I really want to play it now instead of later. But I'm not likely going to pay $60 for a 10 hour game, unless it is beyond AMAZING.

Game length hasn't been a factor in whether I buy a game or not. The closet to that is game bundles feel like they have more value because they include multiple games; Metro Redux, Bioshock Collection, Devil May Cry HD Collection.

With $40 to $60 games what I consider is if I'm going to play them right after I buy them. Resident Evil 7 and Persona 5 are on the other ends of the spectrum when it comes to game length, but I bought both at launch because I knew I would play them as soon as I got them.

It seems silly to pay more than $40 for a game if it will most likely go straight into my backlog. If I'm going to play it some time later then I might as well buy it some time later at a cheaper price. The most I'd pay for a game that I know will go straight into my backlog is $20. $25 if it's a Complete Edition. And that'd have to be what seems to be a great game. Games that look okay I'll get them if they reach $10.

It's worth pointing out I've only bought six retail games on their release dates this gen. It's easy for me to overlook length when most of my games were under $20.

So what are the chances Gravity Rush 2 goes out of print before it hits 29.99 or lower at retail for the physical copy? They it on sale for 41.32 plus tax at Amazon right now. I am currently not a PS Plus member so would cost me more for the digital copy and I am more inclined to owning physical. So any thoughts if Gravity Rush 2 will hit 29.99 or 19.99 before going out of production? I know Gravity Rush Remastered went out of print but was a amazon exclusive.

Is there a weekend sale going on that is different than the tues. update? Or just EU?

Horizon zero is on sale in eu this weekend

GRR & GR2 are two different things in regards to print size and possible demand. GR2 is probably one of the more well made PS4 games, and was probably produced to reflect the overall interest it can have long term. GRR was only made to give those a chance to play it who may have missed out the first time around, or who wanted to play it on the big screen.

I don't think GR2 will go OOP anytime soon, but there is no way to know how much has been produced, or how long those will last. I bought Bayonetta 2(two disc set) on sale at GS for $30 I believe, when it was already sold out most places, and GS would have sold out soon as well, but they had a sale, and I took advantage of it. But only a few stores in my town even had it at the time, and I probably lucked up and got the only sealed one for sure.

All you can do is keep an eye on it, and see when stores stop having it, and then buy when it looks like your chance may disappear.

Amazon had exclusive rights to the physical release of Gravity Rush. I assume they were allotted a number of copies, and once they ran out there wasn't any more pressings to follow up.

It's unlikely GR2 will suffer the same fate. It's a game developed specifically for PS4 and not a port of a Vita game. They had a marketing campaign for it and have had cross promotion for it with games like NieR just recently. GR2 will for sure continue to be available for a long while.

Trying to decide whether or not to pay for a month of PS Plus for this sale. I only have a PS TV, so probably picking up Persona 4 and SteinsGate. That'll save me $5. Anything else I need to get?

I'd say MeiQ cause it's super cheap and alright....only if you are craving a dungeon crawler though.

I got really lucky. PS plus expired the day after the May games went live. Now I basically get 2 months for "free" since I don't have to sign up until the end of June to get those games. I know I don't get to play online, but I don't even do that anymore.

I should probably finish The Witcher 3 now.

Is the Division worth it for someone who has zero (and I mean zero) experience with online squad stuff.  I'm interested in the game but feel like I'm too far behind in the learning curve.

It has a decent amount of single player stuff....it's pretty generic IMHO, but it's alright. I left the game before the DLC came out so can't comment on that.

I have a vita and gravity rush, but still feel like playing remastered on the ps4!

Gravity rush 2 seems to be way better than the original?

I have $15 psn credit, which I might just buy gravity rush with. Game seems to be hard to find and overpriced since low stock.

I have $50 in amazon credit, still not sure if I should save it for a later game. You think Gravity Rush 2 will go lower than $36 in the next 1-2 months? Assuming this game has way more stock than the first and not out of print anytime soon.

Remind me, are there usually multiple weeks for the Golden Sale?
It's a one week sale.

It's a good solo game, if that's what you're asking. You just missed the Free Weekend to try it out for yourself, but the demo should still give you a taste.

Bought Gradius V, Ys Memories of Celceta (Xseed never seems to do 75% off), and the Soldner games (the last two at the recommendation of CAGs even though the reviews aren't great).

I want Gravity Rush Remastered, but I think I'll hold out for 75% off even though I'm eager to play it so I can open my copy of the sequel. Also considered Persona 4 Golden, but I have the PS2 version and I'm not sure there's enough story content to justify an upgrade (haven't played either version yet).

P4 golden is MUCH MUCH better- the interface is better, a new playable character I think and lots of small improvements make it the definitive version
