Hmm, so I guess I'm not meant to buy Mortal Kombat.  Was going to cave because it's only $5 and already on the system since I just got my PSN/PS+ cards from BBY but it gives me an error when I try to add it to my cart on the web store and on the PS3.

I agree about it being a good idea to play in order, as there is a continuity in both the gameplay evolution and story to a lesser extent since you don't need to play others to get what's going on.

The first game has none of the iconic gameplay elements of the series (leveling weapons and strafing) and Going Commando has just one level per weapon, so it took a while for the series to really get to the standard that fans expect out of the mainline series. The first game is also the roughest of the six mainline games, as the controls aren't so great and the final boss is one of the worst in the history of gaming. I'm replaying through the HD collection and it's great to see the evolution of the gameplay since I mostly only played the first up to the boss fight before jumping in with Tools of Destruction on PS3.
Thanks for making me already fear my final boss encounter for the first game Frisky haha. Guess I'll see how I like the controls as well.

It's been a while since I've played it, but what is so terrible about the final boss? Sure he's not incredibly easy to beat, but I don't remember having too much trouble.
You respawn without the ammo that you used in that attempt to beat the boss along with all of the bolts you spent on refilling ammo, so if you don't beat him right away, you end up in this loop where you only have ammo for random guns whose ammo drops during the fight. That ends up making the first harder and harder the more you play because your ability to beat it is left up to the randomness of ammo drops, so you could get fucked with ammo for a not-so-useful weapon rather than the great ones that you would prefer to have. They should've changed how their respawns work for that final boss.

Same here, when trying to add SOTC to my cart!! It's only $5 and I still have some funds in my wallet, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I guess not...

Does the Alice PSN download also include the original Alice game as well?

I don't think you even need to buy the game to get the original Alice.

Edit: Bleh link not working for some reason, but if you look up American McGee's Alice on the Sony network site you should find it for free.

oh I get you now. I didn't realize, man that is going to suck when I get around to playing it :bomb:

Hmm, guess they're starting the store update then.
Don't these games return to normal prices after today? I guess what I'm asking is once they're done updating the store, will we still get to take advantage of this sale until 7/10?

No, deals are live from the first store update until the next store update happens.
Which I'm guessing is why we're getting errors. It seems that when they put something on sale they don't just change the price but it's actually an entirely different item in the database which is why you get the errors and when a sale ends everything's gone from your cart that was on sale.

I don't think that's what happens. I think it's just because the price is being updated, so while it's changing, nobody can purchase that game. Or something like that where it's deactivated for a bit while they change the price back to normal.

I havent played the game in the 10-12 or so years since it was released but I dont remember this at all. So either I have a horrible memory (which I do in fact have) or I was lucky enough to beat him right away.

Yep, finally was able to add SOTC to my cart... and it was $20.  No thanks.  I sat there a few nights ago and talked myself out of it, I thought I'd watch a few gameplay vids first.  It just wasn't meant to be!!

Man, I finally got some funds in my account to get the R&C Collection but they are updating the store. All well, I got the new sale to look forward too. :dunce:

No more Lego Pirates for $5, I see.
What? Don't toy with me...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is what they do. Frisky says it every week, it's just best not to mess with the store while it's updating.

I just recently beat the game a few months ago and that is absolutely how it plays out.

I wasnt doubting you. I just dont remember that at all. I only remember it fondly. I have the disc version of the R&C collection. I will be playing it again soon. Is there a way to save before the final boss so you can just reload?

Well guys, prepare to hear my final boss woes if I don't beat him the first time this weekend. I'm sure NinjaSquirrel will be right there with me haha.

Glad I bought the R&C Collection this morning if the prices are changing already. I always think of it happening in the evening. Wouldn't have anyone else to blame but myself though if I missed it for procrastinating on it this long.

Having platinum-ed the R&C Collection, the last boss of R&C 1 was absolutely not anywhere nearly as bad as Frisky makes it sound like. The first form has like 8 ammo crates in his arena (and 2? 3? health crates), so you will NEVER need ammo. Assuming you die a few times, you'll end up with max ammo in all weapons, and if you focus and use only the rocket launcher or other powerful weapons, you'll immediately refill those because the ammo crates only give ammo for weapons you don't have max in. What made it trickier was the lack of checkpoints and being a rather long fight.

Also, I found R&C 1 to be the best of the trilogy. As you start with 1 and advance, you can see how the gameplay and system evolved into what it became in R&C:F, but you can also see where they tacked on needless minigames and horrible collection quests for the sake of extending gameplay. 3 is the closest to the R&C:F experience, but still felt like a chore after 1.

And where is Deadlocked in the ranking? I liked it more than 2 and 3, definitely. Sadly, I also enjoyed Full Frontal Assault - AFTER I had powered up weapons. Before that point, it was terrible and not fun at all.

I havent even bothered with FFA or Deadlocked, but that reminded me that I also enjoyed the PSN game Quest for Booty.  One of my very first PSN purchases.

Grand Theft Auto V: Official Gameplay Video
Such a geeky thing, but I get excited seeing that the triple billboard that's on the side of a hotel (near Staples Center) actually made it in the game. I was hoping they would put up another GTA ad on it for E3 but right now it's sporting an epic ad for Hostess cupcakes.

If people want to spend $60 on a digital copy of a game, more power to them. I have internal turmoil when I spend more than $7.50 on a digital title.

Nice. I absolutely cannot wait until Hostess Cupcakes finally get released!

I believe you restart the level when you reload a save that's mid-level, so you'd end up playing more than just the boss fight over and over again.

Wow I just watched video reviews of the Simpsons and X-Men arcade games and I'm surprised. X-Men hasn't held up too bad but the Simpsons games looks like butt compared to how I remember it.

Three VITA games for $17.50. Cant beat that.
Think you're going to be disappointed if you try shoving Alice in there, she doesn't shrink quite that much. ;)

Was referring to MK VITA (last week), Lego Batman, and Silent hill. Alice is for my PS3, i love that game. 1000 it now time to platinum it.

EDIT: Lego Batman 2 already downloaded on my VITA. Only took my VITA 9 minutes to download 1.1 GB. Im impressed.

Anyone having problems with the R&C final boss, I have one word: Ryno. You need to buy it anyways if you're going for platinum, and it doesn't take that long to grind for the bolts needed to buy it.

Looks like the store is currently updating. Atlus has a ton of its PSP RPGs at 75% off, it seems... also, New Little King's Story at $20.

This week I picked up Alice, lotr war in the north (recently sold my disc copy, fun game), and silent hill vita. Pretty solid summer sale this year.

Probably gonna get Alice for $4 and that $1.99 add-on pack. Good thing someone said to try the demo, first. Gonna check it out.

Looks like the store is currently updating. Atlus has a ton of its PSP RPGs at 75% off, it seems... also, New Little King's Story at $20.
Well I was thinking about Alice and Silent Hill but boy I think I'm going to have to go this route instead.

The stuff in the DLC pack looks neat but talk about pay to win, some of it sounds wicked overpowered. See the DLC section on this page: http://alice.wikia.com/wiki/Alice:_Madness_Returns Looks like if you're using all the weapons you're taking 50% damage, dealing 50% more damage, regaining health when hitting with the horse and have twice as much pepper ammo. Then one of the dresses deals double damage with all weapons.

Alice Madness Returns doesn't show up on the sale page for me, did a quick search and found it but it says I already purchased the game and it won't let me add it to the cart. I added the full game trial of the game to my download list once but never downloaded or got around to playing it, what do I need to do to be able to buy the game?

Download and start the Full Game Trial. Don't download Full Game Trials if you're not going to play them right away.

That Atlus sale is just wow! Even better than the main sale. I guess that's what happens when your parent company is investigated for fraud and declares bankruptcy.

Why did many of you wait until the last minute to try to grab Mortal Kombat? If you guys were trapped on an island with zombies and the last ferry left at midnight, you guys would be fucked.

You need to play the game trial (or at least start it and then wait an hour. No way to buy it until that one hour trial is up

I hope someone will be able to post the normal prices of these Atlus games so we can make some informed decisions on what's worthwhile. I can't be the only person annoyed that they make it so vague. Like Riviera is listed under sale for $10 but I could have sworn that was it's price when I looked at it last week. And New Little King's Story is listed under sale and price drop.

Because I genuinely couldn't decide on MK and was going to make a last minute impulse purchase. :p
