GTA3 has widescreen support that you enable in the menus. It looks fine to me. All three games have the option.
From the video it almost looks like a Dynasty Warriors type game where you're just running out fighting nameless mooks.
Eh, I'll give it a try.

Honestly, I'm working on Lego Lord of the Rings for now. (Although I don't quite like how it's set up w/o a hub world)
Except that it's not. You're facing the giant boss and the little guys are there to kill for mana that you use to attack the boss. I explain the general strategy of that level and the controls in a post above.

If you are playing Dragon Fantasy, be sure to save frequently. I've had it freeze once and crash once (so far), and checking the Gamefaqs board, I'm not alone. Just a heads up for those playing it.

Console freeze? I had to hard reset my new ps3 super way to much lately on def so trying to avoid more of it.

PS3 or Vita? Or both? I plan to play mostly on the Vita, so hopefully no issues there.

Yes, console freeze. And it's on the PS3 version, the one Vita user I saw in the thread hasn't had an issue. Unfortunately, I don't have a Vita yet to personally try it.

That stinks, was going to play it this weekend. Hopefully they get it patched. Any chance it has to do with the PS3 being connected to the internet that's causing it, like it has for some other games in the past?

Anyone else really not like the Soul Sacrafice demo? I know some people have mentioned combat being weird, but I just tried it out and I don't think I've been as bored as I just was playing that game. Recently having played Ragnarok for Vita, I'm not sure I can deal with a game that's so similar to it.

I'll get it when it's $20 in a couple months.

On the other hand...I agree with everyone that Guacamelee is awesome. I got it based on all the hype here, and honestly had no idea it was Metroidvania until I started playing. Super excited when I found that out. Anyone do hard mode yet? Is it real tough?

I really disliked SS at first, but over time I grew to enjoy it. I don't think SS is the system seller we all hoped it would be, though I did think it was an interesting game.

lol thats fine, I just have another copy coming in soon and trying to gather people to play with since I heard online is full of hackers again. I've only been through the game once and have some DLC though. Level 30 something Assassin. ill add you once it arrives
Only :bomb:Jaguar Javier:bomb: gave me problems on hard mode.
Really? I thought he was pretty easy. Just don't aim for any long combos. Poke with the forward+O move and just focus on dodging. If it staggers him, then you can go in for a short combo and throw. The only moves you absolutely need to learn are his battle aura and his full screen dash (because you can't roll through it).

The thing I dislike about Soul Sacrifice and Ragnarok Odyssey is the fact that you load individual missions that feel more like instances. I'm not sure why it bugs me, but I'd rather have a large map with load zones.

Huh. I bought Malicious for a few bucks when it was on sale months ago. I still havent even played it. I guess its not that big a deal, id rather pay a low price and not have to worry about losing games when the PSN is gone or if i let PS+ expire.
Sony changed it to 2 systems ages ago. Maybe instead of whining, actually pay attention sometime you might would have known that.

but yea fuck YOU SONY for making people wait a whole day to get something i mean shit you know we do nothing but refresh the psn store every 5 mins and dont do shit else.
Pay attention? Sorry but i hardly use my PS3, so this is the first time i noticed. If you read the post you would know i have a PS3 downstairs that is kinda the group PS3, my old fat which stopped playing disks after an update, and a newer slim i got to replace the fat. So my choice is Use the new one and the group one downstairs and have my old fat be a complete BRICK. or use the new one and the old fat which is only 40gb.. pretty shitty

Honestly theres no friggin reason they cant just do it like Xbox and just require you to be online. Not my fault they use a stupid restrictive system like that

And people aren't just bitching about the inconsistency of the update times. They're bitching about how generally crappy the whole PSN seems to be most of the time, which includes the inconsistancy/downtime of the PSN. Maybe YOU should stop whining and pay some fucking attention yourself
It's been that way since November 2011, they changed it to discourage 5 way gamesharing. There was a big fuss, but then everyone forgot about it pretty quickly. I'm guessing 98% of PS3 owners only have one system, so it didn't effect the majority of people's individual use. I'm sorta surprised you owned multiple PS3s and didn't know this (only because us nerds usually follow this stuff ;)) but there isn't any way around it, I'm afraid, short of deactivating a system every time you swap out.
*sigh* ya thanks, that seems to be the case. Really really stuipd system. Seriously, why not just require you to be online to verify its you like Xbox does? Japanese companies dont seem to get how the internet works. Both Sony and Nintendo are terrible with their online network structure.

This even screws me with regular games i bought disc copies of. Crap like Batman with the catwoman DLC that you had to enter a code for instead of it just being on the disk. Yeesh what a pain in the damn ass. If the fat still played disks id deactivate that one, but since it doesn't i have to either let that become the brick, or lose the ability to play most of my stuff downstairs

i know I've had to deactivate my account on an xbox to play any of my downloadable stuff. And I've only even bought 2 xbox's.

Hmm i was eyebaling Dragon Fantasy Book I, looked interesting. But im reading some posts here about problems with it. Im guessing this sale was the games launch? I was thinking of giving it a shot but maybe it would be best to wait for it to be patched and go on a better sale. I think its only like 20% off right now
i know I've had to deactivate my account on an xbox to play any of my downloadable stuff. And I've only even bought 2 xbox's.
Nope, thats not how it works. Ive gone through 3 dead xbox's, and currently have 5 working ones (3 plugge din and in regular use). You dont have to deactivate crap. In the past it was a hassle but these days its really simple. You set one as your main and all the stuff is registered to that. If you want to use the content on another system you just have to be signed on to XBL to use it. I dont get why Sony cant adopt the online verification system

The only sale Malicious has had was the $2 Plus discount when it was first released.

Yeah that's when I picked it up and the discount wasn't much. It looked interesting so I decided to support them.

Have you finished the campaign missions yet? The game opens up a lot once you open up the Avalon quests; it gives you several new character customization systems and allows you to fuse spells to create new ones. The hunts are also significantly tougher (though only one is actually what I would call "hard") and give you much more reason to actually mix up attacks and combat styles. I was feeling pretty skeptical for the first hour, but now I'm feeling pretty confident about a purchase.

For me Soul Sacrifice demo just cemented my $30 preorder. Hell, anyone that was lucky enough to grab a bunch of vita titles from the $10 off preorder specials should keep all of them haha.

If I don't like them (which one or two I didn't) then I just resell them on ebay and come out even. But I'm pretty sure this one will be a keeper for me anyways.

just started okami, been playing for over 20 minutes and so far been able to do NOTHING but press X. super long story cutscene that appears unskippable that you must press X every 10 words or so.

im ready to give up on the game and i havent officially started it.

Could someone tell me how the PS2 classics stuff works? Do you have normal savegames or do you have to go through the "memory card emulator" nonsense that you have to do with the PS1 games?

They don't work on the memory card system. They have a save system just like a normal PS3 game.

Good news. Thanks! Might pick up Vice City this week and see if I have better luck with the control scheme on the console.

Nice, I'll rebuy it if it ever gets down to $10 or so.

Yeah, there is way too much dialogue in the game. Some of the text you're able to fast-scroll, and some of it you can't. But to be fair, most games with a story start like that, specifically Zelda games which Okami was clearly modeled after.

I'm about three-fourths of the way through Guacamelee on Hard mode after already beating it on Normal. The only change I've noticed is that you take MUCH more damage when hit by enemies, but I don't think Hard mode increases the number of enemies or how they attack you. It also appears that all platforming sections remain the same. Though, another poster mentioned the Jaguar fight being much more difficult on Hard mode... I will get to him tonight. I can see that particular fight being pretty challenging on Hard mode, but overall the mode is not too bad at all, especially if you've already played through the game on Normal.
20minutes such a long time
with a backlog as big as mine and a schedule that allows less and less time for games lately it sure is. at this rate ill be finishing all my ps3 games by the time ps5 comes out.

I'm also really enjoying Guacamelee. I decided to connect the Vita with the PS3 just to see what co-op was like in that way and was surprised to see the Vita works as the map. Not that it's hard to quickly pull up the map but it's just a neat feature. (I've never messed with a Wii-U . lol) I'm excited to see what ways the PS4 and Vita integrate. Yeah, it will probably be another gimmicky type thing, but I much prefer that over six axis or motion controls in general.

Graff^ , I agree and plan on at least finishing the content in the demo before a final decision. The main thing that got me was trying to figure out the weapons and spells. I still don't really understand what is going on when combining things or why I run out. Then the spells that take health to use. It is just a little overwhelming. Crazy amount of content for a demo, though. I was trying to think of the last demo that was even somewhat close and the only thing that comes to mind was that crappy GTA type game on PSP that they sent out UMDs of the demo, Streets of London maybe? But that was still under an hour of content, I think. I'm already over that in SS and haven't finished or played MP yet.

Brief rundown of what I've figured out in SS regarding the spells and such. This might help people get some enjoyment where they're struggling or something.

Each spell that you bring to battle (and you can bring six) acts either as a spell which you cast directly (like the healing seeds or the fists that punch up from the ground), a melee weapon which is equipped for a certain amount of time (ice sword, axe, elemental giant fists), or a projectile weapon which you ready and then fire with either the face button or the right trigger (the chakram things, mortars, and other such things). Each time you cast a spell or ready a melee weapon you consume a charge of the spell, and these charges are limited. If you completely deplete a spell then the item that you used to fuel that spell (the token you equipped on the arsenal screen) is destroyed completely and permanently, you don't get it back and you can't refill it for the duration of the stage. This is preceded by a message that you're about to run out of that spell and its icon on the UI will blink red. You can refill non-destroyed spells during a mission by finding special locations on a map to refill your sacrifices - these show up as upwardly-flowing white streams in minds-eye mode (down on the D-pad). They don't restore to full, just a few charges, and these are also limited. This resource-intensive approach to combat is where most of the tension comes from, making tough missions a battle of attrition rather than just health and damage. Also any non-destroyed spell items will be replenished to full after a mission, so if you're careful you shouldn't run out of spell items.

There are two ways to manage your spells (though they don't get unlocked until late in the demo): fusing and boosting. Boosting combines two (or perhaps more, later on) spell items of the same type to make one improved version, generally holding additional charges than the original version, this is pretty straightforward, and can be taken to higher levels. If you have four "sword of herpderp" you can combine them into two "sword of herpderp *" and then combine those into one "sword of herpderp **". Fusing is more complicated, but basically it allows you to create new spell types by fusing existing spells. Fusing the chakram with the ice shield gets you some sort of ice thorn projectile, for example. When fusing any boosted levels are lost, so you'll start back at the base number of charges for the spell.

Once you get past the laughably easy missions it becomes a matter of outfitting yourself with a variety of complementary spells, and alternating between attack styles so that your trips to replenish your spells will allow you to last the battle without breaking any of them. Elemental weaknesses are important, and fusing spells lets you create a variety of different spell types for each element. Given that this is just a small sampling of spells, I think that the system will be quite robust and engrossing later on in the game.

There are also a few other special systems. You can carve sigils into your arms which boost stats or create effects, you can equip one-time-use megaspells which sacrifice a body part for a massive boost, but carry penalties which will last to the end of the mission - and even into other missions if you don't treat your wounds. And, yes, some of the spells are cast with health which means that their number of charges isn't limited, they're only limited by your health pool.

Basically, the point of all this is that while at first it feels like you have a few strange and disparate attacks but all you really need to do is pull out your ice sword and slash away, you'll actually need to be smart about using different spell types once your training wheels are taken off.

Final note: I'm not trying to be condescending or tell anyone they ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO LIKE THE GAME AND IF YOU DON'T YOU'RE JUST STUPID. I'm just giving a quick rundown of stuff to maybe help people get a handle on things and see that perhaps there's more at work than they initially thought, and maybe give it a second look if they otherwise might not have.
just started okami, been playing for over 20 minutes and so far been able to do NOTHING but press X. super long story cutscene that appears unskippable that you must press X every 10 words or so.

im ready to give up on the game and i havent officially started it.
I love Okami, but this isn't boding well for you so far. It will actually be a few hours before you get to the "meat" of the game. But once you do get there, it is incredible. I'll hold out hope for you!

Good rundown - I'm not falling over myself in love with the demo, but it's definitely got my attention. One very minor note (but one that made me nuts), the color of the hue around your enemy in mind's eye gives an idea of how close to death they are. If you're sacrificed in multiplayer you can see everything's actual health bars, but otherwise (as far as I can tell) there's no other way to get more specific knowledge as to how close to death something is. If you're in co-op it's not a terrible idea to bring an AoE healing spell along if you can spare a slot. And the chat window slides out from the right.

I used my Vita on the PS3 last night for Guacamelee too, and I'm pretty pleased with the way it works. Exploring for 100% means constant map referencing and having it always on the Vita screen is very helpful. Id love to see more games take advantage of this, and I bet anything that Rayman Legends ends up playing much the same way as the WiiU version if they're smart.

EDIT: fixed.

Thanks for this Frisky. I'm loving what I see and want to take the plunge, but have way too many other rpg's I've got to work on. Any idea how long Dragon Fantasy is? If it's under 10 hours I'll bite. Any more and I'll likely have to pass.

Here are the videos I recorded of the PS2 Classics versions of GTA3 and Vice City:

From what people were saying about the iOS version, it's about 3-5 hours per chapter, of which there are three, though there's an additional chapter set in a Minecraft world.
