That's correct. Both the Campaign and the free multiplayer are mandatory downloads. I know it says "free" for the multiplayer option, but it is needed in order for you to be able to play the campaign.

I was hoping this was the case but I'm running into some problems. I've installed both the campaign and 2D movies files, but the game still isn't showing up as playable in my games folder. I have all the files downloaded now but was hoping to be able to pass on installing all of them. The only files I have left to install are the MP, 3D movies, and language files.

Am I missing something?
You need to download and install the free to play multiplayer (I think it's about 4 gigs). The campaign is technically an add-on pack for the multiplayer on PSN.

I don't know if this has been said already but the PSASBR on PSN includes the Ps Vita Version as well for the $14. Thought I was downloading the PS3 version today and was pleasantly surprised to see I got the Vita version as well. I know the disc based version came with both but was unaware the download did to.
Really? I didn't see any mention of it on the page which is why I was going to pass... still, might prefer a physical copy so I can at least sell it once it hits PS+.

That's ass-backwards, but problem solved. Thanks!

Hi guys!  Need some advice.  So I finally decided to upgrade my 160 GB Slim PS3 Hard Drive to a 500 GB one last night for Plus after getting the dreaded you do not have enough Hard Drive space last week when adding Uncharted 3 to my download list.  But right after the exchange and putting the older HDD into an external USB case, both my Windows 7 and Vista laptops didn't list it under My Computer.

When I plugged it into the 2 laptops, I can hear a sound, followed by the message that a new device was installed successfully.  I can also see the external USB drive under the Device Manager, but I just can't see it under My Computer so I can't reformat the drive or do anything else to it.

I also tried locating the External USB drive is not there under Admin Tools > Computer Management > Storage. and it's not there.  The only drive that's there is my laptop's HDD.  It's also not under My Computer either.  But I can see the external USB drive under Device Manager, though I can't format it there.  I tried uninstalling it from there, and then scan for hardware change, which brought it back, but still couldn't see it under My Computer.  I read that some people were recommending changing the drive designation of the external USB to something else, but there was no option to do that.

Did Sony place some sort of protection on their drive to prevent piracy, rendering it useless after an upgrade?  It seems a bit harsh since Sony advertises that the PS3 HDDs are upgradeable.

I appreciate the help.

I'm thinking about picking up Dishonored today from Gamefly, so now I have to quickly decide if I want to grab the DLC while it's on sale.  Damn it, and like io mentioned earlier, I'm finally out of my stocked up PSN cards/points!

What about if you click the start button and type fdisk into the search bar and hit enter? Should bring up disk management. Do you see it there?

This is a step in the right direction, it would be under Admin Tools>Computer Management>Storage> Disk Management. Chances are it's trying to map to a drive that already exists. When plugged in you should see the drive as a removable device. From disk management you should be able to assign a new drive letter, right click on the volume (the hard drive) and choose change drive letter and paths. I don't believe sony setup any restrictions on the drive. Hope this helps.

Yup! I see the drive listed as Disk 1, with my laptop's HDD listed as Disk 0. But I don't see where I can change the drive letter and path. Right clicking Disk 1 gives me the options to Convert to Dynamic Disk or Convert to GPT disk and Properties. Under Properties > Volumes, it's blank under the Volume and Capacity. But under the Disk Management, right next to the Disk 1, which is the 160 GB external USB in question, it does list 149.05 GB as Unallocated. But Disk Management doesn't list it under Volume. It only lists the OSDisk (C:) and Recovery (D:) (both of which are the Disk 0 and have solid blue lines (which indicate the Primary Partitions) above it. The Disk 1 has a solid black line (which indicates the Unallocated Partition) above it. The unallocated partition, my original PS3 Slim 160 GB HDD now in an external USB housing, has no drive designation, so I can't select it to change path.

I'm trying to be as detailed as I can, so I'm hoping I'm not confusing anyone. I have a screen grab saved as PNG file, but with the new transition over to this server, I don't see an option to attach an image here.

Try to highlight Disk 1 (the box with the black line) and then in the menu choose actions. Do you have change drive letter there?

No. I don't, unfortunately. I only have Create VHD and Attach VHD under Action. If I choose All Tasks under Action, I get Convert to Dynamic Disk, Convert to GPT Disk, and Detach VHD.

If I click on the 149.05 GB Unallocated part, I have the option New Simple Volume. Then the New Simple Volume comes up, which allows me to create a new volume here and designate a drive letter and to format it to NTFS or exFAT. I was hoping to be able to keep the same PS3 format so that I can use it to back up my PS3 data in the future, but I don't see an option to reformat it to FAT32.

Thanks for the help Jkam. I went ahead and did that. I am also using Windows 7 to format my 160 GB HDD to FAT32 right now. Just run cmd and then type format /FS:FAT32 X: with X being your drive letter to format drives larger than 32 GB. You can do this on Windows XP as well.

Create the simple volume and then get a third party tool to format it to FAT32. You will need it anyway to format a drive larger than 32GB. Something like this:

http://www.pendriveapps.com/format-fat32-larger-than-32gb/

As long as you don't need any data on the drive, the format can always be changed.

Cool, good to know you can do it right in a Windows 7 command prompt. Thanks. I keep putting off upgrading my PS3 drive but I think I'm going to do it soon as well.

Me, too. I've been putting off doing so for the past 2 years. And then I went Plus last month when Sleeping Dogs came out. It was hard, but I had to delete so many game data that it took me so long to download over the years in the first place, and that I wanted to keep, just to free up 51 GB, which I thought was good and sufficient, since I mainly just play one major game and then delete it off my HDD. The only games that are permanantly on the HDD are the COD and BF3 shooting games and all their DLCs, which take up significant space.

Finally, last week when I tried to download Uncharted 3 to my download list, I already have the hard copy of it, it tells me I need 78 GB of free space. After much delibration, I went ahead and upgraded it to a 500 GB WD Scorpion Blue drive I had purchased over a year ago for the said upgrade. Everything went smoothly, and took no time at all. If I can return the favor and answer any question before you start your upgrading for helping me out today, let me know. There are things that you need to do first before removing the hard drive and such. Take care.

Edit: Well. The Windows 7 cmd prompt formated my 160 GB hard drive up to around 127 GB. It doesn't seem to be able to work with a partitian larger than that. Just an FYI.

Cool, good to know you can do it right in a Windows 7 command prompt. Thanks. I keep putting off upgrading my PS3 drive but I think I'm going to do it soon as well.

Thank you. Yeah I've read up on it. I know I can backup to another drive first, which I may or may not even do. I have Plus already so my saves are uploaded to the cloud. I know I need another usb drive for the firmware once the drive is replaced. Probably a good idea to do a trohpy sync prior to swap. Anything I'm missing?

I played for a few days before I realized I wasn't ranking up in Uncharted 3's multiplayer. Lame that you have to purchase it. I have an online pass from when I physically purchased the game, so I should get access to the multiplayer.

I guess I waffled too long on ACIII and Tomb Raider at 20.00 each.  Oh well, they will be mine soon enough on disc rather than digital at that price.  I'll just be missing out on the Tomb Raider bundle, but I already have Quantum Conundrum, so the benefits are mute.

Starting pretty early, glad I picked up the Dishonored DLC pretty quickly after I snagged a copy from the gamefly sale for $12.99.
Yeah I hesitated and they took it down before I purchased. I guess that's probably good though, I probably shouldn't be buying DLC for a game I've never played before.

Flow & Flower are on sale, $2.79 ($1.40 on PS+) for fl0w and $3.49 ($1.75 PS+) for Flower.
Wow those are good prices. I wish that's how much I had paid for them, especially considering how little I actually enjoyed them.

Flower is a great buy at that price. Very relaxing, and incredibly beautiful, I remember hearing it best described as a video game poem. I think I will pick up fl0w to complete my thatgamecompany collection, though I've no clue what it actually is like.

I shouldn't be looking at this LBP sale, really tempting to just throw money at it when I haven't even launched 2 or Karting.  Good thing there doesn't seem to be any additional Plus discount or I would for sure.

Surprisingly, Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard is $9.99.

If you want a free theme, there's a TMNT theme based on the Nick show and not the hideous new game that's free.

Hahahaha! They are pretty ugly, but the trailer with Michelangelo looked surprisingly good. Thanks, though, I'll get the theme.

I'm not usually that guy, but the word is "moot" not "mute".

Yeah! I saw that, too. But patience is key on Tuesdays as always. Grabbing Saint Row the 3rd now.

Frisky! Your videos are always nicely done. Thanks.

Yeah, it's going in waves. Like Gods Eater Burst was alternating between free and $20 for about 15 minutes.

I know I briefly glimpsed at them yesterday but I can't remember; what do these LBP bits of DLC usually go for regular price?
Double them to find out. I believe that counts for everything on the LBP list.

As a heads-up, the LBP sale has appeared in the PS+ section of the web store, so don't buy any of that stuff just yet. There may be PS+ discounts coming on top of what's there.

That's what I thought but wasn't sure. I hope/dread that it is, really tempted by the Watchmen costumes and Marvel Pack 3, though I know my daughter will want Spiderman too.

Now that...is very adorable!

I think I want Flower but I think I might as well wait for the Vita version since I'd probably play it there sooner than the PS3 version.
