Why does every really good single player game have to add on a completely useless MP portion? I was already worried that RockSteady was not making this one and now this :(
You played this already? That can be the only way you know it's completely useless and going to be the terrible mess you assume it is. How about we wait until it's out and maybe not make idiotic assumptions based on ONE video?

love to see Ragnarok Odyssey in aug. but it will be 2 psp games once again. got myself a kindle hd so most my time will go into that

i mostly gave up on the psn+ for vita games until winter
2 PSP games once again? When did they have just 2 PSP games?

Also, to the person who mentioned Rayman, that's on my list as well, but I'm waiting for it to drop to $10 first. For a system that supposedly has no games, I'm sure finding a lot of games I want to play!
honestly, the 'no games' thing is a myth. that was said about the ps3 for years too, and just as wrong.

i'm sure if you bought a vita day 1 there were some rough spells, but anyone buying one now has a library that will keep them busy for a very long time. the vita's become my primary gaming system, and i've had it a year and there's no end in sight to my vita backlog.

i know you're just trolololing and all, but i'm curious... what month did we get 2 psp games and no vita games? hrm?

I bought a Vita day one and I've never not had anything to play. Anyone who says the Vita doesn't have games is missing out on a really awesome system. At least it's no Wii U.

Yeah a lot of new Vita owners end up saying this. I guess there aren't a ton of AAA and "bro gamer" titles, but if you enjoy even a small variety of genres, you should be able to find lots of games to play on the Vita.

Careful guys, this game's "troublesome presentation of women prevent it from transcending its juvenile influences." Don't say you weren't warned!

The new PlayStation Mobile title Ten By Eight has a really cool trailer:

There's more information on the blog post here.
That was excellent. Thanks for posting. I loved him pumping iron for no reason!

How are the recommendations for the Journey/TUS Bundle? I've beaten Journey before and it was quite short, but I want to go back and get all the trophies again. I've also heard some good things about TUS as well. At $15 is it a good buy?
Depends if you are PS+, unfinished Swan has been $3.75 and Journey has been $7.35 a couple of times on sale for PS+.

So heads up -- there's a bug that I wanted to alert all of my fellow PS+ folk to.

When you get a PS+ freebie there's an expiration date attached to it (obviously). Normally you can't buy these games until they expire. But in cases where you purchase these items as part of a bundle before the expiration lapses, a glitch can deprive you of ownership of your purchase.

Let's say you're subscribed to Plus through 1 December, and that you downloaded (for instance) Labyrinth Legends as a freebie, then later purchased the Creat bundle which went on sale a few weeks ago and includes LL. If you look at your media list on account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com, you'll notice that the expiration date for LL does *not* go away.

Moreover, say you renew Plus for a year, the date on LL will not change to 1 December 2014 -- it'll stay exactly as is. Purchasing the item doesn't erase the expiration like it ought to. In fact it cements it into place completely, such that come 2 December you'll lose ownership of it even though your Plus is still active -- this after you've "purchased" it twice!

This happened to me with the original Magic:DOTP, Costume Quest, and Virtua Fighter 5 last month. Months ago I had received all three as PS+ freebies and later bought the bundles which include the games and all DLC. Later I renewed Plus through 2015, but last month all three of them expired. They flat-out vanished from my download list, though all the DLC in the bundles (which never had expiration dates attached) remained.

Had to contact Sony technical support to fix this, and their solution was refunding my purchases and removing all three bundles from my account altogether. I know I've seen others suffer from this glitch too -- several people reported downloading the first two Walking Dead episodes as freebies, then losing them after the expiration date because they bought the full season pass.

So be careful buying bundles containing already-claimed freebies. If you're like me and have untold tons of downloads in your media list, you may never even notice what's gone missing.

Wait, Sony is mailing us cart based games with PS+?

Last time I checked, Dokuro had a Japanese retail (cart) based release.

I would much rather have 2 Vita PSN games over pretty much anything for PSP (other than the Rockstar stuff they won't give away free anyway).

I know this isn't a PSN deal, but since so many of y'all were talking about Men's Room Mayhem when it came out on Vita, I thought I'd let all the non-Vita owners that were interested in it (like me) know.

Anyway, Men's Room Mayhem is now free for iOS.

Somehow I resisted getting it on my vita so I guess I might as well give it a go on my iphone for free lol. Thanks for the heads up.

Of course I have not played it. I never said it would be a terrible mess. I said it was completely useless. The entire basis of the Batman games have been a deep single player experience. When you have a series that has sold 7.12 million copies for the first game, and 8.89 million copies for the second, you are just as likely to lose sales from fans who like the current formula than you are to gain new ones due to adding multiplayer.

With the move away from online passes, the possible gain in new game sales for multiplayer is no longer relevant. So what is the purpose of tacking on multiplayer to a single player franchise now unless you just want to spend more $ on development?

You make a good point. However, there is a purpose to adding multi-player even though there may no longer be online passes and even though it may not entice more purchases by having multiplayer. Multiplayer in this case is most likely designed to keep the game from being traded in too soon by attempting to create a longer term interest in playing and, more importantly, keeping the game for a longer period of time.

Personally, I am not against used game trade-ins and sales and I take advantage of both quite often, but I do understand and respect a developer and publisher for trying to entice players from doing it. At least they are doing it by creating a positive incentive with multiplayer rather than a penalty like an online pass (assuming there is no online pass).

All that being said, if you're going to include a feature in a game, it should be worthwhile and good. Otherwise it is a complete waste of time and money for both the consumer and the publisher/developer.

Been hearing this argument for years and still fail to understand it. How does an additional feature affect anything? If you don't like it, don't use it. "The entire basis of [UC2/3, TLoU, RDR, GTA, MGS, ME3] has been a deep single player experience", yet those have competent multiplayer, no? B..bu..but the resources could have been used to better the campaign! How the hell do you know that? Often an entirely different team works on the MP, and there's a good chance that the additional money and manpower was only intended for that purpose. Gah, it's like the people upset that consoles can do more than play games now. LOL, you view the broadening appeal of gaming as a crusade against tru gamrz™. Sad!

Thanks I might be in this boat with The Walking Dead. I recently upgraded my hard drive and wasn't seeing the episodes in my download list as I bought the full package after getting the freebies. I'll have to see.

I get your overall point and agree, but are you saying that UC2/3, TLoU, RDR, GTA, MGS, ME3 don't have competent multiplayer? I think you'll find some arguments from myself and others on that point for at least a couple of those games.

Just buy an Xbox and enjoy those great games they're giving their fans. I don't think you should renew your PS+ since all you do is complain. If your unhappy with the games go bitch at Sony I'm sure they'll give you a hug. I hope you only bought a 3 month PS+ sub cause this thread is going to get a lot of complaining.

Go play some games!

:fridge: You just got FRIDGED son!

any guesses on what free games were getting this month unless the list is all ready out. im hoping for nfs most wanted(like Europe is getting) or ps all stars

I know this isn't very cheap of me but I was planning on buying Payday: The Heist today but when i put it in my cart it gave me the "this game is free to PS+ members ..." spiel. It still said $19.99 in the cart but I wonder if this is an indicator of some of what's to come in August.

Payday 2 comes out Aug 13 so I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility for a PS+ title if they're trying to generate interest.

Of course I didn't buy the game, not if I can possibly get it free.

Can't wait for the ps blog for the PS+ update! I'd love to check out Payday, I hear it's a blast with friends.

What do you guys think would happen if they put a repeat on PS+, specifically a repeat since the IGC started?  Think it would cause a total catastrophic meltdown?  Or do you think response would be pretty tame or even vaguely positive?

Knowing the blog comment tendencies, I sadly vote option A (meltdown). I just got my first PS3 & joined Plus in January and there are a bunch of old freebies I'd love to see come back as freebies. But I don't expect it and do not blame them one bit. The irrational "gimme gimme gimmes" would metaphorically burn this mutha down if that happened.

irrational "gimme gimme gimmes" - That would be me haha.

Not really, I certainly wouldn't be happy with repeats since I already have them all, but I don't think I'd be rage-inducingly angry or anything.

Jet Set Radio was a repeat?

Different systems so I give it a pass. Especially since the Vita install base is still rather small so the vast majority of PS+ members who only own a PS3 still got a new game. However I should read the comments that week and see how many people were pissed off.

This.

I've seen this argument made many times over, and even found myself on the other side at one point. However, recent examples dispel this theory, especially when you look at games like Uncharted 2, Mass Effect 3 and AC: Brotherhood. U2 & ACB are widely regarded as the pinnacle of each of their respected series, and people whined about how the addition of MP was going to ruin their beloved SP campaigns. But you know what? Not only did the MP in each of those games actually turn out to be quite good, but their Campaigns were better than ever before! And while a lot of people complained about the ending to ME3, the gameplay was not the main focal point to any of the complaints and the actual game itself was not locking in any way, shape or form b/c of some "tacked on" MP.

Besides, Mr. fuss is right on this one, most games receive EXTRA funding and resources when they decide MP - so as not to detract from what made the games great to begin with. Let's just wait and see what happens and how it turns out before we start casting stones on the matter.

It kinda was. It was a freebie for the Vita a few months ago, and then it was a freebie for the PS3 a couple weeks back.

I knew I wasn't crazy! When I was downloading the game I thought to myself "I thought we already got this game." I don't own a Vita so I download all the games but don't really pay attention since I can't play them. I'm waiting for them to be super cheap to buy one, especially since my friend is lending me his. :)

What do you guys think would happen if they put a repeat on PS+, specifically a repeat since the IGC started? Think it would cause a total catastrophic meltdown? Or do you think response would be pretty tame or even vaguely positive?
I would support repeats to the IGC but I am a very recent PS+ adopter so I'm biased. Maybe it could work if they offered one or two additional games per month but, in all honesty, do we really need more games we barely have time to play to add on to our ever growing backlogs?

no repeats, please. i mean, c'mon, new games only. it's not like people can't buy games that have already been on ps+... so basically it just jams up the works. people would freak, and rightly so, since it only 'punishes' the long-term customer. won't happen, as a result, hopefully.

now if they did a 'welcome to ps+' package that gave half a dozen or so older ps+ to all members they might be able to get away with it, since it wouldn't affect monthly releases.

Sad!
to be fair, all games have limited resources. so it's true that if a game is budgeted for X, any money/manpower spent towards teams focused on MP is either taken away from the budget that could have been given to the SP, or, if that was going to have the same funding either way, could have been given to the budget of another game. Point is, that money came from -somewhere- and could have been spent on something else. So when that money goes to a crappy MP experience, fans get upset (often, but not always, rightfully so).

Now, I think the issue is mainly with games that shoe horn in MP. That happened a lot when MP first became popular. It still happens to this day.

But we also get gems like TLOU, which imo is the best MP of the gen barring maybe BF. So there's that. And with a game with the budget of TLOU, it didn't take away from the SP at all. But it could be argued many B grade FPS games could have had their resources better spent on improving SP.

I feel the same way in reverse, actually. Games that are primarily MP based need not try to make some SP storyline.

I think the point breakfuss and others, including myself, are tying to make, is that single player campaigns rarely suffer from the addition of multiplayer. All the games breakfuss listed have amazing SP and MP in most people's opinions. Take a game like Bioshock 2. The MP is vastly considered to be garbage, but the game still has an 88 on Metacritic because it's SP was very well received. In my opinion, this game was the perfect example of jumping in on the MP bandwagon. The MP was developed by an entirely different team, had ZERO effect on the SP, and the results speak for themselves. Show me one game where there is concrete evidence that the addition of MP means the SP suffered or was lacking.

Bioshock 2 MP garbage? I really enjoyed the MP, a lot more in fact than many more widely praised MP games I've tried. I guess to each their own, the only problem I had with it was the lack of players since I came in late. Not really adding anything to the conversation I guess, just wanted to throw it out there. A better example I would say is Tomb Raider, which I really haven't heard anything but great things SP side, and the reverse for the multiplayer.

I agree with the points being made, but I loved the MP on BioShock :twoguns:

I'm sorry I should have clarified a little better. I also loved the MP in Bioshock 2. But I had this debate in this thread when it was offered for free and was to by a few people I was an idiot for that opinion. That being said, a lot of reviews and people who play the game didn't like the multiplayer, so I think we're probably in the minority.
