:ps4: Foul Play - $2.00 to $100.00 [customspoiler='Fine Print'] :ps4: Foul Play is a part of the PlayStation Heroes program, which means that you can pay your choice among a variety of price points for an item that is usually a theme for entries into a contest to win some prize with most of the money going to a charity. There are no details at the moment for what the prize for buying Foul Play offers, so I'll post that whenever it's announced.

Edit: From the PlayStation Heroes app on PS4, the Foul Play promotion is for a trip to PlayStation Experience in December. Once you purchase the game, you're supposed to go here to register for the actual contest, though you should wait until the page is updated for the PlayStation Experience promotion instead of whatever it's on at the moment.[/customspoiler]

I didn't like FF6 all that much. The extra access time slows down the game and (in my opinion) it hasn't aged all that well. Enemies are mostly static and the members of your party have cheesy animation. I've been totally reamed on other sites for saying so, but I just don't think it's that great.

Looking to round out my shmup collection but I don't remember what all is on PSN. Here's the ones that I remember:

Astro Tripper

Gravity Crash

Gravity Crash Ultra

Super Stardust HD

Super Stardust Delta

Metal Slug

Metal Slug 2

Jetpack Joyride

Space Invaders Infinity Gene

Dead Nation

Dead Nation Apocalypse Edition

Mercenary Kings

Mamorukun Curse!

Gundemonium Recollection

Gundeadligne

1942

Soldner X/X2

Hitogata Happa

R-Type Dimensions

Under Defeat

Everyday Shooter

Galaga Legions DX

PixelJunk Shooter

PixelJunk Shooter 2

PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate

PixelJunk Sidescroller

Sine Mora

LUFTRAUSERS

Red Faction Battlegrounds

Velocity Ultra

Microbot

Ghostbusters Sanctum of Slime

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions

Shoot Many Robots

Shock Troopers

THEXDER NEO

Zombie Apocalypse

What am I missing here? I'll edit to alphabetize it in a little bit.

I started playing Citizen of Earth.  I know it's been compared to Earthbound but lets not mince words here, if I didn't know better I would have thought it was a spin-off.  If you like Earthbound you should probably buy it while it's on sale.

Just off the top of my head: Gradius Collection (PSP/Vita), Strikers 1945 Plus Portable (PSP/Vita), Sonic Wings Special (PS1), Mobile Light Force [AKA Gunbird] (PS1), Neogeo Heroes (PSP/Vita), Cho Aniki (PS1), & Cho Aniki Zero (PSP/Vita).

Unfortunately R-type Delta has been taken down from PSN.

I think I'll still try it, sure I can get $5 worth from it.

I am just worries it'll be like FFIII DS for me. I don't know I'd if triggered a glitch or what but the final boss was destroying me. I was leveled high enough that the random encounters were super easy in the final castle, i was doing what online guides recommeded(with lowerblevek characters) but couldn't get past the first few rounds of stage two of that fight. Ended up trading it and watching the end on YouTube.

U was already frustrates because I kept starting over as soon as I died the first time, and I think that was the game where you were supposed to.

Well, I never buy retail games on PSN, just digital only so there isn't a lot of savings for me. But $2 off Resident Evil Remake is perfectly fine with me. I was busy playing Wii U during Christmas anyways.
Don't waste your money. I got RE: Remake and feel I got hosed. The PS4 download is only like 3 gigs. but reading the description I thought it was going to be a lot bigger. The textures clearly weren't improved and for that I am disappointed. I doubt it's even an uncompressed build. Ugh.

The weird thing is that the PS3 version is like 8 gigs. Either PS4 downloaded so much to play and finished or not. I'm thinking the latter.

So they put as much effort into it as they did with RE4 HD and Code Veronica X, seems about right.

Does it at least have a platinum trophy?

There's some free content for Hustle Kings but the descriptions are a bit confusing. The Vita versions say they are additional tables but the PS3 versions are coded as Maps with multiplayer and social functions. If you buy the PS3 listing you get the Vita version and vice versa. Did anyone get these and can clarify?
They're just tables. The PS3 page just lists feature of the game itself, which might be for people that randomly find the DLC and don't know about the game.

Demos and Betas
Life is Strange (Episode 1) — PS4, PS3 Trial

I've got Tokyo Jungle in one of these "Best of PSN" compilation discs and, bought the DLC off PSN. If I bought the game again (because it NEEDS the disc to be in the PS3), would I still have the DLC when I play the downloadable version?

With your definition of shmup:

In Space We Brawl

Nano Assault Neo X
I knew I was forgetting about some. I've never heard of those two I'm adding them to my watch list for sure. The rest I already either knew about or have but managed to forget about which annoys me because there are some of the best in there like Beat Hazard. Still kicking myself for not buying Crimsonland but if it's been on sale twice it'll happen again. I think I've got enough to fill my cart with can't miss content. Thanks for the assist Frisky!

No one should be questioning Shadow Warrior for a measly $6 (or $5.40 with 10% discount), its a fantastic old-school FPS with great humor, super colorful, beautiful levels, and great weapons and gameplay.  I already had it on disc, but bought the digital so I don't have to swap the disc, and yes I'll keep the disc as well.  Fantastic game, well worth full price, much less a measly $6!!

Went ahead and bought Costume Quest 2 (PS4, doesn't appear cross buy...), Lumines Supernova cause F yea!!, Gundemonium Collection, Castle Shikigami 2, Rollers of the Realm, The Last Guy, #KILLALLZOMBIES, and Futuridium with the bonus discount and saved almost $5. Not bad. I assume it's been confirmed it really only works once?

I didn't want to fall into the trap of buying things I don't really need just 'cause I wanna use the coupon. But eh, the urge to purchase is strong. I was thinking of Front Mission 3 since I never did beat it. Anything I should know about it on vita?

I bought it during the flash sale it was a part of and haven't played it in a while but thought it was a lot of fun still. Runs fine on the Vita, downloadable directly, kind of fugly (like most poly games of that age) but that doesn't stop it from being enjoyable.

Do you remember how much was it during the flash sale? Is $3 usually as low as it gets? Thanks.

trying and deleting a lot of plus games that are good but in genre'ss I don't care about. (Machinarium and hungry horde, for example)

(Making room for new stuff)

I went ahead and used my code to get the following for $80.90 after discount:

Arcade Hits: Shienryu
Castle Shikigami 2
Cho Aniki
Gundemonium Collection
House of the Dead 3
House of the Dead 4
Money Idol Exchanger
R-Type Dimensions
Suikoden II
Vanguard Bandits

I probably would have spent more but the PSN wallet wouldn't let me load more credit past a certain point. Still, I'm pretty happy since a lot of those are imports that I've been wanting to play.

Never ever heard of Costume Quest 2 until this PSN Flash Sale, it looks interesting (Thanks Frisky for the videos). Do I need to play the first to understand/enjoy the second even more? I see its at a regular price of $14.99. That's a little more than I'd like to spend on it however. Any advice is appreciated.

No. You should be just fine without having played the first game, though if you like it, you can obviously get the first when it's on sale next.

I've been wanting to play it for years. Are the problems game breaking. I don't want to play the ios version. But I don't know of any other options for it. I don't have anything to play the gba version.

Edit :I just looked at the screen shots of the android version recently released and ... shit.
I played the snes port on the wii and liked it. The only bad things I've heard about the ps1 version are load times off the top of my head.

Hum I'm not sure if I should  get the Dynasty warriors Gundam reborn dlc set or wait for it to get a proper sale.... Even with 10% off it'd still be more expensive then I paid for the base game during the end of the year sale.

In my opinion the 'load time' issues on vita for the few ps1 games that have them are overstated. Yes, they are there. They do not make the games unplayable. Sure, if you have and use another system that has a better version, avoid. But if you really want to play Chrono Trigger or whatever on a vita, you'll be fine. Heck, people played the living daylights out of them on ps1 back in the day.

SHMUPS:

Well, you're using a really broad definition of shmup (I usually limit that to side and vertical scrollers, use other terms for the rest) but again, using your definition and going through Frisky's list (he caught the obvious ones I noticed you missed):

Cutting down this list to the ones you should get first:

My comments edited into Frisky's post because, well, that's the easiest way to do it.

With your definition of shmup:

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth -- goty 2014 for me

Blast Factor -- pretty good

Burn Zombie Burn -- good but terrible scoring/multiplier system that encourages a style of play I didn't like as much (kiting burning zombies to kill in huge numbers rather than just killing zombies)

Crimsonland -- perfectly tuned dual stick shooter. very highly recommended.

Gatling Gears -- fun

Hard Corps: Uprising -- contra revisited, iirc

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light -- these are really good coop, more adventure than the rest

Nano Assault Neo X -- this came over as a highly regarded wii u exclusive. waiting for a sale.

NovaStrike -- i -love- this game. you have a variety of weapons and need to take down very well defended islands. it's odd, because while it's a 'dual stick shooter' your dual stick weapon is super weak and more of a defensive weapon if an enemy plane is tailing you or flanking you; but in general, your actual useful/powerful weaponry is button based. This turned some people off. It's one of my favorite games on PSN. If you like the kind of shooter where you're taking on established bases (think islands covered in missile launchers, runways spawning enemies, turrets, etc) you'll likely love it too. I was ranked #1 for a long time because I used to play it all the time... I'm sure I've been dethroned by now but all that does is make me want to go back to it.

Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken - i hear only good things.

Super Stardust Portable -- while not quite the same thing, Super Stardust Delta (vita) is, in my opinion, the best version of SS. By reducing the weapon types from 3 to 2, it actually streamlines gameplay and makes it far more fun. Can't recommend it enough, it'll never leave my vita. (you may have this, since i'm talking about Delta on Vita, not portable)

TxK --- absolutely terrific. Tempest reincarnate.

Velocity -- pure in your face adrenaline , this and 2x are carefully crafted for speed running perfection

Don't miss Crimsonland next time.

OK I need some input.  I have 10 items in my PSN cart right now for $37.68 (after discount) and I have $37.62 in my account currently... :wall:

Maybe there's something I can drop in here?  Maybe I should just suck it up and add $5+ to cover the 6 cents?

Definitely getting:

Legend of Mana

Shadow Warrior

OlliOlli

Probables:

Rollers of the Realm

The 3rd Birthday

Costume Quest 2

echochrome PS3

echochrome PSP

Less sure about:

Futuridium

When Vikings Attack

Any thoughts?  Has anyone played Futuridium?  Seems like it could be neat but had never heard of it.

I've been debating both Echo's myself. You think its worth it for the different content?

I really don't know and that seems like the most likely place if I cut. Never played echochrome but it was one of those games that I wanted way back when I only had a 360. The PS3 version I'm sure is superior in every way but I'm way more likely to play the PSP one which is my dilemma.

I don't understand the dilemma, honestly. It's not like you won't use the almost $5 that gets added to your wallet. Probably within a few weeks.

I know but it's still so stupid that it's holding me back! That and I'm still torn over echochrome versions and Futuridium.

What bothers me is that each version of echo has its own exclusive puzzles. I just want one version with them all.

Suck it up and add the funds, what's a couple more games on top of the 500 or so you already have?

Echochrome is one I'd rather play on a handheld, still having a tough time pulling the trigger on this one myself.

Futuridium... Wait for $3.00 or less or hold off until PS+.

Yeah, the PSP version was like that originally in JP.

Hmm, yeah I've been wathcing some more videos and I think I might pass for now. It looks neat but I could also see it being a complete miss for me.

From what I gathered, in Japan the PSP one contained all of the PS3 puzzles plus its own set. It also cost more.

Here the PS3 and PSP versions simply took all of the puzzles and split them down the middle. I'd rather have the Japan treatment.

So about to make my first non Plus purchases since i still have my launch $10 code in my psn wallet and the 10% coupon. Im for sure probably getting Shadow Warriors but which 2nd game from the flash sale is the best to get for PS4? beside for games that been free either on plus or XBLA. Im thinking of Costume Quest 2 perhaps?

Way to tell us what you like.

From the flash sale (assuming you have the stuff that was PS+) I would say Guacamelee, CQ2, OlliOlli, and Rollers of the Realm are probably the gems that aren't ancient.

Are they still releasing PS2 games digitally on PSN? I remember reading back in 2012 when the ESRB rated Haunting Ground (lending speculation that it was coming to PSN), but it never came out. I'd hate to shell out $60 to get the game on eBay when it shows up on PSN down the road for $10.

Played LocoRoco and Resistance Retribution on my PS TV to see how they hold up.

LocoRoco is still a joy as I forgot how infectious the music is. Seeing the individual LocoRoco singing to the music when you break them up is an awesome thing to watch.

Resistance Retribution still plays well with a DS4 by remapping the aiming controls to the right stick, though the game offers an auto-aim option whose aiming box covers a very large portion of the screen. There are option, both in and out-of-game, to turn that off if you want that sort of experience. My one issue after playing for a little bit is that it doesn't seem to save after checkpoints, so you can't quit and resume without playing more significant chunks of the game in a session.

I just noticed that there's three pool games in the flash sale.  Tempted on Hustle Kings or #KILLALLZOMBIES since I'm dropping Futuridium but I probably shouldn't.

Ok, put some time into Aqua Kitty DX.

Since we were just talking about shmups... this game, despite it's 'cat' like demeanor, is NO JOKE.

It's closest sibling is probably Resogun/Defender...  the map is circular, as in, if you keep going left, you'll circle around.   You need to protect 'miners' on the bottom of the ocean.    Lots of different enemies try to kill you, and a specific type of enemy tries to abduct your miner and will float to the surface with them unless you rescue them.

There are 2 modes --- 'easy/normal' let you practice each different level(there appear to be 25 different levels), with each level introducing new enemies, etc.   There also appear to be several boss levels included.

There is also arcade mode.   One life, and now you can get powerups to spend on weapon upgrades, more health, etc.   This currently remains hard as hell for me, though I'm sure with practice I'll eventually clear it.    You appear to only get one life... and if you die you need to start over (it's arcade mode, afterall).

Gameplay is fluid.  If you're a shmup fan, grab it at this price.
