You guys act like games don't get censored all the time. Most of the time you just don't find out. And really, if naked butts disappeared from games forever how long before you noticed? I'm guessing several years.

No, there are a lot bigger problems than asses disappearing from video games.
Yeah, and you can be upset with more than one thing at a time. Just because something isn't important to you or you can't grasp why it sets a bad precedent doesn't mean you get to say that it shouldn't matter. Censorship is censorship, and if you keep excusing the little things it means you'll be conditioned to excuse bigger and bigger things.

Says the guy who has Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash as their most recent played game. ;)
Thank god someone finally noticed. I guess my concern is mostly the games that get censored out of existence, which happens semi regularly. I can find naked butts elsewhere.

Right , I mean I have all 3 home consoles , if I knew about the censorship , I would have grabbed the Xbox version. As minor as a naked butt is , censorship isn't a minor thing
I think it's a dumb change tbh (and horribly implemented in the case of Trish) but at the end of the day I can't see myself playing on xbox anyway because I don't like how Dante feels to play on a normal xbox controller because of the swapped dpad/analog stick. Also in DMC5 air taunts are ridiculously powerful for Nero/Dante and having them on a giant button in the middle of the controller feels great. Technically you can rebind everything but by the end of the game both characters are using every single button in combat so something has to go on the "select" button regardless.

That said I bet an elite controller feels freaking amazing for the game, but I ain't got one of those and doubt I will be getting one any time soon.

I wonder what would have happened if Capcom refused to make this change? It’s not like Sony edited the game themselves, that lens flare probably took some time to alter for the cutscene

Then Sony wouldn't have allowed them to release it in this market on their platform. Capcom could object, lawyers would get involved, and both sides would spend money that they really wouldn't... Hence Capcom just edited it.

I have a feeling the DMC5 issue is one of an unintentional bug rather than censorship.  In other words, the lens flare in the Trish scene was the original artistic intent, but for whatever reason was disabled in the unpatched version of the game across all platforms.  Under this theory, with the most recent patch, the North American PS4 version has the "correct" lens flare enabled, while it is somewhat unclear the reason why the Japanese PS4 version and the XB1/PC versions still don't have the lens flare (unpatched?  different patch version?  still bugged?).

There are two strong pieces of evidence that lead me to this theory:

1) There is a second scene in DMC5 involving Lady which features the same type of lens flare obscuring her bare ass (the shovel scene).  In ALL versions of the game across ALL platforms, this lens flare is present for Lady.  Logically speaking, if Trish's scene is considered "censored", then Lady's scene is also "censored".  But it doesn't really make sense for Lady's scene to remain censored if you're going to actively uncensor Trish's scene, right?  In other words, if the artistic intent was for Trish's ass to be seen without lens flare, don't you think it incongruous that the same artistic vision decided to go the opposite way and cover up Lady's ass?  Wouldn't Lady be uncovered as well?  Therefore, given that Lady is covered in all versions, isn't it far more likely that BOTH Trish and Lady were originally intended to be obscured with lens flare?

2) The ESRB rating for DMC5 reads as follows:

>>>Content Descriptors: Blood, Partial Nudity, Strong Language, Violence

...

>>>Some female characters are depicted partially nude, with their breasts and buttocks minimally covered by blood, light, or clothing

The ESRB rating description specifically mentions that the nudity in the game is PARTIAL nudity (not full nudity), and that one of the obscuring methods for achieving this partial nudity is "light" (i.e. lens flare).  Thus it seems quite apparent that the lens flare in both Trish and Lady's scenes were originally intended to be there, seeing as how those scenes got called out in the actual ESRB rating description.  And as a corollary, it seems highly unlikely that full nudity with no covering was originally intended to be in the game, since the ESRB rating would have reflected that fact.

This theory holds no water when you realize it’s only on the PS4 in the western market. I highly doubt a Japanese developed game would give the definitive experience to a portion of the audience and not even themselves.

Also, a glorified plumber’s crack is not full nudity.

Actually, it makes perfect sense if you consider that North America accounts for the vast majority of game sales, and that different regions and systems often have different rollout schedules for patches. North American PS4 version is almost certainly the highest selling SKU in the highest selling market for this game, so of course it would receive priority.

Note that in the reports of the Japanese PS4 version being "uncensored", it is ambiguous which patch version they are on or whether they even patched it at all. It wouldn't surprise me if the Japanese version ultimately gets the lens flare patched back in as well.

You are completely right. These games just feel better on a ps4 controller , and that's why I went with the ps4 version. I love my elite controller and was thinking that it would be great for a devil may cry game. If you get some extra funds , the elite controller is extremely worth it, even with the steep price.

I’m sorry, this is just willful ignorance.

I wonder if anyone has actually played the game without the day-one patch to confirm the flare was added with the patch, or if it's only assumed the patch added the flare?

The PS4 6.50 firmware update seems to be causing a few problems. In Conan Exiles players weren't able to log in to the online servers. I saw a couple people say one of their PS4 themes isn't working. And I saw one person say since the update Wipeout Omega Collection started having crashes. It makes me wonder if the DMC patch just dealt with firmware issues, and the flare was already present.

Conan Exiles was patched yesterday to fix it's problem. A funny thing about that is when players contacted the developers the developers said it had to do with the firmware update, and they're working with Sony to get a hotfix as soon as possible. When a player contacted Sony they were told it has nothing to do with the firmware update, and to check your router.

is the "WORLD OF FINAL FANTASY MAXIMA Upgrade" DLC worth it for $8 ? does it provide a lot of content?
If you liked the base game it just adds more to do so I would say yes. Some extra mirages and bosses, a new dungeon, an additional option for customizing gameplay (chamption jewels).

I bought mine close to lauch along with a 20% coupon and that was worth it for me. $8 is a great price.

Enjoyed the hour of FFXV Pocket Edition HD that I played on stream. It's a good, streamlined version of the original with smaller areas to explore, FF3 DS-style simpler 3D models for everything, and a battle system that is a bit easier to grasp than FFXV's system was while still being mostly the same.

The Devil May Cry anime series seems to be free on PSN. I heard some people were having trouble getting it, but I was able to purchase it earlier. For what it's worth, I have PS+, and I own DMC4 Special Edition Deluxe.

You have to buy it on the PS4; or maybe either the PS3 or Vita as well. Movies and TV shows aren't listed on the PSN webstore anymore.

Had to search to find it

Quick question
If I preorder a game digitally from a retailer like Best Buy, does it give me the PSN Store preorder bonuses since it's a digital copy?
Thanks.

I have not gotten the PSN preorder bonuses when preordering like that through Best Buy.

I got it to work on PS4.  Whole season is on sale.  Individual episodes are not.

Thanks to whoever found this.

Just tried on the app and it doesn’t work. Went on my PS4 and it’s still free.
Weird. I saw it on the front page of Slick Deals that had a link to the video app which I had never installed. Again, this is not the regular Playstation app but the Playstation Video app. As soon as I downloaded it, logged in, and searched by title it came up free. But as long as you got it that's all that matters.

Another week that I don't need to buy anything.  Good, that will let me whittle down the Frozen Wilds
