Don't buy and play a game just because it's cheap.

Consider what your time is worth to you and what you might rather be doing than suffering through a bad experience.

So my PS3 just died on me a few nights ago and I have a couple of PS+ related questions I was hoping someone could answer:

1. My current PS+ subscription expires in September and I have a one-year card that I never got to use. Is there a benefit to using that card now (via Sony's website) rather than waiting until I actually get a new PS3? From what I read in the FAQ, I can get all the PS+ games I downloaded even if it lapses for a few months.

2. I plan on downloading any new games that come up as long as I'm a Plus member via Sony's website, so if I do let my Plus expire and then renew it a few months later, the games I downloaded even from Sony's website should be available to me on my new console, correct?

3. There were a couple of free games I had sitting in my download management screen so I could claim them before they went away for good but I didn't download them fully. Are these games gone or can I re-download them on my new system?

I know these are kind of oddly specific scenarios but I just don't want to lose any of the value of PS+ especially since I just signed up for it. I plan on possibly getting a new PS3 on Black Friday unless a significant price drop occurs beforehand.
1. The only benefit would be that you would still be able to add stuff to your download list during the months you don't have your PS3 online via the website. Then, you would be able to grab those games off the download list along with the others when you do get your PS3.

2. Yes. But remember, if your PS+ is expired, you won't be able to download the PS+ stuff on the website without a membership.

3. As long as you "purchased" the items while they were free, they will be on your download list and you can grab them anytime you want.

Hope that helps.

I will try to answer as best I know. Any games that are checked out with in the store are linked to your account. You don't need to have downloaded it. I usually don't download my plus stuff until I'm actually ready to play. They will always be linked to your account to redownload even if you let the subscription lapse. You won't be able to play them while its lapsed but you will when you re subscribe. You should be able to download any of the plus games that you have completed the check out procedure on the store with when you get your new ps3. Just keep in mind that games are now maxed out at 2 systems so if you redownload one that you previously activated on your old system that's it as far as what systems the games can be installed on

Anybody please correct me if I'm wrong on anything.

Hope my rambling helped a little.

***EDIT****

Damn my slow fingers. Your Q was A'd before I A'd your Q.

That trailer was awful. I could do a better one that made you look forward to your next colonoscopy than that piece of junk.
Someone should get fired when the trailer doesn't make it look like Half-Life. You're only working with 1-2 minutes most of the time and if you do it right you only have to show maybe 30 seconds.

I found a few lists online, though I'm not sure if they are what you are looking for:

All upcoming Vita games: http://www.ign.com/games/upcoming/vita

Every Vita game released or announced: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_Vita_games

List of upcoming indie games (includes PS3/4 though): http://www.computerandvideogames.com/397868/spelunky-among-14-indie-games-coming-to-ps3-vita/

Hopefully these are at least somewhat helpful, I couldn't find a perfect list either.
Atelier Meruru Plus: The Apprentice of Arland PlayStation Vita wonder if that is going to be cart or download only like the other vita one.. like to buy it but hate to spend 40 for a download

I need a 1920x1080 version of that picture showing all the PS+ offerings from this last year. Then I can use it as my desktop background and feel shame every time I look at it and realize I probably didn't even play half of those games. At least I finished Sleeping Dogs and Trine 2 this week.

Edit: Oops. It is 1920x966. Close enough.

definitely helpful.

added some to the list... right now, including some recent releases, i've got:

luftwaffa
velocity ultra
guacamelee
lone survivor
hotline mianma
Terraria
frozen synapse
velocity ultra
tokyo jungle (psm version... tile based strategy?)
Luftrausers
pixel junk monsters ultimate
spelunky
the binding of isaac
1001 spikes
dive kick
metrico
limbo
proteus

Consider these for your list...

Thomas Was Alone
Men's Room Mayhem
Machinarium
Rymdkapsel (PlayStation Mobile game, no trophies, but at $4.99 and 5 to 10 hours of addicting gameplay, I thought well worth it.)

Don't think you can redeem a PS+ code on the website, it'll tell you it has to be done on a console.

Okay. I've got about $0.70 left in my PSN wallet, staring at me.

...is Hydrophobia at all worth the $0.60?

The trailer looked pretty, uh... not amazing... but I do need an excuse to play with my Move, and for $0.60, maybe it's, I dunno... okay...? Has anyone actually played it?
I paid $5 for it and didn't regret it. It's not that bad of a game. When it released it was, but the devs did do a lot to shine it up and make it at least a tolerable 5-6 hour adventure.

Also, it's 60 fucking cents. It's really about whether you want to put your time towards playing the game, not the cost at this point.

I don't think I've even been able to redeem a PS+ code online before.

So apparently zero escape does not have auto save? I played through the first couple hours and put the game on hold. I had updates installed which quit the game and went back to play again only to have to start fr the beginning. How do games not have auto save in this day and age?

No auto-save. Enjoy reading the story again lol or go stop then skip.

My time: 56hrs reading the novel.

I can't believe anyone would have to consider it for this price. The two minutes you spent contemplating the purchase probably cost you more than 60 cents. Here are some reasons why you should consider picking it up:

1). It's actually a decent game.
2). The game had major flaws previously and was revamped significantly. Not many devs would do that, and I guess they shouldn't since this one went bankrupt for it.
3). Buying a game for a super-low price may encourage other devs to price their games low if it moves enough volume.
4). In this always-online age, you have a cheap thrill here by gambling with 60 cents. Don't read any reviews, live dangerously. (Also, the reviews would have been for before the game was patched.)

I was trying to figure out if it was worth it after hearing its a bad game. It's cheaper than iPhone games so what the hell I guess.

I did hear it has a cliffhanger which is a turn off since the game will never be concluded. Given that prospect it's probably not worth a purchase...

Has ICO ever been on sale on PSN? I love the price on SotC, but if ICO doesn't go down I'm better off buying the collection.

man, i am in such desperate need of a 64 or bigger card.  i've got around $26 burning in my wallet, around $200 of games i want, but everytime i go to buy something i stress out about what to delete.  lol.

Why? You don't need them on your memory card unless you're going to play them.

I just flipped Ico collection at gamestop. metacritic has it in the 90's, but i just couldnt stand it.

i tried to do a run this week and it just turned into me watching youtube and copying everything they did.

I did that for about 30 mins and then i said screw it. $5 for SotC and it's an infinately better game.

Totally agree, way overrated and not fun for me.
I've been looking forward to playing the collection since I never played either game. Why's it overrated? Is it just a bunch of puzzles or something that requires walkthroughs? Confused about the youtube reference.

I personally enjoyed it. I only got stuck once or twice and had to look up what to do. Ico is an experience though, it's not about the gameplay. The connection between the two characters is what the game about.

Well with SOTC being on sale, there will likely be a large amount of gamers that buy it and deciding to just ditch the whole collection. So large volume of used ICO Collections might bring the cost down for you to get the physical copy.

Why? You don't need them on your memory card unless you're going to play them.
if i remove it from my memory card, for me it's basically gone forever. i'm not going to dig around my download list or even remember i have it on my pc or something. i go to play a game and i want a bubble for it, else... i might as well not own it.

the only games i want to delete are games i hate.

i will delete games i've enjoyed but beaten and won't play again (say, my plat in Uncharted:GA)... but only under duress. I'd rather have them. obviously can't at this point.

so now i'm down to slowly decimating my PS1 collection on my vita to make room for my games.

I realize some people don't mind shuffling games on a 4 gig. I couldn't do that. I want everything available at my fingertips, else i might as well not even own it.

Put it this way - if a game is so far down my priority list that I decide to delete it, what reason would i have to go through the trouble of redownloading it (if i even remember it?). So given that, deleting it effectively means it's gone forever... which i hate doing for games i haven't beaten yet.

It isn't a bad game. I had the collection sitting in my backlog for some time now, but the $5 SotC sale made me want to play Ico or flip it at gamestop. I checked metacritic and it was all 90's, but I was wary cuz they were talking about art direction and music etc, not really gameplay. but they said the same about SotC, but i really dug the gameplay in that game. but yeah it seems like it is just an escort mission the whole game through, and not the fun Leon/Ashley escort missions. Like you literally have to hold the button to hold her hand and drag her to every new location. and then the badguys just interrupt any flow. my kids said wow this is a chill game while i am trying to fight off shadow monsters pulling the girl (Yorda?) into the ground stressing out.

The youtube comment was just cuz i was trying my best to beat the game quick. 2 of the trophies are even beating the game under 2 hours and under 4 hours. now i understand i could just chillax and figure it out and play the game through exploration and all that, but im on a flip schedule and i had to see whether i would keep it or trade it and buy sotc on psn. so i was watching youtube videos of what to do cuz sometimes you have to backtrack and leave her behind and etc. and even with watching the speedrun walkthroughs i was getting lost and like wtf and no one should play a game following a guide. there was no fun had by anyone that night. lol. but its all good. i try to pride myself on playing (or even platting) bad games, but that's 2 games already this summer that i just rage quit and traded in. (the other game being star trek, omg such a bad game, it didnt help i was playing co op with my wife on hard difficulty)

I liked Ico a lot. It is one big escort mission within a puzzle platformer with small amounts of combat. Maybe they are trying to get the 4 hour or 2 hour trophies for Icon, which I'm sure I couldn't do without a guide or video.

I do agree SOTC is the better game of the 2 though.

I've had the collection for almost a year and I've beat SotC 3 or 4 times but haven't ever played ICO. I guess I should. Without spoiling anything, are the two games related by the story? Just wondering based on how SotC went and when you look at the connecting places when selecting which game to play...

Anyways, thanks to Ceol_CAG. I forgot about that game being on sale and had 63 cents in my psn wallet. lol

The ending of SOTC ties into ICO. Having played SOTC first you should be able to pick up the link at the start of ICO.

I think some people think that Wander (the guy from SotC) is the same kid with the horns you are in Ico. No concrete connection, but that's bout it. I havn't beat Ico tho, so ymmv.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I will pick up the collection when it's on sale.

It's situations like this that ruin the fun in games. I've gone and turned off trophy notifications. Why trophies for a speed run would be in a game that's about the exploration I will never know. A lot of games do this shit and it ruins the game. I've permanently given up on trophies and achievements. It only took me the whole generation to learn that this.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I will pick up the collection when it's on sale.

Because you're supposed to do it on the second playthrough, not the first.

yeah i mean, it's fine cuz it's for people that really love the game. Silent Hill 2 had speed runs and perfect runs etc trophies, but I saved all those for my following playthroughs cuz i really loved the game. I know you shouldnt be trophy obsessed on a first run, but even without trophies or speed run, i just couldn't get into the game. It takes some tivs and sales to get me to plow through my backlog, so its a good thing before the tiv dropped even more, but Ico just wasnt the game for me. To each their own tho, and I know lots of people enjoy the game. but yeah collectibles and speed runs and higher difficulties are usually best for subsequent playthroughs, but I knew I wasnt going to be playing this 2 or 3 times, so i was just trying to do the best I could. The trophy count is abysmal on that game anyway, like maybe 14 trophies, so its mostly silvers and golds and a plat. I think i got maybe 1 trophy for Ico, the failure trophy for beating first 20% or so of game, lol.

and now with this crazy high amazon tiv, im gonna try to plow through trinity universe in a few days. good luck for that. i.e. i will play CoD 90% of the time next few days and spend a few hours on TU only to flip it anyway.

Can you rent (or buy) a movie on PS3 or PSP, start watching it on PS3 or PSP, then continue or watch it again on the opposite system? Like this: rent from PS3 -> watch on PSP -> finish watching on PS3.

I don't mind the speed run trophies as it asks you to play the game in a completely different manner than you did the first time. That keeps things interesting the second time through for me.

Damn, it's way high. Too bad for me that the platinum is a long one. I wonder how long it will stay at this level.

Hmm, to progress along the main story of XCOM, do I just pass time and complete the missions as they come?  Or do I have to complete those little objectives like "capture a live alien" before I can progress?

The story line is advanced by the special objectives, I think they're called high priority, that require capturing the alien or researching certain tech or whatever it is. On easy and normal you have as long as you want to complete those but on the higher difficulties if you don't complete them quick enough you'll lose.

Haven't started XCOM yet, i will tag along a question if anybody is so kind to answer me: is the difficulty adjustable on the fly? Sometimes my wife may want to play and she wants to play on easy.

Yes it is. You can just hit the start button, go into options and select to change the difficulty anytime you like. Cheers!

I believe that like most games this does kill trophies so be aware of that if you're close to getting one.

ico is such a beautiful game.  i played it ages ago (on my old BC ps3) before i cared a damn about trophies (and before ps3 games had them, i think?).   it's a fantastic game in it's own way, and i thought it held up pretty well.    but i can't imagine doing a speed run on it.

So am I the only one excited for Tuesday's update? I cant wait. Timing is perfect as well. My genetics final is Monday so Ill be free for a couple of weeks. :D Time to tackle my mini VITA backlog.

I don't know. I'm with Velo on Ico. I played Ico a long time ago on the PS1 when everyone was having high praises for the game. It was too much of a chore for me with Ico. I wanted so much to carry on, but I just couldn't. I care more for gameplay than graphics. The fact that I haven't picked up Ico/SotC combo yet is a testament of my adversion to playing Ico again. It's just an opinion. I know that there are a lot of people here who absolutely love that game. I'm just not one of them.

PS1 huh? Either that was one special PS1 you had or you're thinking of a different game. ;) I don't think anyone ever praised ICO for it's graphics, artistic direction maybe but definitely not it's graphics.

Also, OMG game breaking Last of Us bug... I seriously want to cry a little right now.

I'm gonna lump on the Ico hating here, I was extremely disappointed with the game when I played it on PS2.  I actually turned a profit on the game which was nice at least, but the actual gameplay was pretty barebones and never hooked me.  I do love SotC and think it's one of the best PS2 games.

Ico was originally made for the PS1 before being moved to the PS2, which is shown in one of the making-of videos on the disc version of the collection. I'd find it hard to believe that anybody outside of the developer/publisher would have played that version of the game.

Ah I didn't know that tidbit, explains a lot about the graphics even in comparison to other early gen PS2 games.

Ah alrighty. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I never really could get into ICO either. Maybe it was do to playing it after SotC (one of my all time favorite PS2 games), but it just doesn't hold up that well. I don't think it's bad per say, and if you do manage to get past the very slow first couple hours it gets a lot better, but I'm not sure I would ever care to go through it again. I also really liked the art design, but that is rather typical for me (arthouse games = my biggest blind buys).
