Crap was Castlevania being on sale a glitch? I know that it said it was on sale until january, and I didn't buy it because I figured I could do so later. Kind of miffed.

Shit, I shouldn't have hesitated. I heard the audio is bad in this version (music too quiet, sound effects too loud with no options to change), so I wasn't sure if I should get it since I have it on PSP.

Prior to Assassin's Creed Unity it seemed like every Assassin's Creed game eventually hit $10. Now it seems they hover in the 20-30 range and then disappear from deal lists. Is it realistic to hope for old-ass AC games to hit $10? Am I just missing something?

Just a guy who wants to put the cheap ass back into Assassin's Creed
Lol thats what I was waiting for, for the GE/CE to hit $10 or a bundle of the older ps4 games with dlc for @ least $20-$30. I doubt it after all this time also thought we'll get then with ps+ but nope. I can say the games are always on sale and that I'm far behind with AC2 being my last so I can care last about the series these day. I want PoP UBI

No one replied to my post about The Last of Us showing "Purchased" for me question, so I downloaded it. I thought it must be some kind of demo, since it said it was around 10 gigs(the game listing says 38), but I'm playing it now. Everything else downloaded after the main game, making it 39 gigs. I'm sure there's plenty of new PS4 owners who might be looking for a badass game, hopefully they get it to pop for them too and save $15.99. I'm curious if PSN will take away a game license due to a glitch? I was in on the Fallout 4 GOTY glitch for free on Xbox, and they revoked it. Wondering if I should burn through this quickly...

Goddamnit! I had Castlevania in my cart and was like "I'll grab this in a day or two when I'm not swamped in finishing up things before Christmas busywork" and they pull it. Oh well, back to waiting for it to go back to ten again, god only knows that the backlog is so massive I didn't really need it right this second.

New email from Housemarque's CEO:

A year ago, we announced that “arcade is dead”, at least for Housemarque, ending our long-standing commitment to creating arcade inspired games. Many thought that surely the studio must be in peril and that we’d be closing our doors soon, however this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Instead of shutting down we have made the jump to AAA development and are working on a new, unannounced IP. This is the biggest and most ambitious game that Housemarque has ever worked on. Our team is approaching 70 people now, and we are still staffing up for the new project. But our commitment to keeping the spirit of arcade alive is stronger than ever, despite no longer working on straight arcade-inspired titles. To further explain our stance here, let’s look back at what was happening a year ago…

Housemarque is very fortunate and grateful to have passionate fans that have supported us through more than two decades of arcade inspired and arcade hybrid games that lean heavily on fast-twitch gameplay. The development of our last “pure” arcade game, Nex Machina, took nearly three years and up to 30 man work years for the team that grew to almost 20 people at its peak. The critical reception was phenomenal. The game was one of the top 10 reviewed game of 2017 and achieved a spot in Guinness World Records as one of the most critically acclaimed twin-stick shooters of all time.

Commercially, however, the story is different. We have no regrets whatsoever about taking the risk, as it taught us a great deal and we had a chance to work with our hero, gaming legend Eugene Jarvis. We also had the opportunity to film the whole process from the initial design phase to launch, the result of which is the recently released documentary, “The Name of the Game”, which is available in online video stores such as iTunes, VUDU, Microsoft movies and TV, Amazon, Vimeo and Steam. Regional restrictions to services may apply and more services will be added to the list later.

Earlier this year we announced our new multiplayer-focused title, Stormdivers, which seemed to dismay our fans, as many thought that we were “jumping on the battle royale bandwagon”. However, we initiated this project back in early 2015 and started prototyping with a small team after finishing Alienation during the Summer of 2016. For a long time, we have wanted to explore PvP gameplay in “our” way and think that the game is shaping up great. But you don’t have to just take our word for it - you can participate in our closed beta tests now and eventually join the open beta next year by signing up at www.stormdivers.com.

A couple of years ago the future of the company did look uncertain. It looked like we should either scale down our development efforts significantly, letting go of great team members, or start thinking much bigger and ambitiously to survive beyond 2017. We had to make some difficult decisions and some serious changes or Housemarque would not be around for long. We wanted to continue making great games but first, we had to survive.

So, we started working on new, more ambitious concepts, but of course we had some challenges to face there as well. It took time to convince ourselves that we could be up to the task of developing a much bigger game than we have done in the past, as we were only around 50-people strong, working on two projects simultaneously. We knew this wasn’t enough people to create a AAA game, so we dug in and took the plunge. We started working on new, creative concepts to present to potential partners and eventually, we landed a great opportunity to start working on pre-production for a new, unannounced AAA IP last year. At the same time, we truly started to rethink our company culture. What is really needed to build up AAA game development capabilities, and how should we approach our overall development process and the future of the company.

Our purpose has stayed the same: to develop unique game experiences for our fans and create a great workplace for our employees. As we face new challenges, we have developed a new dialogue internally of what all of this means for the company. We want to continue to build an open culture where different voices are welcome, and people can express their creativity in a friendly and open environment. We are also actively recruiting more talent from all backgrounds and every corner of the world (interested in joining us? Check out housemarque.com/careers).

By the time we made our “Arcade is Dead” announcement, Housemarque’s change in direction had already been on its way for quite a while, as we could no longer sustain the company on our beloved arcade genres. Arcade is indeed dead for Housemarque, but we salute and applaud the developers out there who are keeping the genre alive with great new arcade experiences.

As for Housemarque, we are building both Stormdivers and our new AAA game on our strong foundations in understanding how to create great second-to-second gameplay experiences. You might say that we are actually jumping on two bandwagons, but our dedication is the same as always - we want to make great games. And we will always love arcade. So perhaps arcade is not completely dead - the spirit is still alive at Housemarque - but as everything must evolve, it is changing, and we dare say that you will still see elements of our love for arcade in future titles.

For now, we at Housemarque wish all of our wonderful fans a very happy holiday and a successful New Year. We are and always will be hard at work to keep your trust, and we are all looking forward to the great times ahead in 2019!

Makes sense to me. I bought Nex Machina (on sale of course) , played through it co-op once or twice, and then put it away.  Kept thinking, "Man, this would be awesome if there was more depth to it!"  I just don't see "getting a higher score" to be interesting gameplay, and clearly a lot of people agree.

That's the thing, that game was amazing to play - but chasing scores only lasts so long. We only really did that back in the day because we didn't have game depth, but we do now - and we kinda expect it. They almost got it right with Alienation (another great game) by going with the Diablo like gear progression and regular challenges, but then retreated back to the whole score chasing with their next games.

Yea, people always saying how great Nex Machina was, I bought it based on those recommendations and the high reviews overall. Didn't play more than 20 minutes of it. I really just didn't like how fast you move through areas with no way to return. You can accidentally shoot the goal like a second in and miss the entire little block.

Meanwhile, I played through DeadNation at least twice. *shrug*

Oh yeah I forgot about that game, I remember getting confused a little bit. I think it was similar to dead cells and deaths gambit.
It's not, really. In concept, yes - but the game plays more slowly and methodical like a Dark Souls game. Dead Cells is pretty fast moving (if you want to live) - more in line with Bayonetta (on high difficulty, of course) gameplay. However, Salt & Sanctuary is very much superior, in my opinion. The world is filled with dread and fantastic to explore. Dead Cells world is procedurally generated so it loses some character in that.

That's not to say I didn't like Dead Cells, which I did - it just felt more twitchy and quick - if that is your thing.

It’s funny, going through my wish list now and there’s a handful of games that are years old and have almost never been on sale according to the PSPrices website. As examples, take Everything, The Turing Test, and Nuclear Throne (PS4 version). Everything got a 20% preorder discount but has stayed steady since then. The other two appear to have been straight retail price since their release.

I wonder if the game creators just publish some games and forget about them afterwards, or what the collaboration process is with Sony when trying to offer/schedule a sale. If there are game devs on this forum with insight, is it just too much hassle for the possibility of an incremental sales bump?

Any other CAGs out here that have been (or still) waiting for sale prices for certain games? First world problems to be sure, but still frustrating as the wish list grows over time.

Braid on PS3. Someone said it has been on sale at some point in the past, but according to PSPrices it hasn't been on sale since it was released in 2009. It has remained in my wishlist since Sony added the wishlist feature on PSN.

The Witness has been on sale many times. Why not Braid, Jonathan Blow?

It was on sale for $1 during a PSN flash sale in 2014. I distinctly remember this because that's when I bought it :).

No way. Reilly has the best suit. C'mon, just try to kill me

Even though I like Dunst a lot, I thought she was horrible as MJ. She portrayed MJ as very vulnerable and meek. Comics MJ has always been headstrong and determined

There are a couple newer things I've been waiting to drop for a while, like Ikaruga and Dangun Feveron, but the one game I've been waiting for a sale on for the longest time so far is Fruit Ninja VR. Released exactly two years ago to this day and still not a single sale. Grrr...

Just looked up Ikaruga, and it sounds interesting. Thanks for sharing. Adding it to the wish list now, probably to languish with the other games that will never get a sale. What’s one more game to clog up the wish list, right?

It’s a shame that there’s not some sort of feedback mechanism for game developers in seeing how many times their game has been wish listed. Having that information could give them insight into buying patterns and price-points, both when the game is regularly priced and when it is on sale (particularly if the wish list could be programmed on Sony’s end to drop games off the list automatically once a user purchased them).

So i've uncovered my PSPgo and was about to set it back up and download all my old RPG's i've purchased over the years... I must have missed the media go being killed off.

Is there any way to install stuff on the PSP anymore unless you hook it up to a PS3 now?

Ugh.  My PS4 is having trouble reading discs.  It makes a weird whirring/sputtering sound and seems like it tries to boot up the disc twice before saying that the disc is unrecongizable.  Has this happened to anyone else?

My go can't connect to the internet over wifi.. can only see a guest network and while it connects, it doesn't go out.. have to go the PS3 route.

Don't feel like going through all the hassle of trying to figure out why or what I have to change (and end up changing back) just to get the PSP online. PS3 is easier to deal with, just not plugged in atm.

More games within a flash and we still got 3 more holiday sales. Wow I dont remember previous years combining the sales. Anyways a comment in the blog is like
"are you kidding me right now?!?! I JUST purchased RDR2SE 5 minutes before this post!!!! what a load of crap!" Lol

I need some rational words spoken into me. Don’t really need anything for Christmas but a splurge is in order. Tempted and curious about Borderlands VR set. Does it sound dumb to do so when my digital backlog is sad and untouched, to add another system and games to add to it? Or is that crazy talk and more games is always better?

What ever amount you are planning on spending, just buy a PSN card and give to me. i'll spend it wisely for you. Promise.

These sales are breaking my head. I've got it down to a list of like 100 games in trying to sift through, research, and prioritize and they just keep coming.

Meanwhile, hand of Fate 2 refuses to go on sale.

Lol you gonna be broke this christmas, just pass on games that can actually go down lower on the next time while on sale. Cause your not gonna play them all like that and half just gonna be backlogged for years.

Flash Sale... more like stuff that's already been on sale, sale (with RDR2 being one exception). That said the only game I want from the sale is NBA 2K19. Looks like $30-$40 is as low as it's gonna get for now, at least until the regular season is over.

Side note: I'm not throwing shade at you Frisky, you do great work here and I appreciate it. I'm throwing shade at Sony and other VG companies for these heat and repeat sales.

Yeah, I'm skipping on most stuff. But even limiting myself to most of the games that cost 299, cheap DLC like portal pinball for a buck, and splurging on some $5 Indy games that look interesting it quickly skyrockets to north of a hundred bucks.

And then there are a couple $8 games that look interesting like pyre, and $15 games like cities and everspace.

Give me the amount of time I'm spending on researching the games, it'll probably be better just to buy the lot of them and just be done thinking about it dr.. But spending too much money before Christmas is silly

Any other CAGs out here that have been (or still) waiting for sale prices for certain games? First world problems to be sure, but still frustrating as the wish list grows over time.
Yes, about half of my wishlist remains unchanged throughout the years. The rest just haven't fallen to my magic number yet.

I went through my entire list on PSPrices at one point and either they never went on sale, or maybe once back in 2016 or something. Of them, the oldest (bottom of the list) might be Indigo Prophecy, Her Majesty's Spiffing and Night Trap. Some titles I don't even remember adding, it's been so long.

PSN should add an alert whenever something on our wishlist goes on sale, instead of me having to be disappointed week after week.

Now can we complain that there are too many games on sale?

We're nearly at 1500 and there's still a flash sale coming?

Sony, enough.

(First, though, make No Man's Sky be $15 and Astro Bot be $20.  Then you can stop.)
