I'd say yeah. Hell if I had a kid I'd sure play it with them. That and Journey, Flower, etc. In fact, it would probably be more fun that way too.

@mpaullin That is one of the main reasons this is my main, if only, thread I post in. Because almost everyone here is respectful and intelligent with their responses and opinions. And cause frankly Frisky does a great job of keeping people informed of anything psn.

The story will go over her head and there are a couple moments that may scare her, but I think she will enjoy following the swan footprints and watching you paint topiary animals.

I played the Unfinished Swan demo and wasn't terribly impressed, but the idea of playing it with my 5-year-old son has sold me on it at this price point. At least it's something to break up all the Lego Batman 2 sessions.

Always good news to hear Plus is going to stick to the same price. I would have even understood if they raised the price a little to like 59.99 or something. Because at it's current price it's a steal to anyone serious into Sony gaming (ps3 and vita and soon to be ps4).

I do have a question about Plus though if anyone here has heard about it or would like to give their opinions on it. I know they will keep focusing on the vita as a part of plus as it's still their core handheld right now. But how long do you think ps3 psn content will be a part of plus or if they will even focus on it much longer? Because none of your psn stuff carries over to the ps4 right?

pretty big news on ps+ for ps4 going forward ---

in addition to the already known games mentioned at the conference (drive club ps+, Don't Starve, Outlast, and The Secret Ponchos), they have committed to at least 1 ps4 'indy' game per month for the first year.  this is addition to ps3 and vita games, of course.

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/413102/interviews/the-ps4-interview-shuhei-yoshida/

entire interview is interesting, but the ps+ stuff is here:

-----

Can you explain a bit more the decision to move online play behind the PS Plus pay wall?
-----
Shuei Yoshida : That's a big decision. What we internally discussed and decided is that we will continue the free access to online play on PS3 and Vita, so that's clear. But because on PS4 the online connectivity features such as second screen, auto downloads and share features - these are one big pillar of the PS4 experience and we will continue to invest in this area to expand and improve these online features and services.

If we keep giving away online access for free, the natural pressure is that we have to cut down on the cost to provide this free service. But that's conflicting with our goal of being able to provide very robust and great online services going forward. So we decided that on PS4, because we want to continue to invest and improve our new services, we've asked the most engaged consumers in the online activities to share the burden with us so that we can continue to invest.

But to make the pain a little bit less we will continue to offer free content with instant game collections, discounts and early access to betas on PS4 as well. So at the beginning we typically picked from older games for the instant game collection on Vita and PS3, but because everything is new on PS4 we decided to make a smaller version of Drive Club with all the online features open, included in that instant game collection on day one.

In addition to that we add one digital game every month, so they get high quality indie games as well on top of what they get on PS3 and Vita. So hopefully that makes people's decision easy to join PS Plus.

It means PS+ Drive Club is not the same as retail, and future IGC games could be striped version as well. Got it.

I'm just going to leave this here for the lols:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/12/gamers-without-internet-can-stick-with-xbox-360-says-microsoft?utm_campaign=fbposts&utm_source=facebook

This is from an interview from Microsoft's Don Mattrick. Basically, this makes me want to buy a f'ing PS4 day one just to give a big middle finger to MS. Man reading that pissed me off.

Sorry, but I had to blow off some steam. On a happier note, started playing 999 on ds to get ready for Virtue's Last Reward and I can't wait now.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't think this sort of stuff needs to be posted here. If you really want to discuss that stuff, there are dedicated Xbox One and PS4 threads in their respective forums that would be a better fit than a thread about deals on games and stuff on PSN. I'm not attacking you or trying to make an example of you or anything like that, but I wanted to see what the general opinions of viewers here are on this sort of thing since the whole console war thing is only going to get worse from here on out.

I'm fine with the off-topic stuff as long as things turn around to on-topic in a reasonable amount of time, but I don't want this thread to become some sort of bunker for people to lob attacks and such at Microsoft and/or their audience like this thread should only be used by fanboys.
I disagree, the off topic is what makes this topic good. PS3 gamers in one spot. Otherwise it's just reading of copy/paste from the ps blog. To not allow it or topics to head off in other directions is to eliminate this community. Every deal thread shouldn't consist only of, when does the update go live, should I buy this, oh no I bought this and was charged that and other asinine interests.

Right now there's 2 console preorder threads for things that won't release for 6 months. To restrict topics there or chatter that's anything but people checking their order status is ridiculous. Let people talk, be and just keep it from being insulting. Unless its funny then it's cool.
Hopefully this is not off-topic. More info than a deal. Plus to stay the same price. Not sure if people had a source yet.

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/12/playstation-plus-price-not-changing-video-services-dont-requir/
I think you've misread what I said. Where did I say I don't want off-topic conversations? I said I don't want to see things devolve into fanboy-esque console wars off-topic conversations where people are just raging and telling at each other. We've been lucky that mostly everybody that comes into this thread is level-headed and mature enough to not start that kind of stuff, but I know that the chances of it happening are going to increase up to and after the launches of the PS4 and Xbox One and I wanted to head things off at the pass before it gets bad. I've always said that I'm completely fine with off-topic conversations around here because they usually don't take over the thread and don't last long enough to be a distraction that requires mods to get involved.

I'm not sure what the pre-order threads really have to do with anything. I was talking about the dedicated Xbox One and PlayStation 4 topics in their respective forums where the point is to go in-depth about all aspects of the consoles and everything surrounding them while being able to go off on any news post that occurs. Those are where the stupid things that Microsoft executives say belong and things like that that don't really have any relation to what this thread is about. This thread is more for news on what's going on with PSN stuff on PS3, Vita, and PS4 along with tangential stuff that comes from that.

Wanted Chaos Code, but was too cheap to import, so I tried and it worked.

Nope, no credit card necessary.

I'm strongly considering Tomb Raider, but I've read in some reviews that it "borrow mechanics" from Uncharted.  I enjoyed Uncharted up until it became less about platforming & puzzles and more about pew & pew... does the new Tomb Raider play more like Tomb Raider, or more like a long series of gunfights?

This is absolutely worrying to me. Look at how big some of the PS3 retail games that have been free through PS+ are - PS4 games will be much bigger than that. It's not like everyone will have fiber optic by the time PS4 rolls out, so I think there's a good chance we'll be getting stripped-down versions of some games.

On a similar note, most of the games that have been offered on PS+ have been good, but that's when it was an elite service. What incentive does Sony have to continue to secure good games if PS+ is mandatory for everyone who wants to play online?

Hmm, kind of hard for me to answer that. I can tell you that paid $20 bucks for it awhile back and felt I got every dollar out of it I spent. It definitely does have an Uncharted feel to it, but the world seems more open, probably cause you can revisit places, and it has that "Metroid" feel to it in that you can return to areas with your upgraded weapons and reach areas you couldn't. I also never felt like there was too much combat and I think the bow helped a lot in the fun aspect of it for me. I'd say go for it at this price myself. Hope that helps.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I never played the old Tomb Raiders so I can't comment on how it relates to the original games.

You have to buy Tomb Raider. It is one of my favorite games this generation. And it comes with Quantum Conundrum? Quite a steal. To answer your question, it does become quite "pew pew" late into the game. Lara becomes an absolute killing machine and you'll have little difficulty with any of the fights by then. I think Crystal Dynamics anticipated a higher-than-average percentage of female gamers playing this than most games, so they made the combat a little easy. If that's the price of playing such a great game, I'll gladly pay it and then some.

It did get easy toward the end like he says. So I'd definitely recommend playing it on hard from the get go. Hard mode felt like normal mode to me.

Got it.

It's possible we might see more segmented games, like how Uncharted 3 was three parts or Starhawk got a SP / MP DL.

Sounds like you wouldn't like it.

Tempted to pick up PS All Stars, but if there's any game destined to be a part of PS+ and I probably wouldn't get to it any time soon, it's that. In fact, I can't believe it's not already a permanent fixture.

After watching some more gameplay on YouTube, I think you're right. Think I'm gonna hold off on it for now.

I may be a bit late to the party on this particular discussion, but here is my 2 cents...

Frisky, you did say "Maybe it's just me, but I don't think this sort of stuff needs to be posted here." I read that as, "please take it elsewhere".

Speaking for myself, I appreciate the off topic / semi off topic discussions on this thread. I follow this thread not only for the great info it provides regarding PSN, but also for the discussions in a wide range of topics, that if they were discussed in other threads, I wouldn't read them, as I prefer this thread due to the main purpose of it, and also, for the regular participants who comment here. Rather than occasionally checking in to this thread for the deals, I instead check in frequently every day to see what everyone is discussing. Unless it becomes a problem, I say, welcome the discussions rather than try to limit them. And when it does become a problem, it can be dealt with properly, just as it always has. All the regulars here are very respectful to each other from my observation. So, I may speak only for myself, and I might be one of the few that share this view, but I say Joker, and others, don't filter yourself to just PSN stuff. Info like you gave, I appreciate it, and wouldn't have seen it in the other thread, because THIS is the thread I go to for PS3, Vita, PSN and other current video game topics. And with E3 and 2 new console reveals in our midst, I am down to read / discuss any related topic as it all generally intertwines together.

"That sort of stuff" is referring to console wars-esque news/rants about why Microsoft/Nintendo/Xbox One/Wii U/etc. sucks rather than the more reasonable course of discussion that we normally have.that is both on-topic and off-topic depending on what's going on for that day. I'm not, nor have I ever, advocated to get rid of all off-topic discussions in this thread, as I'm just trying to nudge things in the right direction so that it can more easily stay the way it is than devolve into fanboy wars.

Does that make sense?

Sorry to hear that but glad you watched more on it and made a decision. Maybe you can try it out when it inevitably gets cheaper! lol

This multi threaded quote crap (thats what it's called right?) is getting kind of insane. Hope we can change that option in the future. Sure someone's already told cheapy and them about it.

With a pre-order on PSN (The Last of Us), is there a way to have it automatically download once it's available? Or do I have to do it manually?

I'm gonna be at work and want it to be fully installed by the time I get home. I read that the install is like 36GB o_O

Sorry for the double post but I wanted to try and help people see Frisky's view about this back and forth I created (correct me if I'm wrong Frisky.) I think what he has been trying to say and is worried about is this thread becoming immature rants about different consoles and companies. He wasn't trying to say my post was immature or "fanboyish" (god I hate that term lol) or that I'm not allowed to be off topic. Pretty sure he was just trying to warn people to not let it come to a point where a mod steps in and nukes like 3 pages which has happened a few times recently.

Random people who aren't usually on this board could also come in and see us talking about it and quickly try to escalate it. I think we just need to keep it all to a rational discussion and avoid insults etc. which we were doing. Which is why I, and the core community here, visit and post in this thread.

People can also get very defensive about things like the companies or consoles they like too so it's usually best to avoid that as much as possible.

So anyways, that'll be my last post on the topic. I'm gonna try this cheap grocery store wine now and hopefully don't gag. Cheers! :)

Somewhat back on topic do you Vita owners think an 8GB card is going to be sufficient if aside from Persona 4 my whole library's going to be PS+ games? I'm kicking myself for passing on a 16GB for $30 when I had the chance and its making paying $47 for one seem even worse. On the other hand an 8GB is still $23 but back ordered for 2-3 weeks...

Hmm, I just tried out Deus Ex: Human Revolution.  I was really looking forward to it, having heard good reviews, and having heard it described as an RPG, my favorite genre. But all I'm seeing here is an FPS, one of the few genres I can't stand..  sigh.  People really need to stop throwing around the term "RPG" so loosely.

The funny thing is that it's neither... Deus EX is a stealth game.

I am back to report that the wine is quite drinkable and that I finally knocked off Uncharted Golden Abyss off my backlog. Next is Rayman Origins also on my vita. Still getting through 999. If Virtue is as good or better than this, we all have a treat to look forward to. And I'll be damned if I let my backlog loom over me anymore. Beat 7 games this past week and a half. NO MERCY!

@amusedtoe I would say at the least you should get a 16gb card. It's perfectly doable to just download a few titles and just keep swapping them out. But imo the extra money you spend on the bigger card is well worth it for the convenience of more room. I have a 32gb card that has about 8-10gb free after my recent beating of some digital titles. I know if my backlog was better handled I would easily be able to work with a 16gb card. But I wouldn't be able to make the step back to a 8gb. The extra room will allow you to have different genres of games to play on your vita when you're tired of another etc.

i think you're completely overreaching here.

#1 -- they have clearly defined what the ps+ version of drive club is. it will have all in game features, just not every car or track. yes, it's not the whole game, but remember:

#2 -- it's a freaking AAA release game on the launch day of the console free for everyone with ps+. That's amazing, and way more than we could have expected. I mean, heck,

#3 -- if we'd heard that there would be no ps+ ps4 games for 6 months, nobody would be that surprised. instead, we're getting at least a dozen, starting day 1 through the year.

Getting all worried they're going to start giving us partial games just because they're giving us a ps4 launch game missing some cars is extropolating just a bit too much. i mean, there's no way they were going to give us a $60 launch game for $50 (that also includes the IGC and online). so it's pretty obvious Drive Club ps+ edition is exactly what it sounds like - a total gift to us, not some harbinger of doom.

No. 8 GB isn't 8 GB (due to formatting) and some + games are actually fairly large. Blazblue (largest known) is 3.3 GB alone and others like Zero Escape are a gig (if I recall correctly). You're going to be looking at a lot of deleting and most likely capping off at 7 games max.

Frisky, yes, I understand where you are coming from.

Regarding 999, roughly how long of a game is it to play through? Looking to pick it up before playing VLR.

Grumble, knew I was hoping a little too hard that I could get away with 8GB. Not like my 16GB iPad isn't constantly full or anything. Guess I'll have to just bite the bullet or have the system just sitting until a decent deal comes along again. Of course my latest batch of Amazon trade in is in transit so probably a week plus until it's in my account.

To put a little in perspective. I only have pure VITA games. And 16gb has been too little for awhile now. So im upgrading to an 32 GB next time I see it for $80 somewhere.

Was planning on trading my 16gb to GS for ~$25.

Honestly, it depends on how fast you read and how quickly you solve the puzzles. I'd anticipate between 12 and 20 hours to get the true ending (which requires at least three playthroughs, I believe, though you can skip previously read text). Could be significantly less if you follow a guide and rush through it, but that would lessen the impact somewhat. VLR is about twice as long.

Thank you for posting this, I'm not sure how so many idiots extrapolated "price increase to $59.99" from the phrase "Less than $5 a month". :wall:

My guess is that, for the first 6 or so months after the PS4 launch, we'll get 1 PS4 game, 2 PS3 games, and 2 PS Vita games per month.
