Funny someone compared Demon Souls to Megaman with Malicous being a free game also this month (like megaman also in terms of taking powers) Megamans 25th anniversary just passed

Spring sale will be good for when I get my PSN credit back. Nothing like maximizing the value of free money.
You guys are absolutely right, holy a** f*** Demon's Souls is hard. The lack of checkpoints is really what sparks the frustration.
There are only two levels which don't have some type of open shortcut (open from the start) or unlockable shortcut (pull a switch to open a gate or lower a bridge near the start), the second level of Boletaria Palace and the fourth level of Boletaria Palace (which is the unofficial final level). The final (3rd) level of the other 4 worlds are very short boss stages, and the other 2 levels in those four worlds have shortcuts.

Boletaria Palace
1-1
Has a few shortcuts to unlock / alternate paths including the ultimate shortcut which is that the boss door unlocks 50 feet from the starting point.

1-2
has no shortcuts other than killing the dragon makes moving along the top of the bridge easier. You can take an alternate path through the inside of the bridge for certain sections to avoid having to outrun the dragon.

1-3
shortcut you unlock by opening the gate near the start from the other side to bypass replaying a section with a bunch of knights, fat officials, assassins, and archers.

Stonefang
2-1
shortcut 1 you unlock by activating the elevator at the start of the level, shortcut 2 to the boss unlocked once you make a loop and hit the switch to cool the lava near the top of the aforementioned elevator.

2-2
If you take the tunnel to the right at the start you can bypass the entire level by carefully dropping down a vertical shaft straight to the boss.

Latria
3-1
Every time you unlock one of the numerous gates in the prison you unlock a shortcut or don't have to return to that area because you already have the key from that area. Eventually you turn off an arrow machine which guards a causeway shortcut to the boss allowing you to bypass much of the level if you die trying to kill the boss.

3-2
You make a big circle, shortcut to the boss is unlocked once you finish the circle and destroy the flesh bag blocking the way to the boss near the start of the level (like in 1-1)

Shrine of Storms
4-1
Roll off a wall at a certain point near the start to bypass almost all of the first level
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iDnktksr0E

4-2
Tough, but short, there is a place you can roll off to bypass much of the second reaper room.

Valley of Defilement
5-1
There is a place you can jump off into a bale of hay to bypass some of the level
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnE-Yfs103M&t=2m38s
There is also an alternate path you can take to drop down to that point instead of fighting your way down the spiral ramp on the left side.

5-2
Once you are through all the poison muck and get on solid ground on the other side of the level, keep going straight, bypassing the boss gate tunnel, and eventually you will find a bridge to kick down which is a BIG shortcut to let you go from the start of the level to the boss gate without ever having to enter the poison swamp again.

Hmm.. I don't suppose there's any friend-specific online integration in Demon's Souls, is there? Being able to see friends' runs, or have their clues take precedence over others, or something?

If there is I've never found it. Wish there were. Great idea! Perhaps they'll bundle/re-hd for the ps4 and it's potential 2k support and add that in, with the social sharing push they're doing. I know they claim 4k for video but not games, wonder if 2k games might come down the pipeline.

Nope, it's all "strangers in the night" style of helping / hurting (like what Journey later did) and the choice was deliberate.
Demon's Souls Director Hidetaka Miyazaki explains the origin of the multiplayer mechanic
"The origin of that idea is actually due to a personal experience where a car suddenly stopped on a hillside after some heavy snow and started to slip," says Miyazaki. "The car following me also got stuck, and then the one behind it spontaneously bumped into it and started pushing it up the hill... That's it! That's how everyone can get home! Then it was my turn and everyone started pushing my car up the hill, and I managed to get home safely.

"But I couldn't stop the car to say thanks to the people who gave me a shove. I'd have just got stuck again if I'd stopped. On the way back home I wondered whether the last person in the line had made it home, and thought that I would probably never meet the people who had helped me. I thought that maybe if we'd met in another place we'd become friends, or maybe we'd just fight...

"You could probably call it a connection of mutual assistance between transient people. Oddly, that incident will probably linger in my heart for a long time. Simply because it's fleeting, I think it stays with you a lot longer... like the cherry blossoms we Japanese love so much."

wow, that's a really cool story. I love when stuff from developers day to day lives gets used in games, in very unexpected ways (a certain Nintendo developer comes to mind;)). For whatever reason, knowing the origin makes the online features a lot more interesting to me, but I guess I'm weird like that:bouncy:

One of my favorite anecdotes about Demon's Souls is why it wasn't published in North America by Sony (they co-developed it and released it in Japan)

Shuhei Yoshida, Sony Worldwide Studios president
"For my personal experience with Demon's Souls, when it was close to final I spent close to two hours playing it, and after two hours I was still standing at the beginning of the game.
"I said, 'This is crap. This is an unbelievably bad game.' So I put it aside."
The ultimate rage quit.

I always get a laugh when reading that because after hours of playing I found myself still in 1-1. Once I finally beat 1-1 the feeling of victory was great since I died so many times.
I feel like I should bookmark this post for when I start playing;)
all the shortcuts come naturally, no need to bookmark. all are easily found via basic exploration, none are hidden. the post is great to refute the idea that there are no checkpoints, but you shouldn't need to feel like you need a list of them. you'll find them, no worries.

re: friend integration. please no. demon's souls has one of the most original and impressive online systems ever created, crippled only by some server related connectivity issues. but you're supposed to be playing with strangers, limited to only rudimentary gestures. embrace it. it's part of the very fabric of the game's universe. d*souls has never been about cooping through it with your buddy while talking about chicks, man. it's about a deep brew of isolation mixed with knowing others are going through the same thing at the same time (and seeing the ghosts of them dying).
What's the word on Rainbow Moon? I heard it was a mega-grindfest.
It is. I gave up on it, because of how incredibly flat it was.

All affa's points about Demon's Souls are true, but unlike Dark Souls (which uses a more peer-to-peer system), it's pretty easy to co-op with friends in Demon's Souls if desired. Just make sure you're within the correct level range (+/- 10% to 10 I think?) and put your souls sign in an out of the way spot so your friend sees it before some random stranger.

But, and I can't stress this enough, you will really enjoy the game more if you try to play through it by yourself and only summon someone as a last resort. If someone runs you through all the traps/enemies and you lose that feeling of exploration/dread/isolation, you're missing out on what the game is all about.

I have no friends, so this won't be a problem:joystick:
Fuuuck, Spring Fever, looks like I'll be spending more money.
What are the chances that Okami HD will be discounted during the Spring Fever sale? Has it ever been lower than it's current $19.99 price point?
It is. I gave up on it, because of how incredibly flat it was.
Rainbow Moon was easily one of the most boring games I've ever played. I've repeatedly pushed to try to keep playing it, but once the novelty wears off, you realize that you're going to be facing a metric ****-ton of enemies with very little differentiation between them, in what is a very slow and very non-engrossing SRPG battle system. Also, the story sucks and the translation is wanting.

Waste your time elsewhere, my friend.
What are the chances that Okami HD will be discounted during the Spring Fever sale? Has it ever been lower than it's current $19.99 price point?
Probably about 32.33 (repeating of course) percentage of it going on sale...

Actually, it seems possible. It's been over 5 months since it released and since it's free over in EU, seems like they may want to put it on sale over here as well. It's never been less than $19.99 here before.

That being said, it's pretty easy to get a 30 Day PS+ Trial for EU regions, create an EU account on your PS3, reedem the trial, and download the PS+ EU games for you to play on your main account. As long as your willing to bump Okami HD to the top of your backlog and play it right away, it's a pretty sweet deal. That's what I'm doing with Okami right now and what a did with Sleeping Dogs a few months back. I'll be taking advantage of Thomas Was Alone at the end of the month as well.

I'm still waiting and holding out hope for PS Plus one day - especially now that EU is getting it. I know it sounds crazy since US doesn't get a lot of what EU gets, but I am wary of buying anything I have seen on PS Plus EU unless I can get it very cheap.

I hope it does get discounted, and nah, it's never been cheaper.

where can I get one? I tried the FB promo twice and never received any emails:cry:

That's odd. I've had no problems getting them from that promo with different accounts.

Otherwise I've gotten 2 different ones in the PSN code drop thread, they usually hang around a while because nobody redeems them, so you may want to go back a few pages and see if there are any unused ones yet. Alternatively you could look for one on the trade thread, might cost you a few bucks tho.

do I need to make a EU facebook account for it to work? And thanks, I'll go check there

ok, I just created a new facebook account (decided to make it for a character I'm fond of), so we'll see if anything comes of this. Couple more questions (if you don't mind):

Can these be stacked, or can I use another after the 30 days run out?
Do I need CC info to redeem on my account?
Can I play the content on my name account (I think I already know the answer, but wanted to confirm)?

Black Rock Shooter will be out in a few weeks:
NIS America is extremely happy to announce that Black Rock Shooter The Game will release on PlayStation®Portable via PlayStation®Network on April 23 in the US and April 24 in Europe. This title will not be available on PSN in Canada, Mexico, and select countries in Europe due to licensing and copyright restrictions.

I was wondering when that game would come. I might pick it up with the $20 I'm getting back.

I completely forgot about that game's existence, mainly due to the fact it was announced for the US & then pretty much nothing else was talked about. Think the last I heard of it was from August 2012......not to mention it was announced for the US & Europe in August 2011.

I knew I forgot to do something. PS+ renewed today automatically - if I'd have done it a week ago, I'd have gotten $10 back. Whoops.

The rare pure blade-shoe drop in that game was killer.
What are the chances that Okami HD will be discounted during the Spring Fever sale? Has it ever been lower than it's current $19.99 price point?
i've still got my fingers crossed for it on vita. please, please, gaming gods.

how dare they give away $10 shoes when you're only paying $4 a month.
ok, I just created a new facebook account (decided to make it for a character I'm fond of), so we'll see if anything comes of this. Couple more questions (if you don't mind):

Can these be stacked, or can I use another after the 30 days run out?
Do I need CC info to redeem on my account?
Can I play the content on my name account (I think I already know the answer, but wanted to confirm)?
eurogamer.net still has PS+ trial codes available, you just have to join their site.

Trying to get through PS+ backlog and just skipping through games I'm not too interested in, but have a question:

Zombie Apocalypse, the third mission end sequence seems to ramp up difficulty very high in.short order, and my team in single player is getting killed faster than I can heal them. Am I missing something? Do I need to replay the first two levels over a lot to build the characters? was going to move on but seem odd to hit a wall so fast

If you're getting killed at all, you're not playing defensively enough. There was no real need for grinding in that game.

Ok. I am just carelessly running and.gunning. the first two levels are so stupidly easy I didn't think ofanother way to play, lol. Long week. Brain exhausted.....

Level 3 is the hardest level in the game. Although AkariK says you don't need to, I played level 2 repeatedly to upgrade my weapons and special abilities for everyone to at least level 3 I think.

Tempting to get The Walking Dead at that 10.00 price. But is the game really worth it? I hear it plays kind of like Sam & Max, and I hated that game so much. It was so boring and the controls were horrible...

play the first episode. If you don't like it, you would probably have a hard time getting into the rest, though personally I loved it (and this is coming from someone that just finish the first episode of BTtF and did not enjoy it one bit). Easily their best work:applause:

Would someone that's never watched the show or read the comics enjoy the game at all? (Stupid Netflix backlog)

It's not at all related to the show, and I've never read the comics/graphics novels, and loved it. So yes, most definitely I think anyone would enjoy it:applause:
