I snagged a KH story so far from wamart, but now I'm wondering if I should just watch a catchup video and start with KH3, as I already have a big backlog of current gen games.

You're confusing rogue-like and rogue-lite. Rogue-like are games like Rogue/Angband etc where you don't gain anything but your own knowledge when you die. Rogue-lites lets you carry stuff over, like skills, experiences, artifacts, etc.
What I'm describing is still a roguelike. Being able to carry over anything at all is not the determining factor between a roguelike and a roguelite.

Most pure roguelikes like classic ASCII ones would have you start from zero every time, but modern ones like Shiren the Wanderer and anything else under the Mystery Dungeon umbrella do have some things that can be carried over, and are still very much roguelikes. There's a world of difference between those and stuff like Ditto or Rogue Legacy.

within KH3 itself there are a series of videos that can catch you up. I think it's called the "memory archives" and can be accessed from the main menu. It details the story from all the prior games, and doesn't take too long either. Hope that helps!

While it does indeed have that, it's pretty minimal. A nice refresher if you're already familiar with the plot of the various games, but not that informative if you aren't. Those videos are also available in an official capacity on YouTube.

You're better off watching fanmade summaries or cutscene compilations. And that's only if you genuinely care about the overarching plot.

If you don't care, just watch the included vids and go for it.

ok, thanks guys. I really want to play them all, but can't realistically see myself doing it.  Might just return the Story so far to walmart.

I think the major, numbered games are worth an attempt, even if it's long down the road. I loved the first one when it came out and still enjoy it. I also just recently replayed the second and it's probably the best of the whole bunch, possibly better than 3.

All the rest are... eh.

This series is confusing.  So I should eat least play the two 'FINAL MIX' entries?

KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX

  • KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories
  • KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days (HD Remastered cinematics)
  • KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep Final MIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Re:coded (HD Remastered cinematics)
KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 FINAL CHAPTER PROLOGUE

  • KINGDOM HEARTS Dream Drop Distance HD
  • KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth by Sleep –A fragmentary passage–
  • KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover (movie)

If you're wanting to play Kingdom Hearts 3 now because you have it already and want to do it, then just do it and try the other stuff later if you end up liking it.

You are not expected to win the game with your first character. You start over from the first level when you die. (It is possible to save games but the savefile is deleted upon loading.) The random environment makes this enjoyable rather than punishing.
Mistakes are punished, and any levels you gain or items you earn are taken away when you lose the game.
And which Shiren lets you carry over items? All the ones I've played carried nothing over.

This may be the wrong place to ask but has anyone heard news on the Path of Exile PS4 release? Supposedly it’s coming in February but we are now a week in and no release date announcement that I can find.
Saw the following on Twitter:

The previous dates for announcement/release we mentioned were estimates, but we're now close enough to be able to lock in exact dates in PST: - Feb 19th Announcement. - Mar 8th Launch on PC. - Mar 11th Launch on Xbox One. - For the PS4 launch we expect mid-March is likely.

The ones on SNES, DS, PSP, Wii, and Vita, just from what I've played. But they also have a lot of dungeons that you can't bring anything into, so they qualify as roguelikes by any definition.

For those with an Xbox One or PC, it’s also been out in preview for about a year and a half. It’s pretty decent though I still prefer Diablo III. Not too bad and pretty fair for a F2P game through.

I'm just playing Kingdom Hearts 3 and if/when I'm done, I can go back to play the other stuff then to learn more about what the hell is going on when it goes full anime.

This series is confusing. So I should eat least play the two 'FINAL MIX' entries?
Personally I say either play all of them before you get into KH3 or none of them. The final 3-4 hours of KH3 is literally every major character from every game meeting up to have their final confrontations. Like the final area of the game is a very long series of boss encounters that takes you through each game and brings a close to each of the character arcs. I mean I am talking about like over 20 characters here that are getting finality on their stories. It's not really even about understanding what is going on either, it's just that it's all very character driven stuff that will have no impact if you have no connection to the game it's from.

Even the mobile gacha game gets its time to shine in the final hours, in fact it's probably my personal favorite moment in the game because of how it's implemented. It was just a really awesome way for the devs to show thanks to fans of that game (which I was not one as I do not care for gacha games but I still got really hype during that part of the game.)

But basically yeah, imo either go all in or just skip right to the hot new thing. Gameplay-wise it's actually a pretty good starting point for the series as it's a pretty easy game even on the highest difficulty. Unfortunately it's missing critical mode (the typical highest difficulty) which is personally my only big complaint with the game.

if you do decide to jump down the rabbit hole 1 and 2 hd and bbs hd are the only ones worth playing. The rest are bunk.
Currently playing through the collection right now. Re:CoM has been a chore gameplay wise, but I'm almost done and ready to move onto 2 after watching 358/2. Just picked up 2.8 last week to get the story thus far. Hope I don't burn out by the time I finally get to 3 later this year lol.

Personally I think the comment made distancing the dev team from EA's hand in development was far more important than the number of sheep following the latest in this new gaming fad. EA is finally being hit where it hurts, and the fact that people are voting with their wallet has me delighted.

For those with an Xbox One or PC, it’s also been out in preview for about a year and a half. It’s pretty decent though I still prefer Diablo III. Not too bad and pretty fair for a F2P game through.
The launch they're mentioning is a new major patch which was supposed to also coincide with the ps4 launch. Apparently something happened to push it back. Look for something more on the 19th.

Does anyone know if  NBA Live 19 All-Star Edition is the full base game  + all star content, or is it some all-star only edition?  I know it might be a weird question but I haven't bought a basketball game since the Dreamcast era and I'm a bit confused on how the genre has developed with all these currencies and different editions and such.  Thank you!

should it be cheaper during golden week
Should it be cheaper? I'd say so considering they're really niche Japanese RPGs and Golden Week sales typically focus on Japanese-developed games

Will it be cheaper? Who knows, but I still don't like this lackadaisical approach Sony seems to have taken with their weekly sales. I still have 60+ things on my Wishlist that have never gone on sale, only a handful of which are DLC/add-ons.

It's the base game plus all-star content. I thought it was just the content until I saw the install size (about 32gb). $6 is massive steal and will be worth every penny. I'm gonna get it for the contest since I already have the base game.

It's the full game with some extra stuff that coincides with the All-Star game this weekend. It's a great game and makes it easy to ignore NBA 2K's last few bad entries.

Considering how many times those ateliers have been ported these shouldn't cost more than 40 but I cannot blame them for wanting to make money for nothing.  capitalism ho! and all that.

If the pattern hold the physical version will be cheap at gamestop eventually.

On that note what version of rorona is in this version as if its not plus like the previous bundle then it is practically worthless.

from what I saw the games have all the dlc from the ps3 versions included

If you wanted to play rainbow six siege which version is the best to get/start with.
I don't know anything about Rainbow Six Siege, but this one seems like the best one to play (free 2/14-2/17):

Did anyone get a "wedding" invite for Days Gone?

Yeah, I got the Days Gone wedding invite. It seems kind of odd.
Yeah, 6am also seems like an awkward time to do it. I'm hoping they give out wedding favors in the form of 20% off codes.

6am edit: It wasn't even a live event, just a trailer drop. Looks cool, but I shouldn't have waited up for it.

This review says the DX version is a port of the Plus version:

You might think the gameplay of chain of memories is bunk but the story of every one of them is important to the end of 3. DDD HD and 0.2 are both extremely important as well. DDD explains the exact setup of KH3 at the start and 0.2 takes aqua from BBS up to the start of 3. Even back cover / the mobile game have important tie ins, though I would say not until the last several hours. The whole fact there is a character from the mobile game presented in the ps4 game as ???? Just so you can't look them up is truly annoying though.

Too bad I can no longer find KH 2.8 Prologue. I am not paying inflated eBay prices.
