This month's games are meh.
On some level, I liked last month's better. Mostly because I didn't enjoy Conan Exiles that much. It's not a BAD game though.
Have heard good things about The Surge as well.
These games would have made a good month for PS4 in the past, but they aren't nearly good enough to justify dropping the other 4 by any means.

To anyone who thought Skybound couldn't possible be a bunch of dicks about their physical releases like Telltale was... well, think again. Today marks the release of both the final episode of Telltale's The Walking Dead Season 4 and the physical reason of Season 4. Anyone with half a brain would think they would include all the episodes on disc if they were waiting until the exact same date as the digital release drops, right?

Nope!

The physical edition is a "Season Pass Disc" which includes the first three episodes and requires you to download the fourth episode. I knew Telltale would put out a Season Pass disc with just the first episode at the start of the series' releases, but this takes things to a whole new level of dickishness. What genius came up with this idea? So you can either buy the entire season digitally for $20 and play it without ever having to put a disc in your system, or pay $30 for the privilege of owning just the first three-fourths of the game on disc. I was willing to pay the $24 after GCU for the entire game on disc, but this crap is going back to Bestbuy tomorrow.
yeah, those season pass discs are pretty much pointless. since TT started doing that, i stopped buying their physical releases except for TWD Collection. now, i just wait for the digital versions to be heavily discounted or don't buy the games at all.

At least we can play our old PS3 games on PS4 thanks to backwards compatibility. Or take advantage of other intriguing services like Gamepass or EA Access or cross play.

oops.

yeah, that makes up for the fact that there hasn't been an exclusive worth a damn in nearly 3 years.

This isn't a console war. This is about taking things away or restricting choice.

Also, if you want to make it a console war, Sony was charging full price for those exclusives over the past three years while you can get play games like Forza Horizon 4 for virtually free with Gamepass trials or paying a dollar for a month's subscription. Again, this is not really the point, though. If Microsoft was killing Sony in the market, they would probably be restricting stuff like Sony is (or charging more, etc.). I have no loyalty to either company.

I guess now that they have weathered the backlash of taking 66% of the value from PS+ they can go back to giving a shit sandwich as the offerings.  I mean The Surge has been offered on sale at least once a month for the last half year or so and Conan is pretty poorly reviewed, good times.

As much as it behooves me to defend Sony, PSNow is essentially Game Pass+ now (it supports downloads to your PS4 for PS2/PS4 games to be played locally in addition to streaming)
However, it's twice the price of Game Pass per month ($20) though cheaper per year ($100 vs. $120). The game selection is MUCH larger for PSNow but most of it is streamed PS3 games, and the PS4/PS2 game selection is noticeably worse than Game Pass' imo. They also don't fire sale the subscription like MS does with their $1/month deals.

EA Access is supposed to be coming to PS4 soon-ish. And Sony is slowly doing crossplay (albeit not nearly as much or as quickly as they should).

All of this doesn't outweigh the shitty things they've been doing lately though.

Really hope that means Borderlands 3 is coming and it's not some shenanigans like Diablo Immortal.
It matches up with some leaks about BL3, and there's far too much effort put into it to be just a trailer for a mobile game.
As much of a charlatan and an idiot as he is, even Randy isn't THAT tone-deaf. I'm sure he'll still manage to find a way to fuck it up though.

Agreed. Gearbox would have to be COMPLETELY tone-deaf to treat things this way and do anything other than announce Borderlands 3 (or something very similar). Any side projects may be coming, but not like this.

To support this, stuff like Borderlands VR hasn't gotten this kind of teasing, so I sure hope this is consistent. Also, there are rumors of a Borderlands 1 remaster that probably are likely and won't get any real tease either.

PS Now is an OK service for what it is and has some benefits over Gamepass, however, PS Now isn't putting brand new releases on it like Gamepass (as far as I know). Gamepass isn't perfect either, though. And Microsoft is not killing it on first party stuff either, but Gamepass is giving new release stuff besides just MS games too.

The best hope that all of us should have for this situation (and almost anything else) is that companies like Microsoft and Sony WANT to compete with each other so they DON'T take stuff away or enhance the offerings they provide.

If ALL games on PS Now were downloadable, it would be an awesome service. I’d love to play all the PS3 games in it but I tried it and the streaming just wasn’t up to snuff. Some buffering and most definitely latency issues for button presses. I have a 200 MB internet connection and play 4K movies regularly with no issue, so it isn’t my internet either.

I’m suspicious of Google and Microsoft’s upcoming cloud gaming services as well. But as of now, PS Now just isn’t worth it due to the quality of the streams.

Yeah, I just can't imagine we're there yet with speed to be ready for this with Stadia or whatever MS has planned. I suppose if they've developed some great buffering or temporary download tech that keeps the game in RAM or similar that would work well, but I don't know what i'm talking about on this.

Glad I haven't played the Handsome Collection yet, those PS Pro enhancements releasing next week look great.  I still need to go back and get the Borderlands 1 plat on PS3, with already almost 100 hours on that, I don't think I'll get the remaster and play through it again.  Still awesome news no doubt.

I am SUPER pumped for all of the new Borderlands news today. Free ultra HD update for the Borderlands Handsome Collection, Borderlands 1 remaster with some great quality of life changes, and of course, Borderlands 3!

What are the quality of life changes for BL1? I know picking up ammo and loot was a little more tedious, so that would be nice.

PS Now is just amazing to me. Not in terms of software library or gameplay experience, but the technology is just simply impressive. When people say brick and mortar retailers are dead, Gamestop is in its last days, etc., they should be talking about something like PS Now. You don't have to buy anything, you don't have to download or install anything, you can just click on a game and start playing right away.

Of course, the experience isn't always as great as playing a game in full fiedlity, particularly if you're playing a fast action game or want the best graphics possible, but it's crazy how well it all works and that the tech is almost wasted on PS3 games.

Once your Internet speeds are over 50Mbps/s, that factor isn't as important as how close you live to the datacenter. Sony's are based in New York, and maybe elsewhere for west coast consumers. When Google and Microsoft jump into the fray for game streaming too, your proximity to their servers are the most important factor in determining your latency.

If what I read was true, they're adding a mini map similar to Borderlands 2. Improvements to the inventory system, such as marking things as junk or favoriting.

They're also adding character skins, and we'll be able to use shift codes for golden keys for free loot.

Not sure if they've improved looting ammo and money, but that would be great too. I forgot they changed it for BL2.

Anyone know if Borderlands Remastered will have a digital release, or is it just a physical exclusive through GS? It’s supposed to release 4/3.

Handsome Collection is $19 on PSN right now or $13.99/$14.99 at GS for physical. I was just in GS and the associate said a guy just bought 3 preowned copies, so expect the prices to go up.

Handsome Collection is still available new physically in stores.

EDIT: I'm an idiot and you stated that in your comment lol.. Reading fail.

I have been 1 trophy shy for many years. Never could get myself to grind to level 50. Now I don't have a ps3 anymore, maybe it's playable on PSNow? I'd love to finally get that plat.

I got the Borderlands plat in about a week, but I could never bring myself to get the DLC trophies for the Mad Moxxi expansion.  I remember attempting it with a couple of my friends back in the day and it was so long just to get the fastest of the trophies that I never bothered to go back for the rest of them.  Just wasn't worth it.

They did improve looting!
As well as some tweaks to the final boss based on player feedback.

There's no way it doesn't have a digital release. I think the point is that Gamestop has the exclusive on the physical release.

Guess boarderlands 3 will have a collector edition. Wonder what it will be.
Of course it will be a $400 combination CLPTRP lootbox combo with legendary skins that will be selling for $10 on clearance in a couple years.

Sale ended without me finding anything I REALLY wanted. There were a few DLCs that interested me but they were still too pricey.

What did everyone else get?

Ya I remember the other collectors edition lol.

I grabbed Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight, something I've had wishlisted for almost two years.

...and that's all! I'm trying to pace out my purchases this year so I can make some progress on my backlog.

I scooped Castlevania Harmony of Despair and all of the DLC for it. Very cool spin on Castlevania, even in single player.

if you guys want a physical copy of Borderlands Remastered and don't want to buy from GS, you can also get it from the 2K Store. shipping is only $2.

Castlevania HD + All DLC, Arizona Sunshine + DLC & Dead by Daylight DLC( Darkness Among Us)

I'm enjoying it a lot too. Good game

Best Buy has physical of PS4 handsome collection. It is not a GS exclusive
I think people are referring to Borderlands 1 remaster which is technically called Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition. It is only available in physical format at Gamestop or 2k store apparently.

I'm certain that I purchased a Borderlands GOTY version (BL1 with all DLC) specifically called this for Xbox 360, so I don't know why they are using the same exact name for a remaster.
