:ps4: Foul Play - $2.00 to $100.00 [customspoiler='Fine Print'] :ps4: Foul Play is a part of the PlayStation Heroes program, which means that you can pay your choice among a variety of price points for an item that is usually a theme for entries into a contest to win some prize with most of the money going to a charity. There are no details at the moment for what the prize for buying Foul Play offers, so I'll post that whenever it's announced.

Edit: From the PlayStation Heroes app on PS4, the Foul Play promotion is for a trip to PlayStation Experience in December. Once you purchase the game, you're supposed to go here to register for the actual contest, though you should wait until the page is updated for the PlayStation Experience promotion instead of whatever it's on at the moment.[/customspoiler]

Darn, I was hoping the Konami deals would re-appear.

In the back of my mind, I was thinking there would be "I'm a Fighter, not A Lover" theme if Catherine wasn't on sale. And here it is. Bravo, Sony.

Thoughts on Mortal Kombat: Unchained?   Otherwise, nothing of interest for me here. If I had a PS4, I would have picked up Lara Craft and Knack.

Looks like Gang Wars (thanks for the recommendation posted earlier in the thread) is my only purchase this week.

Is there any difference between Rayman Legends on Vita and PS4? I don't plan on playing the game multiplayer which is why I'm thinking of getting it for the Vita.

MK: Unchained is Bush-era Mortal Kombat... that's when the series was at its worst in my opinion. I wouldn't bother unless fatalities are more important to you than anything else.

So I just bought a bunch of fighting games in this flash sale, and now if I go to the flash sale page it still shows the prices as if I hadn't. They are also not appearing in my download list. This happened before with Rock Band Blitz but the time I tried to resolve it with Sony live chat was absolutely disastrous. Anybody got any ideas?

I think the most significant difference at launch (some missing levels) got patched in shortly after release after enough people complained.

Need some opinions on:

Hyperdimension Neptunia ReBirth1 - Series intrigues me but I don't care for the creepy awkward stuff.

Tales of Xillia 2 - Disappointed in the price compared to what the previous Tales games were in flash sales, not sure if I should wait for it to go lower in a future flash sale when I haven't even touched the first game.

Hard Corps Uprising - I guess this is actually a sequel to a Contra game they wanted to spin off?  Is it worth the price?

Vandal Hearts Flames of Judgement - Like this kind of game but not sure if I'll ever bother with it.

That adds up to $40 in a hurry and I'm just not sure I want to drop that on those games.

That seems more like a way to make it easier to see everything that's on sale for PS+ people rather than mix it all up so that you have to parse the list to figure it all out. That's how they used to do it, though they also used to have redundant lists with PS+/PSN/MSRP prices and other with just PSN/MSRP prices. I don't really get the need for conspiracies.
What are you talking about, conspiracy? It's evident the last few weeks have not had the normal ps+ discounts. I totally agree with you it may or may not last, but noticing and commenting on their lack is perfectly normal.

You want stats, fine.

This doesn't include DLC/F2P type stuff. Counts are approximate, I counted quick using my eyes, might be off by a couple.

Day 1 discounts not included because that's not what is being discussed.

Update 2/10 --

0% of sale games had additional discount.

around 70 games on sale.

Update 2/3 --

0% of sale games had additional discount.

around 24 games on sale.

Update 1/27

0% of sale games had additional discount.

around 34 games on sale.

Update 1/20

1% of sale games had additional discount.

75+ games on sale. I think one old game had a ps+ discount (switch galaxy ultra).

AND THEN

Update 1/13

Well over 100 games on sale.

All but Dead Space 3, Knitt Underground, RIPD, Stick it to the Man, big sky infinity, boss, conception 2, indoor sports world, pure chess, and tabletop racing had ps plus discounts.

so... over 90% HAD discounts.

1/6 -- only dlc was for sale. no discount, but dlc not included in this so it's a wash.

12/23 -- estimating around 66% had additional discount.... 80+ games, lots of dlc mixed in. but most certainly had a discount.

12/16 -- ~66% (2/3s) had additional discount -- around 75 games on sale, around 48 had additional discount.

12/9 -- around 48 games. all but 7 had discount. so... call it 80%.

-------------------

Going back further, quick eyeballing tells me 60-90% of games usually have an additional discount.

The past 4 weeks had 0%.

That resulted in a column full of N/As. It's hardly a conspiracy theory to wonder if they got rid of the column that was making people freak out.

It's also quite normal for people to be concerned at this point. As recently as last week, I was on your side -- 'too soon to tell'. But to suggest people are crazy and acting like nothing is going on is silly. Clearly, there have been no additional ps+ discounts for a month, and people are going to be concerned.

You'd be crazy not to notice the last few weeks have been missing the normal ps+ discounts. Whether it's an anomaly or the new standard is still up in the air, but c'mon, calling it a conspiracy theory for pointing out they just got rid of the column for it is out of line.

It's too bad that 10% off code wasn't good for a few weeks. It looks like I'm up to $89 worth of content this week. Snagging all the SNK content I didn't already have for PS3 (looking at the bundle plus Baseball Stars 2, Metal Slug 2, Shock Troopers, King of Fighters '95 and '96, and World Heroes), the Jackbox Party Pack (Wasn't this just on sale recently though? Can't remember how much), Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R, and probably Monster Monpiece though I don't know why..

Also thinking it might be worth picking up the King of Fighters Collection and the NEOGEO Ultimate Shooting Collection. $10 a piece seems a bit high still though. I rarely buy PSP games anymore, especially digitally.

I was poking fun at the notion that the change in format on the PS Blog posts signaled that they had completely changed their policies for PS+ sales.

Fair enough. I wasn't worried for the first few weeks when people started freaking out over in sony blog land. This week was the first week I became concerned, because they changed the blog sale post to no longer have a column for PS+ discount (and thus getting rid of all the recent N/As which were demoralizing/upsetting people) and made PS+ discounts a separate section.

Is there any difference between Rayman Legends on Vita and PS4? I don't plan on playing the game multiplayer which is why I'm thinking of getting it for the Vita.
Legends was originally designed as a Wii U game and therefore is able to take advantage of the Vita's touch interface for some sequences.

Here's The Drop for this week:

New PlayStation Games This Week

Deadman’s Cross
Vita — Digital

Head out with your sniper rifle and an arsenal of other weapons to hunt down Deadmen. It’s always open season on the undead! Then prepare for card battles. The Boneyard is the site for The Deadman Duels — a popular television program that pits one zombie horde against another in a gruesome fight to the undeath. Join the excitement by going head-to-head with players from around the world, and climb the global ranks.

Dead or Alive 5 Last Round
PS4 — Digital, Retail

The final word in fighting entertainment. Two new playable characters join to make the largest roster in series history! Two fan- favorite stages make their triumphant return with updated graphics and gameplay. With new effects and skin shading technology, the hottest fighters in gaming look better than ever!

Hand of Fate
PS4 — Digital

Beyond the thirteen gates at the end of the world, the game of life and death is played. Draw your cards, play your hand, and discover your fate. Hand of Fate is a hybrid roguelike/action-RPG/deck builder, in which the player builds a set of cards into a deck, which is then used to deal out the dungeon floors through which they adventure.

The Order: 1886
PS4 — Digital, Retail (Available on 2/20)

The Order: 1886 introduces players to a unique vision of Victorian-Era London where Man uses advanced technology to battle a powerful and ancient foe. As Galahad, a member of an elite order of Knights, join a centuries-old war against a powerful threat that will determine the course of history forever in this intense third-person shooter, available exclusively on PS4.

Paparazzi
PS4 — Digital

Paparazzi is a two-player game of cat-and-mouse. The celebrity runs, dashes, and hides while the paparazzi tries to take constant photos of them. It’s a simple yet competitive arcade-action game! It’s a test of focus and reflexes and a silly take on celebrity culture.

Pillar
PS4 — Digital

Lost in an intimate snowy town, a palette of individuals are in search of a mysterious artifact said to bring great knowledge and understanding. Lead each character through their quest in this collection of mini-games, each with unique personalities and challenges… maybe their paths aren’t so different after all.

Q*Bert Rebooted
PS4, PS3, Vita — Digital (Three Way Cross Buy)

One of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful arcade games of the 1980s is back in its classic pixel perfect 2D form, and a re-imagined Rebooted version with state of the art 3D game play and graphics that remain faithful to the original concept. Both versions are exciting twitch games requiring keen puzzle solving skills and logic.

Treasures of Montezuma: Arena
PS3 — Digital

Fight to survive! Help Montezuma make his way through the dark catacombs of a sinister ziggurat. Master unique gameplay mechanics combining traditional “match-three” puzzles, turn-based battles, and role-playing elements. Use ancient artifacts and mighty totems to fight bloodthirsty creatures!

Trivial Pursuit Live!
PS4, PS3 — Digital

A modern twist on the world’s most well-known trivia game. Trivia has never been so much fun. A more modern look, new reinvented question types, and the world’s best questions from the world’s top trivia authority.

Demos and Betas
Pillar — PS4 Demo

I was kinda hoping Suikoden II would be the start of classics being released on PSN atleast semi-regularly again but looks like they are still forgotten about. After all this time there still less than 100 PS2 titles on the store, pretty disappointing. (might be just over if counting HD collections)

Can't wait to see reviews of the Order next week....it just looks so average....
I think it's going to go one of two ways. Route A has it going through mediocre valley where it wasn't able to fix the problems that got it delayed and it's full of issues and bland game play. Route B has it going over spectacular pass where while it doesn't do much unique it takes it's borrowed game play and design and creates a tight experience within a unique setting. I'm hoping it's B but expecting A.

I might bite on The Order despite what reviews say one way or the other. Dying for a good single player game and to me, the game looks really good as I really enjoy third person action adventure type games. My plus subscription runs out this week and I don't really have anything to renew it for at the moment as I play Diablo single player and I can still play online on my Vita. If The Order ends up being good, I'll not be needing Plus for awhile unless March has great games available then everything gets thrown out the window.

That adds up to $40 in a hurry and I'm just not sure I want to drop that on those games.
neptunia is a grindy series with boring as hell dialog and combat. I wouldn't rec it tbh.

xillia 2 probably wont go any lower but you could of just bought it physical when it was 20. I mean sure its possible a random flash sale could have it cheaper like when tos was 2$ but I doubt it. The last decent digital sale they had was for the graces f and xillia bundle for 15.

Personally I would just skip the first game since that way you'll not experience burn out playing the second and the content wont feel recycled.

I would suggest the exact opposite. After playing the first one you get emotionally attached to the characters and it feels so nice to see their return and their growth in the second series.

Early impressions of the full game I've read from players makes it sound like quite an impressive achievement. I was planning on skipping it but am now considering pulling the trigger.

I was poking fun at the notion that the change in format on the PS Blog posts signaled that they had completely changed their policies for PS+ sales.
I guess? I think the fact they got rid of the column that people were freaking out about is more damning than a couple weeks without additional discounts. That column looked great when there were tons of discounts, and looks terrible without.

I wouldn't pay $60 for it yet, Affa. The game only has about 2 hours worth of gameplay, and 3 hours of movies that you can't skip. The entire game is around 5 hours, so I think the price on The Order will drop significantly and quickly. So many are going to be disappointed with this game and Sony. This is not a $60 game.

Supposedly it's supposed to take 8-12 hours which is still a bit short. I will wait for reviews but it looks like an amazing $25 game at the moment!

It's got 8-12 hours of gameplay from multiple sources. If you rush through everything, sure, it can be beat faster but I don't and I hate when game sites publish 'rush' times as fact.

I don't rush through my games, so I'm not particularly worried.

I really don't get why people want and hope the Order to fail so bad.
I don't want it to be bad but expect it to. Which of these early gen games that have been delayed came anywhere close to living up to expectations? The best have been middling and most have had issues. 15 months is a pretty hefty delay so maybe they had time to polish everything up but it was a series of smaller delays which is never a good sign.

I rarely believe review sites etc, I want video gameplay or a demo.

but..

The footage totals roughly five hours of playtime, including both gameplay and cutscenes. The time devoted to cutscenes appears to be roughly half of that playtime, and the cutscenes are reported to be unskippable.

The leak has arrived shortly after rumours circulated that the game was only three hours long, and after Ready At Dawn founder and CTO Andrea Pessino responded to a query that the game was less than five hours long by stating that was "not true". Pessino later tweeted that he would no longer comment on such questions.
I wan't going to get the game anyway, so this kind of stuff doesn't sway me one way or the other.

Guess we will find out in about a week.

Well I bought most of the PS1, PS2, PSP games from the flash sale (minus the few I owned).  So a big success for Sony separating me from more money.  My PS-TV will be flush with games I actually want to play on the tv that I cant play through my PS3 or the PS4.   I'm aware that I could buy the dock for my PSP-GO and use a Dual Shock 3 to play it as a console on my tv... but I like the idea of just going HDMI from the PS-TV.

I don't care about The Order.  Heck I don't care too much about new releases outside of the few series I'm seriously into.  So if it's a few hours or a dozen... it doesn't matter since by time I get it it'll be $5 to $10 and I'll actually be glad it's a short game as my game time is limited.

Damn...I played on easy and it took me longer than 7 hours. These people play too many video games.
I don't think they play to have fun and enjoy the experience just to get through it so they can write about it and get paid. I know I take a lot longer to finish most games because I fully want to enjoy the experience.

My thoughts exactly. The only games I'm considering purchasing on release day currently are Metal Gear Solid V and the new Silent Hill.

Persona 5. Saving up some lunch money to buy that on release day.
The only games I have pre-ordered for PS3 are Mortal Komabt X and MLB 15: The Show for PS3 and will get both on release day. I had gotten really crazy with pre-orders for a while a few years ago. I learned my lesson from that impulse and now only buy the games I really want to play. Most of the games I want are on sale frequently and/or drop in price quickly.

The only game I've bought brand new recently was WWE '13 while it was on clearance at Best Buy. Most of my recent game buying has been during PSN sales and picking used games from Gamestop and thrift stores. I'm in no rush to get a PS4 or XB1 as there is very little I would want to play on either system. I'll happily keep playing games on my PS3 (and PSP) for a while.

Edit: It suddenly came to mind that I had bought CoD: Ghosts new for $5 at Hastings during their BF sale last year. Thankfully that $5 before tax is all I paid because what little I played of it barely made it worth that much.

If The Order can be completed in under 5 hours I guess I know I'll actually be able to beat it and sell it right back to BB when the trade value first goes live.

I can't say enough about capcom vs snk and streetfighter alpha 2

Great games.  In alpha 2 you can go to the options and up the turbo super fast,    Worth every penny LOL

That geese is a hell of a fighter

It's better than KOF XII, that's for sure! There are some challenging play mechanics (cancels, mostly) but the tutorial will take you through them. I don't know if I'd choose it as my FIRST fighting game but there are worse places to start. Just be warned that the characters like to talk before the start of the match. A LOT.

man, I'm excited for Hand of Fate... looks like a game I'd be interested in!!  That, and Q-Bert!

The Order was never a launch game. It was only delayed a couple of months, not even close to 15.

The Order 1886 Full Playthrough 5hrs. long!!!

If this is true am thinking of cancelling my Pre-order :(

You can rush through any game if you want. It's a ridiculous metric, when most people will probably spend 10 hours on their first playthrough and then another 10 or whatever hours getting the plat.

People have beat TLOU in something like 4 hours too. Big deal. Most people put 15 hours or so into their first playthrough.

I haven't played the game, so for all I know it's short and terrible. But the actual impressions I've read have all been super positive. The whole 5 hour thing just sounds like people wanting the game to fail.

KOFXIII would have to be the worst place to start, only beaten by Blazblue. KOFXII on the other hand would be perfect for fighting game beginners with its manageable character roster, limited movesets, custom combo on impact, and no cheap boss - or any boss - to fight. It's the Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest of fighting games. You couldn't ask for a better intro to (2D) fighters.

I never felt emotionally attached except for my fists wanting to touch alvins face :whistle2:

Yeah everyone is so hung up that one you tuber speed ran the game to beat it in 5 hours that no one else is seeing that almost every else that has gotten the game has said it is very good game and giving it 9s and saying its about 10 hours.
