Thanks poster! Where are these coming from? I was able to get 2 of the posts.

These PSN download speeds are killing me. Half an hour to download a 150mb file? When are they going to acknowledge and remedy this problem? Who is even downloading stuff at this time on a weekday?

No, it doesn't make sense no matter whose head it's in.

Gift cards and reward certificates aren't free. I can't buy gift cards and pay with only gift cards and come out with no money spent.

And you're likely one of the people who count stuff like reward certificates twice. "I got a $10 reward certificate and 20% off, so it was $38." followed by "It's $50 cause I had a $10 rewards certificate."

And you can't apply discounts selectively. You can't go, "I can use the rewards certificate only towards the PSN credit, but not towards the physical edition."

It doesn't work that way. None of it works that way.

Edit: In the REAL world, you have 25% off digital and 20% off physical.
No, I look at it like this.

I get the GCU 20% off which makes the game $48 (before taxes) then take the $15 off the $48 making it $33 (Once again before taxes).

So all I would be paying for the physical edition is $33, plus tax making it $35... which is close to 42% off

As for the discount mistake, when I made the original post.... I honestly forgot I could use the $15 reward cert on both since I was more focused on the digital version at the time period... which is why in the follow up message I brought up that I would use it toward both. Seriously it escaped my mind for a moment.

As for the digital version, I was figuring in the $15 PSN return, + the $15 Reward Cert which is already $30 off (50%, which is why I said 50% off) and whatever discount I get for buying 2 SONY PSN Cards (At minimum it'll be $28 for $30 in Sony Cards/Network). Along with the fact the digital purchase does not charge tax in my state, so I will be paying a total of $28 for a $60 game.

(There are multiple ways this purchase can be done but I would still only be paying $28 out of pocket for the digital version. Though I have to wait for the $15 return from PSN on July 5th. Also by buying larger denominations from BestBuy I get a larger savings on the two cards, but that cannot be directly applied to this purchase since it will cost more than said purchase of the game.)

(Digital Purchase Examples:

Game is $60 and I already have $15 coming from the PSN Rebate/Refund on July 5th, making the game $45.

I can buy 2 x $20 PSN Cards for $36 - $15 Reward Cert making it $21, and I'd still have to pay $5 on PSN to pay off the game. In total I'd be spending $26 out of pocket with the certs.

I can buy 2 x $10 PSN Cards for $18 - $15 Reward Cert making it $3, and I'd still have to pay $25 on PSN to pay off the game. In total I'd be spending $28 out of pocket with the certs

I can buy a $20 and a $10 in PSN Cards for $28 - $15 making it $13, and I'd still have to pay $15 on PSN to pay off the game. In total I'd be spending $28 out of pocket in certs.)

I put the 20% vs 50% in the original post to give a rough estimate of what I would be saving either way without going into the exact numbers which I outlined above. Once again, I seriously forgot I could use the $15 on the physical on my initial post.

Oh, off topic, thank you for making me show the math. I just realized the 2x$20 is the best purchase path if I just want to get the game digitally.

And yes, you can pay the entirety of a game card with a gift cert, as long the values are even. You however can't purchase something penny cheaper and use a cert without paying more.

Unless you somehow got a promo for $15 back for spending $60, still no.

Cimson Gem Saga ... man I remember that game. It was hard as hell. If you didn't get a sneak attack before battle, you would often die. Lot of grinding, very OK.

I doubt anyone was wondering, though.
I plan to get Crimson Gem Saga eventually... probably when it hits $5 or less so I can just throw it in the backlog without second thought. Thanks for the feedback. I actually don't mind grinding, especially when I can grind extra to make a game easier.

If you try to redeem a code and get an error at the very end, try logging out of PSN and back in again. I had something like that happen with a purchase earlier today, and doing that fixed it.

You do know what's going on PSN right?

Between June 13th and June 21st, if you spent $100 on PSN you were rewarded $15.

That's where the 2nd $15 is coming from.

However, that $15 will not be awarded till July 5th, so I have to wait till then to finalize this purchase.

(Details can be found here https://www.playstation.com/en-us/legal/spend-100-get-15-terms-and-conditions/ )

AKA I make the Best Buy purchase right now, and hold the money in my account until I receive the $15 on July 5th.

I even showed the math on the post above.

(Digital Purchase Examples:

Game is $60 and I already have $15 coming from the PSN Rebate/Refund on July 5th, meaning I still owe $45.

I can buy 2 x $20 PSN Cards for $36 - $15 Best Buy Reward Cert making it $21, and I'd still have to pay $5 on PSN to pay off the game. In total I'd be spending $26 out of pocket with the certs.

I can buy 2 x $10 PSN Cards for $18 - $15 Best Buy Reward Cert making it $3, and I'd still have to pay $25 on PSN to pay off the game. In total I'd be spending $28 out of pocket with the certs

I can buy a $20 and a $10 in PSN Cards for $28 - $15 Best Buy Reward Cart making it $13, and I'd still have to pay $15 on PSN to pay off the game. In total I'd be spending $28 out of pocket in certs.)

Hopefully that makes quite a bit more sense.

I don't really feel like we need to argue about/justify how we calculate discounts. Personally, I don't care how you guys calculate your discounts as long as I am happy with my discounts.

Very true, and while I admit I am crazy and can be ignorant and naive.. I'm not stupid.

It just felt like he was missing the key point that ontop of the $15 Best Buy Rewards cert, I am also getting $15 back from Sony on July 5th.

Though in the end, if you're happy with your discount.. that's all that matters.

As I said the whole discussion started because I was debating between Physical and Digital.

Glad it's not just me. NFS Rivals has been downloading for like three days now.
When the download stalls out / slows down, pause the download, wait a few, then resume the download. Often that will speed up the download, but it may stall out again and/or take a few tries to get it to speed up. I have had mixed results with this, but usually it gets it moving at a somewhat acceptable rate.

I never owned a PSP so I've been looking at the RPGs that pop up on occasion in the sales. Good to hear I can cross that one off my interest list. Any input on Class of Heroes or Growlanser?

I've had to do this, but it seems to only occur on one of my systems.

Something else that can help with download speeds on PS4/PS3/Vita is manually setting your DNS to Google's public DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

Are both/all systems on the same network, using the same Google DNS, but only one has slowdown?

One of my PS3s and my PS4 are both wired to the same bridge. My PS3 usually downloads at a decent pace. My PS4 seemed to have decent download speeds (and no stalling) until about a month or two ago. Maybe after an update? Dunno.

Crimson Gem Saga is actually pretty good. It's tough if you don't know how the battle system works - namely, that you can extend your attacks sometimes when the button prompt pops up. It's very easy to miss if you're not looking for it. There are also some helpful items that are easy to miss unless you're an old school player who explores every nook and cranny. I remember finding a hidden chest with like 50k gold in it that helped me buy much-needed gear. Otherwise, you're at a disadvantage.

Growlanser is pretty unique but this isn't the best entry in the series. If you have a PS2, that compilation by Working Designs is great.

Yeah, both are on the same network and running through Google DNS. I only notice it on that one, since the other I generally let it download while in standby, but don't think I've seen slowdowns when looking. The problematic one has some other issues on its own though - won't stay in standby and will fully power down after a random hours of standby.

Where I'm from, $60 isn't the same as $100.
Yea. but the $100 was spent last week, on Tuesday infact, it's not that I'm going to be spending $100 more, it's the fact I've already spend it and the $15 rebate for spending that can be/is being put toward that $60 Purchase.

Kind of how the $15 in Reward Certs are from previous purchases at Best Buy, it's the same kind of concept.

Both are discounts/rebates/rewards for making past/prior purchases to be spend on upcoming purchases.

I didn't spend the $100 last week for the rebate, and didn't even know about it when I made the initial purchases nor did I make the purchases at BestBuy for the reward cert/pre-order bonus, I did it because I was interested in the games/items and I got the GCU Discount.

(though I admit when I found out about the deal, I bought a $4 DLC to make sure I passed the $100 Threshold)

It's quite stupid spending $100 just to get $15 back, it's another thing if you're generally interested or intent on making those purchases.

(What I bought on PSN was MKXL, Watch Dogs GOLD, Infamous Second Son, Alien Isolation, Battlefield 4, Disney Infinity 3.0, Shadows of Mordor GOTY, South Park Stick of Truth, and Stick of Truth DLC. They all were for the E3 sale. Best Buy's points were from Overwatch)

I've noticed many things on PSN are slow as heck, even purchases and etc are taking a few minutes to hours to show up on my account.

Like I redeemed a code earlier today, and it's not shown up on my download list yet.

should I get parasite eve? never has an original PS1 but the main character always interested me ;)

And should I get FF7 + 9? I have only played like the very original FF titles.

and these will definately sit for awhile until im ready to play them on my vita.

I'm not sure how well a game like Parasite Eve would hold up for someone who has no built up nostalgia. For a few bucks I say why not, but I can't say I'm confident you'll love it. It's best trait, and one that is still such a rare occurence in RPGs, is that it takes place in a modern setting. You almost never see that.

FFVII and FFIX are good to go. I'm assuming 50% off is their bottom, so if that's the best discount they go for then no harm in buying them now to save for later.

I remember liking Parasite Eve's turn based system where you attack body parts and stuff. Plus you have guns.....should be an instant buy. #2.....I never played but heard it was like old school Resident Evil games with tank controls and RPG leveling up mechanics....your choice on that one, but I liked Parasite Eve way back when. I liked it more than some games people were crazy about, like that one S-E RPG where you can attack different body parts, but it's melee. Forget the name now, but was a PS1 game.

Vagrant Story? I love that game.

Yeah Parasite Eve does have a lot of similarities to early Resident Evil. So did Fear Effect. That was a very cool game for its time.

So, I was curious about Grand Kingdom, so i downloaded the demo, and wow am I surprised.

Went with no expectations into the game and kinda loving the art style and the battle system, very complex but sweet.

I had asked this on the Playstation 2 board.... but does anyone know the ampage and voltage on a PS2 Power cord?

I went to hook up my PS2 recently and found I have a bunch of cords that fit the system...

The two most common are

3A 125V

7A 125V

And I am not sure which to use, or which even is the one that goes with my system... and I am now worried about what I have hooked up to my PS3 and 4.. but that's just me over thinking the situation.
P.S. I was speaking of THIS TYPE of power cord

[attachment=22571:pS2Power.jpeg]

I am still trying to figure out which is the right one and I am curious as to what sort of risks I am looking at with the wrong one.

Vagrant story is such a great game if you dont mind some micromanagement

With either Ampage?
The reason I asked, site say 5A is the size I should have, but... I couldn't find it, and further went on to say any other is a fire hazard.

Eh, as I said over thinking.
Pretty sure it won't make a difference, but I suppose go for the 7A.
