Did Atelier Totori ever get a physical release? I dont think it did. Im assuming if not at this point then there wont be one coming right? I really hate digital copies of stuff only but am wondering if its worth getting at $20. Im in no rush if theres a chance of it going lower. Any chance of it hitting <$15 at some point?

the main thing was a physical copy option though. I dont really see one. Other than the JP version
It did on PS3, Atelier Totori Plus only got a digital release. Japan got a physical release of Totori and is getting one of Meruru Plus as well and while it hasn't been confirmed most seem to expect Meruru to be digital only when it comes out here.

Thanks for typing all that. It was genuine inquiry: I want the game against my better judgment and was looking for peer pressure. I'm reluctant to sink $20 on it because even niche games go onto become megahits like Persona or Harvest Moon, which was just an SNES game and PS1/N64 game for a long time and now releases more or less every year.

Bought TMK, for $3.75 I couldn't say no.

Now, I can't decide if I want NGS2+ or SS. I played the absolute crap out of NG2 on 360 and am a huge NG fan, but the framerate drops scare me considering how precise MNM is. That and I wasn't a huge fan of NGS2 for PS3.

OK, was one of those situations where I couldn't quite tell because it's the internet. Like I said I've never played the series myself but think that there's enough intriguing here to give it a go even though it's over my ideal price point. Mainly because I have a feeling that I'll end up kicking myself over it if it doesn't go on sale again for the next year plus. There is still a lot of the standard JRPG stuff from what I've been watching and reading and sounds fairly accessible to newcomers which is something often lacking in the niche RPG stuff. That's my take at least.

eternal mode!?! how do i get that? the menu to the game is a mess. the time limit can be quite annoying, i'd love to have it be more of a playground. (i actually wish it was always untimed, just gave you a ranking, rather than just ending at 3 or 5 minutes.
<--talk with Mode Clerk(Green Monster)

I havent played much of NG2 on either 360 or Vita but I did just buy Soul Sacrifice. So far I am liking it, but the way the story is set up is kind of confusing so far. Also from what I have played has been basically just story sequences split up by arena battles against different types of enemies where you pick what magic you will use for the battle beforehand, this wont appeal to everyone but I am enjoying it so far. I know there is a demo so its probably worth trying.

The controls worry me a bit though. I think I pulled off a turbo once and if that's something you have to use to get high scores or trophies that's no good. Still, it's only $4 I guess but at the same time I think I'm leaning more towards picking up Atelier than I was earlier in the week and don't want to go crazy on the PSN spending right now.
i beat all levels with no turbo. =)

I just made the executive decision not to buy Atelier Totori Plus and saved myself $20 and more importantly 60-80 hours of backlog.

I think I'm going to skip this sale entirely and wait for price drops to the carts of Muramasa and Soul Sacrifice.

Damn, I love self-control.

I bought it myself I know digital releases non steam rarely ever go on resale (unless it's something from Atlus as they do it a bunch or some games that seem to be eternally on sale). I have Totori for the PS3 but I will support this. This is true since Meruru will be coming out soon and I will buy it when it likely goes 20 too! On another note may get Muramasa for 20ish but that one has a physical cart and I may wait for that.

Yeah, I'm similar to you, Muramasa is very tempting but $20 is just too much for me for the digital version.

I think I will grab Katamari for $3.75 though, and probably Little King's Story too next week.

Real gamers throw self control out the window.

for those that need more info on Atelier Totori Plus... i haven't played it yet but I did put maybe 10 hours into Atelier Rorona on PS3.   I ended up selling it because i wasn't into it on the big screen, but enjoyed it enough that i picked up Totori in a heartbeat.

my memory isn't the best, but here's the basic gameplay:

You've got your town/school that serves as a central hub.  You get missions to make new things (crafting/alchemy).   You go to various areas and dungeons and kill stuff for lewt - the most important loot being ingredients.   Combat is fairly standard jrpg fare, and different monsters drop different ingredients, and in some cases iirc you need to do special things to get rarer loot (I can't remember if it's a steal command, or what).   You then bring your lewt back to the hub, and there is a massive crafting system in place that is, in some ways, more 'the actual game' than dungeon crawling/lewting was.  Oh, and the material/ingredient/creation system is impressively deep and complex.  You can use the items you create in combat, thus getting to more difficult areas and getting better lewt, and also use items you create as ingredients.

i don't know much about the story (surprise) but it overall has a very light and airy vibe.  It's more cutesy than dark and grim (like, say, Digital Devil Saga).  I don't know if it has a deep plot or even any plot.

I enjoyed Rorona enough to drop $20 on a handheld Totori in an instant since i'd much prefer it on a vita; it's a digital only release and my guess is it's unlikely to hit that price again anytime soon... maybe a sale before the next one drops, and obviously in a few years the price will be down.  but for now, i think that $20 is a buy price if you want the game.

if someone could explain Muramasa to me, i'd love it.  i've watched some short gameplay vids and it looks like it's just a brawler, but i have to assume it's deeper than that?

There are two story paths, a male character and female character. This is from my gameplay experience from having played through the male character's path.

Basically you have the ability to hold 3 different swords, which as you are fighting and deflect enemy attacks and so forth it takes away their lifebar (or whatever it's called ingame) until it breaks where it mostly becomes useless until you switch swords as while a sword is sheathed it regenerates its life meter. There are mechanics of switching swords into doing a special attack when the others are glowing, and different swords have a different kind of "magic attack" type and each has different attributes. There is a long sword and short sword and using each plays a little differently. I found myself constantly being able to craft new swords (which you can do on the fly as long as you have the souls from fallen enemies and spirit from eating food via cooking or from a vendor) which I thought was cool and I found that I could take the +strength from one sword to be able to meet requirements for another sword that I didn't have the base stats for so I liked trying to see what I could get away with as far as combinations go.

You will be backtracking a ton across screens, it would probably be a short game if it wasn't for all the backtracking. The vita screen makes the backgrounds look great but it feels annoying especially when the game unlocks fast travel for you after you have completed the story. There are also I believe they are called caves of evil that are like little challenge areas you are able to access after so much progression in the story for each of the types of them.

That's my take on it at least from one story playthrough, not really mentioning the story itself.

thanks for the rundown on muramasa -- i'm really on the fence about both it and dragon's crown because i bought both Odin Sphere and Grim Grimoire for the ps2 a couple years back and wasn't in love with either of them.   but i hear good things about both... but something tells me they just aren't my genre.

In short, Muramasa is kind of a Metroidvania-style game with Vanillaware's style of brawer combat with the unique sword mechanic mentioned above. I didn't play a ton of the Wii version, so I don't recall how much ability gating it had, if any.

When I pre-ordered on Amazon with free shipping it said i'd get it Thursday the 22nd. Is that legit or will it still ship out and be here on release?

How long will Soul Sacrifice be on sale for PS + members?

Also if I buy the game for 17$ will I have to buy the online pass for 9.99$
Monday's the last full day and online pass is only a factor for retail. Digital is equivalent to a new copy.

Assuming Monday, but it could last longer, since Max Payne 3 has been on sale longer.

No, you will not have to pay for the online pass if you buy digital.

im a little mixed up on the walking dead game for vita....is it a port of the walking dead game that came out a year and a half ago on PS3?

is walking dead 400 days a direct sequel to the above walking dead game?

Yes.

400 Days is a 6th episode that bridges seasons 1 and 2.

I just found out you can connect to your computer on your Vita through Wi-Fi, sweeet.  I'm gonna try the custom soundtrack feature for the first time while I farm in Ragnarok Odyssey.

*edit* Damn, I thought custom soundtracks was for every game, turns out that's not the case.

For those in need of funds: Best Buy has $20 PSN cards for $18.50 (Reward Zone account needed). You can save a measly $0.50 when buying a $10 card as well. link

PS: a shitty situation I ran into was not being able to use a Reward Zone gift card to pay because it was larger in value than the card. I got this $100 RZ certificate burning a hole in my pocket @_@

i'm pretty sure you can get 50s for 45, too. must be in your cart. free shipping. i bought one to cover the indies i want coming out this month and next, then this sale hit... so i bought another. both of these purchases were budget breakers, so i'm currently starving myself for the next 3 weeks.

If you ask real nice you can generally get customer service to break that cert into smaller chunks without much hassle.

Sigh, just used my credit yesterday to buy a $50 Amazon card since the PSN credit wasn't on sale. Knew I should have waited.

It's actually been on sale for awhile. Price only shows in cart and not in store.
Bah, didn't realize since everyone kept saying there weren't any deals on PSN credit to go with this Vita game sale. Too bad Kindle cards probably can't be returned even if they're not scratched off yet. Oh well, guess I'll just have to eat the $5.

Bit.Trip Runner 2 is still free today for PS+?

It says free on my SEN page https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/en-us/games/bittrip-presents-runner2-future-legend-of-rhythm-alien/cid=UP1024-NPUB30733_00-RUNNNER2FULLGAME but is showing up 14.99 in my cart.

Weird. How long is it supposed to stay free so I know I can wait for Sony to fix it.
It will be free at least until the first Tuesday in September since they've announced what's leaving Plus through the end of the month.

So strange...it correctly came up as free when I bought it through the store on the PS3 but would have been charged 14.99 if I got it on the PC SEN store. Never had that happen before; it seemed to not recognize that I had PS+ on the website (even though it clearly showed the yellow + sign.

Well, I solved it but don't know why it happened.

Thanks, I may give it a go. I was planning to put the full $100 towards a PS4 preorder, but I don't think they have non-bundle preorders available. Plus yknow, first batch of new console syndrome ;)

Oooo, cool, gonna have to give that a try. I just finally snagged a Vita, now to download some Vita titles, PS+ should have even more value now, yea!

Which one?

Soul Sac or Ninja Gaiden Sig 2?

Heard there was problems with NG and Soul is only good if you have friends; which i do not :(

(or should i just buy P4G physical copy since it's no longer on sale)

I haven't been in the thread for quite a while, just wanted to say I really like the letter/color system in the OP for new/expiring/drops, etc. now. Could never make heads or tails when sorting through it for before some reason. Nice!

SS is at its best with friends and the solo can be a bit repetitive, but I'd say its still a better solo experience than NGS2.

I agree with you on all of those counts, although one nice thing if you do choose to do SS solo is that it reduces the hp on the bosses. It would have been nice if they had a feature on the online so you could see the levels of the people in a room before you chose to enter to make it a little easier to find people around your level

Also with the whole friends thing you can give someone small size offerings without losing them yourself using Near which is kind of cool I suppose
