Games, music, and movies are limited too. It's just that technology has advanced enough that it upends traditional business models - PC games in particular rely more or less on an honesty system. If it was possible to download cars, say you can use 3D printers to make a car based on infringed copyrights from car manufacturers, doesn't that hurt those companies? Who would buy a car if that was the case?

Just wanted to say Hi. I'm a recent PS4 owner and looking for input on a game to get to highlight this new gen system. Is bloodbourne good for that? Also looking at possibly far cry primal...

I'm enjoying a lot of the indie games I've gotten like rogue legacy and nuclear throne but I still feel like I haven't seen what the new system can do...
If you haven't played it on the old gen or PC get Sleeping Dogs, man that game is a bang for your buck

My first thought is this. Do you have a local library? Check to see if they have ps4 games. I was surprised to find out mine has all the big titles there. So check that out and see what you like. If you don't you can try gamefly 1 month trial.

I had a fun but challenging time with Bloodborne. It is not for everybody which is why I am hesitant to tell anyone to buy it.

I would say the first thing you should do is get 12 month PS Plus for online and the "free" monthly games. If you can get it before tuesday then you can get this months games still and next months on tuesday. If you do we can co op Helldivers( which is one of the PS4 games for February) if you want. Just add me on PSN. psn id in sig below.

PS4 Tomb Raider....is it worth getting for me?

I really got in to Uncharted but ultimately it was the story and set pieces that drew me in. I initially hated it from the demo.

I never played any TR until I played the PS3 remake of the original PS1 TR and was underwhelmed and never got past 2 levels (but I had already experienced the gameplay and style of Uncharted 1-3).

For comparison of puzzle and platformer type games, I find God Of War impossible and so never finished it (yes, I'm horrible) but will do everything necessary to try and find every skill point and secret in Ratchet and Clank.

Everyone raves about this TR version.  Should I get it then?

haha if you have the money to make your own car then more power to you. As for the manufacturers part they are already not getting any money out of used sales or if you build your own car but that's neither here nor there.

The story of Tomb Raider is terrible. Same for most of the characters. The rest of the game is fine, though the gunplay is bad.

It's totally fine for you to stay away from it if it's not the genre for you.

It's totally not fine for people to be illegally downloading it.
They need to bring back demos. This would curb piracy tremendously.

A lot of people just want to try out the game and then go on to buy the retail version, which includes updates, online etc. Sure, some pirated copies of games can also be updated, but it is a pain in the ass to do so.

Last game I "pirated" was Watch Dogs when it came out. SOOOO glad I did otherwise I would have fallen for the hype and been out $60. It was deleted that same day.

The point is, after so many gamers have been screwed by most major game companies, most of us just don't trust them. They lie. They steal and they rip us off.

Pirate Witcher, Stanley Parable or Divinity, for example, you're a jerk.

Pirate the latest EA, Ubisoft, WB or Gearbox because you're concerned you might get screwed .... I have no problem with that.

Demos would curb piracy numbers.

And the scene isn't as black and white as some might make it seem.

wow turning to insults like a child. I didn't realize I was on gfaqs. Besides that the conversation getting stupid doesn't show a lack of understanding so your insult fails to even hit the mark :nottalking:
Nothing you say has made a valid point as to why what I said or quoted is stupid. You clearly can't read.

There's a load of numbers out there saying that's not the case. Everything I've ever seen shows zero connection between piracy and demos and a strong correlation between demos and a negative impact upon sales.

WAIT THIS IS IMPORTANT!

Was Tomb Raider free at some point on PS3? Is that the same one that's on sale just with less pixels or polygons or whatever we measure?

I might already own it. Is TR Digital (PS3) the same essential game as TR Definitive (PS4)?

You could play it to see if you want the PS4 version. It doesn't run well on PS3, so I'd suggest getting it on PS4 for that reason alone.

That is a good idea. But, I think I'm realizing that if I haven't played a game I've had free for nearly two years, then I probably shouldn't pay money to not play on two different consoles.

I disagree. I can honestly say I've pirated games to demo them and see if they are worth buying. I can't be the only one in that category.

I'm also curious as to who is providing those numbers ... My gut tells me it's companies who have a vested interest not to release demos and villainize those who pirate games.

Companies would rather spend mad money on marketing, including paying Lets Play YouTube celebrities to "play," stream their games, but not say anything negative about them, than to provide a downloadable demo.

Why? Because once you pay $59.99 + tax and open that game, it's yours. No returns. They made their money.

Even worse, some companies put out a sick demo (Aliens) and release a crap product.

What am I saying?

When there is that much lack of trust between the people who make games and the people who play them, it doesn't surprise me one bit that piracy is a thing.

Demos would curb piracy.

quick Q;

the FF10/10 2 bundle they have for Vita, is that because both games were separate or is it something about crossplay?

how does the vita port fair between the PS3/4 offerings and if so with PS4, did they improve the Vita's remote play because that was always never working for me, slow and unresponsive.

Steam now has a return policy. I can't imagine there's a ton of piracy on PS4 & Xbone so you must be talking about PC.
Yea and I think that's really awesome. I also think it might have a little to do with the massive number of indie or greenlight games they have, too.

Too bad consoles don't have the same policy.

How many of those games that you've pirated have you actually bought? My guess is a statistically insignificant amount.

Any time a dev or publisher talks about this they indicate that their metrics show that trying a game rarely converts to a sale. If demos lead to sales and prevented piracy wouldn't every game have a demo?

the problem is, most demos are from at least the last E3 or before that. those demos are tailor made to not show the flaws the final game will have. i've played a few games that i said "i wish this had a demo like god of war did back in the day" because the final product was terrible and GoW demo was ripped straight from the finished game and was also a good game.

if anything, E3 really should be open to the public for a few days, at least 3 so they can get some feedback from the people they will be selling their game to maybe and fix things? but nah, that would be too much work. E3 is for business and those conferences we watch and demos we don't get to play are all part of sales and numbers. funny thing, go watch an older E3 conferences, about 2000-2004 or so, its half new trailers and such and half business numbers and such.

also, go watch the half life 2 tech demo. i wish i could watch more stuff like that, its nice to see the stuff behind the scenes that we never get to hear about.

NON-PIRACY DISCUSSION:

I'm thinking about buying either Final Fantasy Origins, 3, 4 Complete, or 5. You guys usually have good opinions on games so I need some help choosing.

I loved FF6 and FF9, both the battle systems and story were fantastic

I liked FF12, story was pretty good and the battle system was different

I thought FF7 was alright, maybe all the nostalgia hype ruined it for me as I didn't play it until the PS2 era.

I hated FF8, the battle system was grindy as hell and Squall was too annoying to be redeemed by the rest of the story.

Any recommendation on which one to get?

EDIT: Separate question, Legend of Mana worth checking out or does it feel inferior to the FF series?

Go for FF4.

A concern of the F B I (explained to me over 10 years ago) is that other countries would mass produce/resell games/movies/etc and it would fund terrorism. It is bad when you have soldiers/contractors/tourists/etc in certain countries buying bootleg copies of movies/games, and not realizing they could possibly be funding a terrorist. Sounds far fetched but it is reality. I'll stick with buying my entertainment legitimately, less problems (not that I still don't have any problems, I could make a boring movie about it).
That's as silly as rhino horn funding terrorism! Except... Rhino horn really does
I found this article on the Iranian Gaming Industry interesting, particularly the part where the government funds an organization that is basically selling licenses to pirate AAA western games. If you further believe that Iran is a state sponsor of terrorism, it isn't too hard to draw a line between "pirating" (albeit an extremely specific subset) and "terrorism."
Just saying.

BTW: The above linked Polygon article is actually pretty a good read.

4 is very good. re: Origins, 1 is the least polished and most primitive obviously. Not bad just old. 2 is weird, I think, regarding leveling up spells.

Just buy them all. You'd have the complete set. I do.

Get them on other platforms if you have the option.

Depends on what you're into. Driveclub looks great as a driving game. GTAV, Batman: Arkham Knight, The Witcher 3, and Battlefront are great looking third-party games.
Driving games are out for me. The problem I have with open world games is that I get bored with them and the directionless side quests distract me too much till I get overwhelmed. Only the far cry games hold my interests in open world games.

I loved dark souls and 100% completed it on the 360 so bloodborne is a good candidate.

This is your monthly reminder to remind you to grab all the PS Plus games since you only have today and tomorrow to do it. Even grab the ones for systems you don't have by logging into the psn store website.

At the rate I am playing Witcher 3 and now with Uni picking up again, it will take me months to beat this game.

FF 4 is my favorite Final Fantasy, so I would suggest that. 5 is pretty good too, less so on the story, but has a good job system. Legend of Mana was fun back when it first released (first of the summer of square games, lol) but I don't know if it holds up. It's a different style of game to FF so I wouldn't really compare the two.

So tomb raider DE or Sleeping Dogs DE for ps4?
Not sure which is a better deal, which is better?

Tomb raider is $8,Sleeping Dogs is $10.
